EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Electricity Act, 2003, paves way for an innovative approach to solve our country’s
power problems. It has paved the way for a competitive environment; open access to
existing transmission and distribution network to transmit electricity across regions; de-
licensing of generation, captive power and dedicative transmission lines; licensing of
distribution and supply companies and the restructuring of State Electricity Boards
In the above back ground, M/s. SAHANA CLOTHING COMPANY PRIVATE LIMITED
decided to set up a 5.0MW Solar Power Plant. This Detailed Project Report (DPR) brings out
all technical details and overall costs justifying the selection of the project. The total power
generation is envisaged to be 5MW from Solar Photovoltaic Cell. It is a very important
document that is required for Environmental Impact.
The company was formed with an objective to tackle the growing energy requirement of the
country in an ecologically sustainable manner. The company focus area is power generation
using renewable source such as solar energy.
The land is located in Tirupur District, Tamilnadu. It is intended to evacuate the renewable
power from the Solar Plant and inject into the 22 KV side of to 110/22 KV Power Substation
located at KILUVANKATTUR The Substation is located at 5km (air distance) from the land.
This report highlights the details of the proposed 5.0 MW Solar PV power generation
scheme, plant layout, site details, description of main plant equipment’s, evacuation of
generated power and operation & maintenance aspects in addition to project
implementation and schedule and financial aspects.
The project shall be designed to produce a peak of 5 MW of clean solar power and
associated renewable energy attributes. The power will be fed to the grid (TANGEDCO) for
The Solar PV power will be generated at 690V AC, and will be stepped up to 22 kV level and
connected to 22 kV bus of nearest substation. This will be done by installing necessary
towers, breakers, control and relay panels, VCBs, CTs and PTs to ensure protected and fail
safe operation of the beneficiary substation and the solar power plant.
The Grid Connected Solar PV power generation scheme will mainly consist of Solar PV
array, Power Conditioning Units (PCU) which convert DC to AC power, transformers and
associated switch gears (with metering and protection) for transforming the electrical energy
level to 22 kV.
The Solar PV power plant shall consist of a Solar PV array of 5.0 MW. It generates DC
power. The DC power is fed into Power Conditioning Units to convert DC power to AC
power. The output of the PCUs are connected through proper isolation and circuit breaking
arrangements to transformers with a total capacity of 5.0 MW to step up to 22 kV, 3 Ph AC
supply. The electrical power at 22 kV level is evacuated through appropriate transmission
arrangements to a 22 KV bus bar at KILUVANKATTUR substation and connected to the 22
kV grid. Synchronization arrangements effected through electronics provided in the PCUs
ensure adequate synchronization of the two sources of power supply namely, the grid power
and the solar power.
The following are the salient features of the power plant:
