Week 1 DAY 3

I. CURRICULUM CONTENT, STANDARDS, AND LESSON COMPETENCIES

A. Content The learners should have the knowledge and understanding of:
Standards ● translation, reflection and rotation with shapes.
B. Performance By the end of the quarter, the learners are able to:
Standards ● draw resulting images of shapes that undergo translation, reflection, rotation (MG).
C. Learning The learners will be able to:
Competencies ● draw resulting images of shapes that undergo translation, reflection, rotation.

IV. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURES

Before/Pre-Lesson Proper

Activating Prior
Knowledge Good morning/afternoon, class! How are you today?

(4 minutes) Are you excited about learning new things in our National Mathematics Program? Wow! It’s good to hear that
everybody is excited about our new lesson for today.

2024-LS-G6-NMP-WEEK1-DAY3 1
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 6

But before we start our new lesson, we will have a short activity first. Please get your ruler and pencil to be used
in our activity. For those who don’t have rulers, you may use any object that could be used to draw a straight
line. Follow the instructions carefully when doing your work.

NOTES TO THE TEACHER: Provide each learner with an activity sheet. This activity reviews learners on the line of
symmetry.

2024-LS-G6-NMP-WEEK1-DAY3 2
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 6

Lesson Previously we talked about tessellations and created them. Today, we will draw shapes in three ways.
Purpose/Intention
First is by translation, second is by reflection, and third is by rotation. Are you familiar with them?
(1 minute)

Who among you can give the meaning of the following words?

translation rotation reflection

Translation moves a shape left, right, up, or down but does not turn. The translated shapes (or the
images) appear to be the same size as the original shape, indicating that they are congruent.

Lesson Language
Practice
(1 minute)

A reflection is a mirror image of the shape. An image will reflect through a line, known as the line of reflection.
In geometry, a reflection is known as a flip.

2024-LS-G6-NMP-WEEK1-DAY3 3
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 6

Rotation means the circular movement of an object around a center. It is possible to rotate different shapes by
an angle around the center point.

Note to the teacher: Show to learners the examples of translation, reflection and rotation. Guide the learners to arrive to the
meaning of the given words. You may provide additional examples.

During/Lesson Proper

This time class, identify if each picture that I will show you is a translation, a reflection or a rotation. Just
raise your hand if you want to give your answer. Are you ready?

NOTES TO THE TEACHER: Print these pictures to be used in class. See the attached sheet for printable materials.

Very good children. You did a great job! Now you already know what translation, reflection, and rotation
are. This time, you will draw them. Can you, do it?
I will show you how to draw a translation of a figure/shape. (Demonstrate to the learners how to draw it.)

Developing
Understanding of the
Key Idea/Stem

11 minutes

This is how you draw a rotation of a figure. (Demonstrate to the learners how to draw it.)

LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 6

And this is how you draw a reflection of a figure. (Demonstrate to the learners how to draw it.)

Who among you can draw the translation of this rectangle? The reflection of this oblong? The rotation of
this rectangle?
NOTES TO THE TEACHER: Demonstrate to the learners how to draw translation, rotation and reflection of a figure. Ask some
learners to also draw on the board. Provide shapes for selected learners to draw on the board for their practice.

This time work the activity with your seat mate.

2024-LS-G6-NMP-WEEK1-DAY3 6
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 6

I will give you activity sheets to work on. Follow the directions carefully. You can draw your answers on
the space provided.

Very good children! Do a high five with your partner and tell him/her, “You did a great job today!” Go!

NOTES TO THE TEACHER: Guide the learners on how to draw a translation, a reflection and a rotation of a
figure, and you may give more examples. Groupings will vary based on the seating arrangement in the room.
Provide each pair with one (1) activity sheet.

2024-LS-G6-NMP-WEEK1-DAY3 7
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 6

I will give you another activity sheet to answer.

Don’t forget to read the directions carefully
before you draw the figures.

After/Post-Lesson Proper

Very good class. You were able to draw the translation of a shape, the reflection of a shape and the rotation of a
shape, but before we proceed to our next activity, let’s have a brief refresher of terms that we used earlier. What do
we mean when we say translation? reflection? and rotation?

Expected answers:
Translation moves a shape left, right, up, or down but does not turn. The translated shapes (or the
Making image) appear to be the same size as the original shape, indicating that they are congruent.
Generalizations and
Abstractions

A reflection is a mirror image of the shape. An image will reflect through a line, known as the line of reflection.
1 minutes In geometry, a reflection is known as a flip.

Rotation means the circular movement of an object around a center. It is possible to rotate different shapes by
an angle around the center point.

Evaluating Learning
We will see if you have mastered how to draw a translation, a reflection, and a rotation of a figure. Please answer
the activity sheets that I will distribute to you. Draw your answers on the space provided. Don’t forget to follow the
5 minutes directions given before you answer.
