IV. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURES
Before/Pre-Lesson Proper
Teacher (T): Good day, class! How are you today? Are you ready for our lesson today?

Learners (L): Good day, teacher! Yes, we’re ready.

T: Welcome to today's lesson.

Before we start, let me ask you this: can anyone define an exterior angle?

L: Exterior angle is an angle formed outside the polygon when one side is extended.

T: Correct. Now, let's draw a polygon to visualize this concept better.

Activating Prior Who can draw it on the board? Draw a triangle DEF where side DF is extended to G.
Knowledge
(3 minutes) (Note to the teacher: The learner will draw the figure on the board.)

T: Good job! Who can identify the angles formed?

2
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 7

L: ∠EDF, ∠DEF, ∠EFD, and ∠EFG

T: Very good. What types of angles are ∠EDF, ∠DEF, and ∠EFD? How about ∠EFG?

L: ∠EDF, ∠DEF, and ∠EFD are interior angles and ∠EFG is an exterior angle.

T: Are there adjacent angles in the figure? What are those? Why?

L: Yes, teacher. ∠EFD and ∠EFG are the adjacent angles. Because they share a common side, which
is side EF, and a common vertex, which is F.

T: Correct. Do you think there is a relationship between m∠EFG and ∠EFD?

L: Yes teacher. They are supplementary angles.

T: If the two angles are supplementary, what is the total measure?

L: The total measure is 1800.

T: Exactly. So, we can say that there is a relationship between the exterior angle and the adjacent
interior angle in a polygon.

(Note to the teacher: Call a volunteer to ensure maximum engagement of learners.)

T: Since we already knew that there is a relationship between the exterior angle and the interior angles,
Lesson today we are going to deduce the relationship between the exterior angles and the adjacent interior
Purpose/Intention angles.

(Note to the teacher: This part, the teacher will introduce the objective of the lesson.)
Lesson Language T: To develop your interpersonal intelligence, let’s first do this exercise and find a common ground.
Practice
(2 minutes) Activity 1: Loop the Word!

Directions: Look at and loop the words you found in the table below.

(Note to the teacher: The teacher should give cues to the learners in order for them to easily
identify and spot the terms.)

T: Were you able to spot the following terms above?

1. DEDUCE - to reach an answer or a decision by thinking or solving carefully about the known facts.
2. RELATIONSHIP - to a connection or association between two or more objects, often involving
numbers, variables, or sets.
3. EXTEND - to add to something in order to make it bigger or longer.
4. ADJACENT ANGLE - Two angles that have a common side and a common vertex, and don't
overlap.
5. SUPPLEMENTARY - things are added to something in order to improve it.

L: Yes teacher.
T: Very good. You are now familiar with the words we are going to use in our lesson.

Expected answer:

(Note to the teacher: The teacher will prepare a worksheet for this activity.)

T: Look at the figure below.

Given triangle ABC, BC is extended to D. The m∠ACB is 300 and the m∠ACD is 1500.

Idea/Stem
(3 minutes)

T: What are the adjacent angles in the figure? What is the total measure of their angles?

5
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 7

L: The adjacent angles are ∠ACB and ∠ACD. The total measure is 1800.

T: I’ll give you an example. Refer the figure below.

Given triangle SAM, AM is extended to E. If the m∠AMS = 350, what is the m∠EMS? Why?

L: The m∠EMS = 1450. Because ∠AMS and ∠EMS are supplementary. If they are supplementary
angles, the sum is 1800.

T: Correct. This means if you know one of these angles, you can always find the other by subtracting
from 1800.

Solution:
Statement Reason

The adjacent angles are ∠AMS and ∠EMS. 1. Definition of adjacent angle

m∠AMS + m∠EMS = 1800 2. The sum of an interior angle adjacent to

the exterior angle is 1800. And by
definition of supplementary angles, the
sum of their measure is 1800.

350 + m∠EMS = 1800 3. Substitution Property of Equality (SPE).

350 + m∠EMS - 350 = 1800 - 350 4. Addition Property of Equality (APE)

6
LESSON SCRIPT IN MATHEMATICS 7

m∠EMS = 1450 5. Simplification.

or m∠EMS = 1800 - 350

m∠EMS = 1450

∴ the m∠EMS = 1450

(Note to the teacher: The teacher will show and discuss the solution to have a clarification
why they came up the result of 1450.)

(Note to the teacher: The teacher should prepare a PowerPoint Presentation or chart.)

T: Class, any clarification? If none, then, let’s do this activity titled “Let’s Infer”.

Activity 2: Let’s Infer!

Directions: Let’s divide the class into three (Red for intervention group, Yellow for consolidation
group, and Green for enhancement group). Choose a leader, a secretary, or a rapporteur to present
your output. This time, you are going to deduce the relationship between the exterior angle and the

Expected answer:

m∠ADB + 450 =1800

m∠ADB + 450 - 450 =1800 - 450 1) *m∠IJN + ∠IJK= 1800

Expected answer:

450 + m∠DAL - 450= 1800 - 450 m∠KJO + 1400 = 1800

m∠DAL = 1350 m∠KJO + 1400 - 1400 = 1800 -

1400 x = 1800 - 450
∴ The m∠ADB = 1350 and

2. m∠JKP is a right angle (900),
as indicated in the figure. Since
∠JKP and ∠JKL formed a linear
pair or supplementary angles,
meaning their measure sum up
to 1800.

Thus, ∠JKL = 900.

(Note to the teacher: The teacher should prepare a worksheet for this activity.)

T: To deepen our understanding let’s do this activity titled “Relate Me to Adjacent”.

Activity 3: Relate Me to My Adjacent(s)!

Directions: Consider the figure above. Given a quadrilateral where the four sides of the quadrilateral
are extended to create angles. Deduce the relationship between the exterior angle and the adjacent
interior angles.

Guide questions:
1) If the m∠1 = 600, what are the measures of its adjacent angles? m∠13?
2) If the m∠7 = 1050, what are the measure of its adjacent angles? m∠11?

(Note to the teacher: The teacher will call a volunteer(s) to solve it on the board. Let the
learners explain their work. And the teacher will continue calling the learner(s) until all the
problems are solved.)

(Note to the teacher: For number 1, let the learner(s) answer first either m∠5 or m∠9, then
m∠13. For number 2, let the learner(s) answer first either m∠3 or m∠15, then m∠11.)

(Note to the teacher: The teacher should prepare a worksheet for this activity.)

After/Post-Lesson Proper
T: To wrap it up about your understanding of our lesson, let me ask you these questions.
1. What do you notice about the measure of the exterior angle and the adjacent interior angle in a

Generalizations and
Abstractions
(1 minute) Expected answer:
L: The measure of an exterior angle and its adjacent interior angle in a polygon have a specific
relationship. They are supplementary, meaning the sum of their measure is 1800. This is because the

exterior angle is formed by extending one side of the polygon, and together with the adjacent interior
angle, they form a straight line.

your understanding. I will give you a short quiz. Ready?
