Rationale

This topic discusses about the real meaning of how the individual is in well – being not
just in physical aspect but includes intellectual, social, and spiritual aspects. It tackles
about ways on how to improve and maintain healthy as a whole human being.
Intended Learning Outcomes

Personal Health refers to the wellness of the individual. It is the ability to take charge of your health by
making conscious decisions to be healthy. It not only refers to the physical well-being of an individual but it
also comprises the wellness of emotional, intellect, social, economical, spiritual and other areas of life.

Health Education Services believes the optimal overall wellness in all aspects of life – emotional, intellectual,
social, spiritual, and physical is key to success in college and beyond.

a. Emotional Wellness – is a dimension that involves being fully in touch with feelings and emotions
regarding yourself and others. Having and maintaining a strong, healthy emotional aspect of personal
wellness can help cope with emotional challenges in life that often go hand – in- hand.

Ways To Improve or Maintain Mentally Healthy:

1. Be aware of your emotions and reactions.


2. Express your feelings in appropriate ways.
3. Think before you act.
4. Manage stress.
5. Strive for balance.
6. Connect with others.
7. Find purpose and meaning.
8. Take care of your physical health.
9. Stay positive.

Things to Consider:
People who have good emotional health can still have emotional problems or mental
illness. Mental illness often has a physical cause. This could be from a chemical imbalance
in the brain. Stress and problems with family, work, or school can trigger mental illness or
make it worse.

b. Intellectual – refers to the development of the mind as an instrument for decision


making as well as learning and interpreting experiences. It involves critical thinking,
curiosity, and creativity. The ability to be open to new experiences and ideas that
contribute to growth are characteristics associated with a healthy intellectual dimension.

Eight Simple Steps to Increase Your Intellectual Wellness:


1. Read for fun.
2. Debate an issue with a friend, but choose the viewpoint opposite the one you hold.
3. Improve your skills for studying and learning.
4. Learn a foreign language.
5. Play a game.
6. Play a musical instrument.
7. Write down your thoughts or journal frequently.

c. Social – refers to the idea of being able to develop meaningful interpersonal


relationships. It also involves being able to maneuver through various social situations while
appreciating the similarities and differences between people.

Ways on How to Improve Your Social Health:


1. Develop good communication skills.
 Maintain eye contact when talking to individuals.
 Be a good listener.
 Practice proper body language.
 Don’t respond right away, but take to develop a thoughtful response.

 Have a healthier heart and blood pressure when responding to stress.


 Improve endocrine and cardiovascular health.
 An enhance immune system.
b. Spiritual – revolves around the development of your own personal belief system and adherence to
that belief system. Seeking purpose and meaning in life, whatever your beliefs, while appreciating the
various religious perspective of other people is a key aspect of spiritual wellness.

1. Explore your personal values.
2. Start a Yoga practice.
3. Meditate
4. Increase Self – awareness.
5. Keep a journal.
6. Practice mindfulness.
7. Spend time in nature.
8. Digital detox.

11. Do a good deed.
12. Develop hobbies.
c. Physical – the most well-known category and it includes a personal attention to and maintenance of
overall health through nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and positive healthy habits to maintain a
healthy quality of life. It is the ability to take charge of your health by making conscious decisions to
be healthy.

1. Weigh yourself every day.
2. Snack on some veggies.
3. Take a walk at lunch time.
4. Turn off all electronics 30 minutes before bed.
5. Get a full eight hours of sleep.
