LESSON 1: KNOWING ONESELF

Self-Awareness
- how an individual understand his or her own
character.

How to develop Self-awareness?


 Identify your emotions
 Recognize your strengths and weaknesses
 Keeping a journal or diary
 Practice mindfulness

SELF-CONCEPT
- According to Carl Roger, it is one’s idea about
himself, particularly toward their unique
personality and own perception about their point
of views.

Two Categories
 IDEAL SELF - is the person that you would like
to be
 ACTUAL SELF - is who you really are

Strengths
- an activity that makes you feel strong or
something you are good at

Weakness
- an activity that you do not like doing or you find
hard to master

ADOLESCENCE
- transition between childhood and adulthood
 CHARACTERISTIC - is something about you
that sets you apart from others
 HABIT - is something you do on a regular
basis.
 EXPERIENCE - is something you have learned
from doing things before

LESSON 2: DEVELOPINGTHE WHOLE


PERSON
Human Development
- People change and grow throughout their
lives.

Physiological Development
- refers to the physical changes/physical
health.
 Build healthy eating habits
 Get some exercise every day
 Get plenty of rest
 Be open to your parents if you have
concerns about your physical development

Cognitive Development
- Characterized by a person’s ability to think
and reason out.

- According to Jean Piaget, complex thinking


includes being able to think in abstract terms and to
reason out based on well-established foundations.
 Engage in learning and studies
 Share ideas and thought with
 other people
 Participate in discussions on a
 wide range of subjects, issues, and
 current events
 Reflect on how you came up with
 answers or conclusions.

Emotional Development
- During adolescence, it is normal to
experience a wide range of emotions.
 Be humble and learn to
 apologize when you have
 done something wrong
 Assume responsibility for your
 actions
 Learn to manage stress.
 Practice gratitude.

Social Development
- Focuses on doing performing leadership
roles, and interacting with other people.
 Engage with others
 Develop your ability to
 pay attention
 Encourage others to
 talk about themselves
 Do not let fear hold
 you back

Spiritual Development
- Growing interest in life’s deeper meanings,
spirituality, faith, and religion.
 Explore your values
 Take time to meditate
 Practice self- awareness
 Strengthen connection with God

Holistic Development of a Person


- Your holistic development is important so that
you can handle the demands and challenges of
daily life with ease and strength.

THOUGHTS: are ideas or perception about things.
FEELINGS: are emotions.
BEHAVIORS: are the actions we exhibit.

- Conventional morality stage (where the moral
values acquired from society and role models
are adopted)

reasoning is based on individual rights, and
universal principles)

Developmental Task Theory
 Robert Havighurst
 Adolescents need to accomplish developmental
tasks to be happy and well-adjusted
individuals.
8 Developmental Tasks
 Achieve more mature relations with peers of
both sexes.
 Achieve social roles.
 Accept one’s physical aspect and treat your
body with respect.
 Achieve emotional independence from adults.
 Prepare for marriage or family life.
 Prepare for an occupation or a career.
 Acquire a set of values.
 Achieve socially responsible behavior.

Becoming a Responsible Individual


 Take your studies seriously and avoid
procrastination.
 Help your parents in whatever ways you
can.
 Try to help others if you can without
waiting for someone to order you.
 Maintain good and healthy relationships
with others
 Choose your friends wisely and don’t give
in to peer pressure.
 Develop your decision-making skills while
still heeding wisdom of the significant
adults in your life.
 Be mindful of your actions to avoid
negative consequences.
