Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of culture and society as
anthropological and sociological concepts; perspectives in/approaches to Introduction: FISH BOWL (Food for the Soul)
the study of culture and society (i.e., comparative, historical, structural –
functional, interpretive, and critical)

Performance Standard: Motivation: Compare and Contrast


The learners appreciates the value of the nature of culture and society from
the perspectives of anthropology; demonstrate a holistic understanding of
culture and society; values cultural heritage and express pride of place
without being ethnocentric. Instruction: Power Point Presentation, Discussions

 Fish Bowl Quotations

Before the lesson proper the teacher will allow the students to pick a quotation from the bowl. The
quotations are all about positivism that will uplift and motivate them for the upcoming week discussions.

Processing Questions:
How does it feel after reading the quotations that you got?
Is that quotations really mean to you? Why?

MOTIVATION (10 mins)

 Compare and Contrast
The students will compare and contrast the following pictures. These pictures will lead them to understand the concept of “Ethnocentrism and
Cultural Relativism”
Guide Questions:

1. What do you think is the picture all about?


2. How does it feel after seeing the pictures?
3. If you will see people eating the exotic food what will be your reactions?

 Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism


As mentioned by Dean Champion and his associates, “ the range of variations between culture is almost endless and yet at the same time cultures ensemble one
another in many important ways” Cultural variations refers to the differences in social behaviors that different cultures exhibit around the world.

 It is a perception that arises from the fact that cultures differ and each culture defines
Ethnocentrism reality differently
 Judging another culture solely by the values and standards of one’s own culture
Cultural  The attempt to judge behaviour according to its cultural context.
 The principle that an individual person’s beliefs and activities should be understood by
relativism others in terms of that individual’s own culture.

 Reflection Paper
By realizing their status and role in the society, teacher will allow the students to reflect on their achieved status -- “Their Dreams”. The students will
draw/cut=out a handprint. Inside the handprint, they will write their personal dreams and goals that they want to achieve that will contribute to the stability of
the society.
