14. Chlorine is prepared in the laboratory by treating manganese dioxide (MnO2) with
aqueous hydrochloric acid according to the reaction
15. A welding fuel gas contains carbon and hydrogen only. Burning a small sample of it
in oxygen gives 3.38 g carbon dioxide , 0.690 g of water and no other products. A
volume of 10.0 L (measured at STP) of this welding gas is found to weigh 11.6 g.
Calculate (i) empirical formula, (ii) molar mass of the gas, and (iii) molecular
formula.
16. Calculate amount of water formed when 16g of methane is burnt.
17. How many moles of methane are required to produce 22g CO2 after combustion.
18. 50.0kg of N2 and 10.0Kg of H2 are mixed to produce NH3 calculate 1. Ammonia
formed 2. Identify the Limiting reagent
19. A solution is prepared by adding 2g of a substance A to 18g of water . Calculate the
mass percent of the solute.
20. A sample of drinking water was found to be severely contaminated with chloroform,
CHCl3, supposed to be carcinogenic in nature. The level of contamination was 15
ppm (by mass).
(i) Express this in per cent by mass.
(ii) (ii) Determine the molality of chloroform in the water sample.
21. A vessel contains 1.6 g of dioxygen at STP (273.15 K, 1 atm pressure). The gas is now
transferred to another vessel at constant temperature, where pressure becomes
half of the original pressure. Calculate
(i) volume of the new vessel.
(ii) number of molecules of dioxygen
