B. INTRODUCTION

COVID-19 has brought about significant changes in how most of us go

about our daily lives, particularly in the realm of education, where
teachers devise techniques to guide students' learning through diverse
activities aligned with the new mode of learning. During the pandemic,
class observations are still a valuable approach to assess the quality of
interactions and support educators in their professional development
(Teachstone, 2020).
At its best, the evaluation process between teachers and
administrators should focus on the teacher's professional development
and the students' access to a high-quality learning environment. Many
schools are attempting to incorporate the necessary components of a
quality feedback loop, such as pre-conferences, observations, incremental
walkthroughs, and post-conferences, in order to achieve these lofty goals.
The entire development becomes a fundamental site for understanding,
sharing, and growth for all involved when the observation process is done
in a trusted and helpful manner (Rooney, 2017).
In this course, practice teacher will observe the lessons taught by a
teacher in the classroom for observing teacher-student interaction and
flow of the lesson in the class (synchronous mode of teaching). For
asynchronous mode of teaching, you can base your write ups on the flow
of the printed modules and the instructions given by the instructor. The
student teacher will keep a written record of classroom observation in
his/her professional portfolio. The trainee teacher will observe different
aspect/activities of school/classroom. It may include school observation,
teacher observation, student observation, observation in
library/laboratory/school assembly, school leadership, professional
climate, instructional practices, observing different types of records,
observation of physical resources, classroom environment/teaching aids
etc.

C.2. Field notes

classroom for observing teacher-student interaction and flow of the lesson in
the class (synchronous mode of teaching). For asynchronous mode of

The trainee teacher will record reflective notes about his/her
observation. Reflection involves paying attention and thinking about an
action/event.

• What had happened today?

This day was my first ever class discussion virtually via Google meet
with the BTEd IA 1 section A and B. During my first topic discussion
was all well, my students were very attentive and participative to
the activities I gave to them and I did not expect to be in that way.
• Why had it happened so?
It happened maybe because before I started my discussion I was
able to approach them in the way that should be as to the position
I’m currently with. Aside from that, I made and prepared activities
that are engaging and suit to their interest while having my class.
• What were my feelings during that experience/event?
At first, I was so nervous and anxious. I have a lot doubts in myself
before delivering my lesson but little did I know that I finish my
discussion without the feeling of being nervous and anxious.
• Why did I feel that way?
I felt that way for that was my first time. As a first timer, I admitted
that I am lack of information I am not knowledgeable enough to
handle things like that and I’m terrified if my response to that
particular matter would not address to what is needed.
• What were my thoughts during that experience/event?
During that time, I was full of what if’s, doubts, and things that keep
me dragging down.
• Why did I think that way?
Maybe because of the mixed emotions I’ve felt, low self-esteem,
and lack of confidence
• What can be done in future to avoid/improve it?
Do more in the fields related in teaching, think more ways about
how you are going to deal random situation, practice gaining
confidence. Trust in yourself and believed what you can do more.
Always do your best and don’t let your emotions drives you.
• What accomplishment did I want to achieve today?
The accomplishment I want to achieve is to satisfy my students out
from my discussion.
• What accomplishment did I want to achieve today but I could
not?
The accomplishment I want to achieve today but I could not is to
make a good and healthy relationship with the students due to the
new educational system in a way to build trust and respect each
other.
• What was the reason behind my failure to reach today’s goal?
What can be done in future to avoid this failure?
Lack of self-confidence. Lack of self-confidence could ruin any
opportunities. In order to avoid this failure in the future, get out
of your comfort zone, practice and gain some confidence,
express your thoughts and try to adapt essential things that
could help you grow.
• What did I set out to teach today? Was I able to accomplish your
goals?
I did just hope to have a smooth discussion and yes, I did it! For me,
I could say that I accomplished my goal today because I made
despite all of the things that bothers me and hinders me to keep
going and to do more to what is coming.
• What teaching materials did I use? How effective they were?
I used a powerpoint presentation the whole discussion and added
engaging activities for the students to participate and get their
attention. It is very effective because it result after my discussion
and I could see it by their outputs stipulated in the Google
classroom.
• What kind of teacher-student interaction occurred during the
class?
Synchronous interaction occurred during that the class as the class
was done via social media platforms with the use of internet
connection.
• How can it be made more effective in future?
It would be more effective in the future because of its conveniency.
Especially these days that we are now at the 21 st century learning.
We could proceed and process things online and it is a very friendly
in time and it could be very effective if we will all use social media
in a good way.
• Did I deliver my lesson smoothly today?
Confidently, yes!
• What problems did I face today during teaching? How it can be
solved?
Since the discussion was done virtually, the only problem I faced
was the internet connection as well as with my students too. To be
able to solve the problem, I was just very patient trying to cope all
things needed and have understanding to each other.
• Which parts of the lesson were more successful during teaching?
What was the reason behind its success?
For me, all parts of the lesson were successful during teaching. I
was able to deliver my lesson properly. The students responded to
the activities I gave to them where their learnings are being
measured and the outcome of their outputs says everything that I
played my part as well as the students too.
• Would I teach in the same way if I had to teach the topic again?
Maybe there are some ways that I’ll repeat but I’ll go to progress
and improvements. I’ll add more interesting examples and
situations in which the students could really understand the topic
very well. Make it more an engaging topic and interesting.
