What are your recommendations to improve the system of teaching and learning that we are
currently using?
Teacher #01 This is the new normal! I do not know if we will be able to go back to the previous way of life. If it
will happened, probably it will take a longer period of time. So, let just embrace this reality. Time
management, innovating teaching strategies, adapting to the changes brought by the new normal
trend in education, being flexible, providing alternative plans, being optimistic and patient, and
equipping oneself with the necessary skills are some of the ways on how teachers can cope with
the challenges we encounter today and improve the teaching-learning process under this new
normal in education. We always have to remember that the learners are the center of this
educational process. As educators, our primary concerns are for the benefits of our students more
than ourselves. " Even in this new normal, no child should be left behind."
Teacher #04 The school authorities shall implement a system in terms of delivery and retrieval of modules and
answer sheets to ensure that both parents and teachers are aware of what to do as well as to keep
everyone safe from the transmission of COVID-19. The conduct of webinars for equipping teachers
with the current trends of new normal education will help educators in adapting to the changes of
times.
Teacher #05 The educational sector was in a sudden change of mindset as the pandemic brought about great
impacts. It was a school year of changes, adjustments, and struggle yet we still stand tall and
continue life while continuing to uplift education as we ensure that the morale of the teachers,
learners, parents, stakeholders, and the community as a whole still stays strong and high.
The school struggled a lot especially in the gathering of resources and funds that will help in the
operationalization since many things are needed. It is realized that learning will take place better if
there is a teacher’s intervention and guidance. Also, face-to-face learning is really a need for the
learners to better understand the lesson and for teachers to explain them well. We also do have
struggles in capacitating the teachers as we adjust to the new normal in education. Upskilling,
motivating teachers, counseling, conferences with parents, resourcing, networking with
stakeholders, and planning are really needed to improve the system of teaching and learning.
We educators must be committed, competent, and innovative. We must also be compassionate,
and most importantly, we must have a character or attitude. Maintaining the characteristics of a
21st-century teacher, which include being an adaptor and leader as well as a visionary,
communicator, risk-taker, collaborator, and learner, is very vital.
Teacher #06 Teachers play an important role in boosting learners’ engagement in education affected by the
COVID - !9 pandemic. The teachers’ role become crucial as for making sure that the learners stay
engaged and do not lose their motivation. Here are some of my recommendations to improve the
system of teaching and learning that we are currently using. First, as a teacher we must be
innovative and creative. We must focus on creating conducive environments within which good
learning can occur. Teachers are inventive and creative – where they continue to discover and
devise new methods and content to ensure that students always get the best learning experiences.
Being innovative, it makes collaboration easier. Students, teachers, and parents can communicate
and collaborate effectively. It helps to build technology-based skills, allowing students to learn, early
on, to embrace and take advantage of tools technology offers. Second, a teacher must be flexible
and adaptable. These are two most important qualities that every teacher must possess. Flexibility
is being able to use a variety of teaching techniques and strategies. This skill also comes in handy
in the classroom when, for a variety of reasons, the teacher needs to adjust his/her plans for a
particular day. A flexible teacher is able to make modifications to the plan under specific
circumstances. While adaptability, is the ability to adapt change. In general, it is being able to
acclimate yourself to changing roles, job responsibilities, material, and schedule. Indeed, these are
the qualities we were having right now because of the pandemic. We learn how to be flexible in our
strategies and techniques to jive the competencies given to us. Likewise, we are able to adapt the
new trends in teaching from face-to-face to modular distance learning and from textbooks to SLMs.
Third, parents and stakeholders should join hand in hand to make this learning modality effective. I
believe if we are helping together nothing is impossible. Due to lack of funding by the government, it
is very important to tap the parents, community and stakeholders in whatever projects or proposals
we have in our school. They should be involved in whatever endeavor the school has. Anyway, they
are part and parcel of the school. The success of the school is the success of everybody. Next,
seminars and trainings that can help address teachers’ problem in the new platform of teaching. We
cannot deny the fact that not all teachers are tech savvy. Many teachers are not acquainted with
new applications of the technology. When we do our module module-writing we find it hard because
we are not all trained to write modules and there are some activities that wherein we should use the
technology. Unfortunately, since we are not capable of doing it and we want quality SLMs to be
given to our students we are hiring videographers and we are paying him from our own pocket.
Lastly, we should embrace the new normal in education. We should adjust to the new normal in our
own way. The situation we have is uncertain, and it is okay to take steps we need to, in order to
gain the focus we need on learning something new and what we can share to our students. Instead
of clamoring of this and that, I think we need to embrace what we are given on our tables and make
use of them. Having a positive mindset can really help us in our new journey as teachers. Let us
remember,” We humans are resilient. We can learn to thrive in our new normal if we have the
mindset and the resources we need to adapt.”
Teacher #07 Since COVID 19 caught us by surprise, we cannot do away with difficulties especially that it is our
first time. My recommendation is that teachers must keep in touch with the learners online/ through
text/call to cater there questions about their difficulties in the lesson. Monitor learners ones in a
while through home visitation but with consent from the barangay and with proper health protocol.
Provide additional activities, reading materials or worktext to those you already know from the past
that encounter difficulty especially in reading This is to those who have no internet connection and
gadgets. Create programs for those who have difficulty in reading or in math provided that it will be
done with utmost caution.
For the Department of Education, strengthen the computerization program or the online skills/
social media skills of the teachers because this is very beneficial in augmenting the needs for
learning of the learners but this is only beneficial to those who have gadgets and internet
connection. Strengthen the other modalities so that blended learning can be applied to all schools.
Teacher #08 The department of education should not solely rely on modular learning modality. Online class,
radio and TV based instructions should be strengthen. Teachers can also be mobile where in they
will visit barangays and gather learners and deliver lessons and answers queries of the learners
regarding difficult topics.
Teacher #09 The following are my recommendations for the improvement of the current teaching and learning
system:
a. Provision of educational gadgets for every Filipino learner. The government must provide
phones which are formatted for the sole purpose of education only. Through this, the
teachers will be able to connect to their students online to reinforce the students'
learning.
b. b. Provision of stronger internet connectivity. Communication through educational
gadgets will be impossible without internet. The country has been struggling with this
matter for years yet I believe it is time that the government sets this as a priority for the
sake of the 21st century education.
Teacher #10 With the eagerness to conduct face to face classes, modified learning platforms are already being
applied to other countries. They try to develop learning applications for students to easily track their
learnings and be able to understand given lessons. The use of video discussion can also be of
good help since students could repeatedly view and listen to the discussion.
Teacher #11 The world is still in the surge of Covid 19 pandemic, and even limited face to face is still impossible
to happen, in order to ease the burden of the learners in the modular learning modality, teacher
must provide supplementary learning materials such as learning activities, contextualized materials
for better understanding of the learners. These are simplified activities in line with the objectives in
the MELC. Moreover, since we are already in the advent of technology, we will make use other
online platforms that are accessible to learners as online support and learning modality system. The
use of FB page and messenger intended only for the class where they can easily access the copy
of their modules, teacher can upload videos of the lessons, and can post updates and
announcement, do virtual activities and orientation. On these platforms, learners can access them
anytime and asynchronously. It is not online delivery mode but serve only as an online support to
learners since the school practiced purely the modular learning modality as chosen by the majority
of learners, however, it is expected that most of the learners have FB and messenger account. I
readily recommend this, since I found it effective in my class.
Teacher #12 There could be various ways where we can improve the system of teaching and learning. Since it's
already more than a year after the onset of the pandemic, teachers and students alike are able to
make necessary adjustments especially on areas of their readiness. They are both equipped with
the skills now on the use of the LMS, searching of information via the internet, submission of
activities through uploading to the Google Drive, returning the results through the Google
classroom, and meeting the students with the use of the Google Meet. However, there are some
areas which need improvement. These are on
a) the use of appropriate learning materials
b) more advanced skills on the part of the teachers
c) access to OERs (Open Educational Resources)
d) preparation of quizzes and written examinations through Google Forms which would actually
require training for teachers.
e) how to minimize students' cheating online. Hence, it is highly recommended that teachers should
be trained in the mentioned areas.
Teacher #13 As teachers, it is our job also to deliver modules to our students to the different barangays, but
because of the problem or challenge that I have cited, the school opted to change the mode of
delivery. This school year, the parents are now tasked to return the envelope to the respective
advisers. This way, there will be constant communication among key stakeholders. Also, this is the
chance for the teachers to check the modules in front of their parents to ensure that they have
answered the modules. This is also a way for the teachers and parents to talk on how to address
issues and make necessary actions in order to come-up with best win-win solution.
Teacher #14 As a teacher secondary school teacher, I would suggest that the public school will adapt flexible
learning modality. A combination of modular learning and online learning modalities so that
teachers and students could interact in real time situation. This will give teachers an opportunity to
process the lesson and most importantly to address the queries of the students. For the students,
flexible learning will allow them to interact with the teacher as well as with their fellow students.
Also, both teachers and students will be given the opportunity to use technology.
Teacher #15 Recommendations
T-eachers must undergo more trainings especially in the ICT literacy
E- effective use of different platforms in conducting online teaching and be innovative in
using interactive games to engage students participation
A-ctual teaching/learning process in the Core competency areas to meet the qualification
standard for the National Assessment
C-onduct of skills-based training through face-to-face in the far-flung barangays to provide
livelihood for the community
H-elp one another to improve the teaching-learning process to meet the expectations of
both students and parents. Working collaboratively can bring out positive results and
increase efficiency at work.
Teacher #16 As far as I'm concerned, modification of SLMs and teacher-made LAS is really a big help so
students could easily submit their learning tasks soonest possible. Appropriate intervention
strategies like giving of positive feedbacks to learners either online/offline would boost their
confidence in answering the tasks at hand. Grouping them by clusters would encourage peer
teaching and develop study habits through group study yet observing safety protocol standards.
Building harmonious relationship with parents/guardians as well will stimulate open communication
while gathering feedbacks from them. Conduct of home visitations and close monitoring or follow
ups through group chat/calls if needed and/or during favorable circumstance would strengthen the
continuing delivery of basic education to all distant and diverse learners.
Teacher #17 Use of different online applications that will find learners fun and engaging. Increasing of learners
engagement during synchronous.
Identify and give the support needed by the learners. Give supplemental materials to the topics
during asynchronous.
Teacher #18 1. Parents should help in guiding their children, they need to finds means so that their children can
understand the topics and contents of modules.
2. Parents should be vigilant in asking, supporting and supervising their children’s, while they are
studying at home and answering their modules.
3. The DepEd should provide enough, appropriate and updated resources needed by each school
so that it cannot cause delayed in preparing students materials during this pandemic time.
4. Teacher’s should have a correct planning and scheduling of time in preparing their student’s
materials needed for learning.
5. school administrators should update and gather teachers feedback and observations and give
support in order to improve learning while we are still suffering in this covid 19 pandemic.
5. Everyone should cooperate spontaneously and follow the correct protocol in order to keep safe
and healthy.
Teacher #19 Maybe, one recommendation I could give especially to the higher authorities is that they must have
the enough support given to the field (ex. Bond papers, printers, quality uploaded SLMs), and if
they could lessen the paper works they gave to teachers so that, we, as teachers, could
concentrate more on giving the quality education that our learners need today.
Teacher #21 With the challenges in education brought by the covid-19 pandemic as a teacher in the department,
I can say that the financial capacity of teachers and learners can really affect the teaching and
learning process. Those parents who can afford to send their children to the tutorial center can help
their children in their academics while those parents who are busy for a living do not even give
some time to assist and guide their children in answering their modules. Those children who belong
to less fortunate families are struggling because of lack of support from their parents. I recommend
that our government should back up supporting those less fortunate families in order to improve
them academically and financially. The government should also support the teachers in giving
resources to improve the quality of teaching so that learning will be effective and that children will
be motivated to learn despite this pandemic.
