Intended audience
This document is intended for the personnel who are involved in planning,
managing, and performing the tasks to prepare your site for Compute Blade
installation and to install the same.

This document assumes the following:


 The reader has a background in installation and operation of software.
(Firmware, Driver for Hardware, Operating System and Applications)
 The reader is familiar with the location where the Compute Blade will be
installed, including knowledge of physical characteristics, power systems
and specifications, and environmental specifications.

Installing HVM Navigator
This chapter describes the procedure to install HVM Navigator.

To install HVM Navigator on the PC or management server, follow the
procedure below.
1. Unzip the zip file containing the HVM Navigator files of applicable HVM
Navigator license. This zip file has the file name of “VirNavi-” (fixed)
followed by HVM Navigator version, underscore (_), license level (“Ess” for
Essential, or “Adv” for Advanced), underscore (_), language type (“En” for
English version), and “.zip” extension.

2. When the file extraction has completed, you may find an extracted folder
inheriting the name of the zip file. Drill down the extracted folder until you
find the “VirNavi” folder having the subfolder structure illustrated below
(Advanced license example). When you find the “VirNavi” folder, click the
“VirNavi” folder to select it including its content.

3. Copy and paste (or drag and drop) the selected “VirNavi” folder into any
folder on the PC or management server. The resulting “VirNavi” folder upon
installation contains several subfolders as shown in Table 1-1.

This chapter describes the procedure to install the prerequisite software.
 Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
 Installing Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
 Installing JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7 x86 Edition
 Installing Plink Release 0.66

In order to use HVM Navigator, the prerequisite software shown below must
be installed on the stand-alone PC (for stand-alone operation) or the
management server (SC/BSM for HVM-connected operation) as applicable. For
the specific installation procedures, see Sections 2.1 through 2.4. (For
installing the prerequisite software, execute the downloaded file and then
follow the guidance)

Prerequisite software for activation of HVM Navigator (on PC and/or


management server)
 Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
 Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

Prerequisite software for Migration functions of HVM Navigator (on


management server only)
 JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7
To execute LPAR migration on Windows x64 Edition, you need to install
both JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7 x86 Edition and JRE (Java Runtime
Environment) 7 x64 Edition, and then you need to set the folder path
where JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7 x86 Edition is installed, as an
environment variable.
 Plink Release 0.66
To shut down a server where a Linux installation is running in an LPAR
migration, you need to install this software.

Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
Installing onto Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2

As of April 2014, when you check the checkbox “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Features” in “Add Roles and Features Wizard” window, you cannot install
“Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1”.

Install “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1” with the installation
media for Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
1. Run the command prompt as the administrator.

2. Execute the following command.
Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All
/Source:x:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess
‘x’ in the red frame: the alphabet assigned to the CD/DVD drive
The following figure shows the example that “F” is assigned to the CD/DVD
drive.

The message in the following figure is shown after the installation has
completed.

Installing onto Windows Server 2008 R2, 2008 R2 SP1
To install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 on the management
server where Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is
running, follow the procedure below.
1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then select Server Manager.

2. In the left pane of the “Server Manager” window opened, click Features.

3. In the right pane, click Add Features.

4. On the first page of the “Add Features Wizard” window opened, click .NET
Framework 3.5.1 Features check box title.

5. On the subsequent page for confirmation, click Add Required Role

6. On the subsequent page where.NET Framework 3.5.1 Features check
box is now checked, click Next button.

7. On the subsequent page titled “Web Server (IIS),” click Next button.

8. On the subsequent page titled “Select Role Services,” click Next button.

9. On the subsequent page titled “Confirm Installation Selections,” click


Install button. The installation process starts.

10. When the installation process has completed, the final page titled
“Installation Results” is displayed. Click Close button to close this window
and then exit the wizard.

11. In the “Server Manager” window left open, click Features in the left pane to
confirm that .NET Framework 3.5.1 is installed, and then click the close
icon in the title bar to close this window.

Installing onto Windows 8, 8.1

As of April 2014 when you check the checkbox “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Features” in “Add Roles and Features Wizard” window, you cannot install
“Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1”.

Install “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1” with an installation


media for Windows 8 or Window 8.1.
1. Run the command prompt as the administrator.

server where Windows 7 or Windows 7 SP1 is running, follow the procedure
below.
1. Click Start and then select Control Panel.

2. In the “Control Panel” window opened, click Programs.

3. In the right pane, click Turn Windows features on or off.

4. On the first page of the “Windows Features” window opened, click .NET
Framework 3.5.1 Features check box title, and then click OK.

5. The installation process starts. When the installation process has completed,
this window is closed.

6. When the following window is displayed, click Restart Now to apply the
changes.

Installing onto any other Windows OS
To install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 on the PC or
management server where any other Windows OS is running, follow the
procedure below.
1. Double-click the downloaded “dotnetfx35.exe” file (Full Package). The file
extraction and loading process may take a few minutes.

2. On the welcome page of the setup window, select I have read and
ACCEPT the terms of the License Agreement radio button and then
click Install button. The installation process starts. It takes several
minutes.

3. When the installation process has completed, the “Setup Complete” page of
the setup window is displayed. Click Exit button to close this window and
then exit the setup.

Installing Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET
Framework 3.5
To install Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 on the
target PC or management server, follow the procedure below.
1. Double-click the downloaded “MSChart.exe” file.

2. On the welcome page of the software update window, click Next button.

3. On the subsequent page of the same window, select I have read and
accept the license terms check box and then click Next button. The
installation process starts.

4. When the installation process has completed, a completion message is


displayed on the same window. Click Finish button to close this window
and then exit the software update.

Installing JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7 x86 Edition
To install JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7 x86 Edition onto the
management server, follow the procedure below. When installing JRE (Java
Runtime Environment) 7 x86 Edition, you need to follow the procedure from
step1 to step3, whereas, when installing JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7
x64 Edition, you need to follow the procedure from step1 to step4.
1. Double-click the downloaded JRE 7 setup file.

2. On the welcome page of the setup window, click Install button. The
installation process starts. It takes several minutes.

3. When the installation process has completed, a completion message is
displayed on the same window. Click Close button to close this window and
then exit the setup.

This is the final step when you install JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7
x86 Edition, whereas, when you install JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 7
x64 Edition, do the steps to follow.

4. Set up the environment variable for the installed JRE 7 according to the
procedure steps below.
a. Activate System applet from the control panel in the “System
Properties” window opened, click Advanced tab.

b. Click Environment Variables button.

c. In the “Environment Variables” subwindow opened, scroll down the
vertical scroll bar in the “System variables” group box until Path
variable is visible. Then, select Path variable and then click Edit button.

d. In the “Edit System Variable” subwindow opened, type the installed
path of the JRE 7 at the end of the existing text string in Variable
value text box so as to begin with a semicolon separator (“;C:\Program
Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin” in the example below). Then, click OK button
to close this subwindow and then save your edit.

e. In the “Environment Variables” subwindow left open, click OK button to


close this subwindow and then keep your edit saved.

f. Activate command prompt by clicking “Start menu,” “All program” and
“Accessory” then input “path” to confirm the path.

g. In the “System Properties” window left open, click OK button to close


this window and then keep your edit saved.

Installing Plink Release 0.66
To install Plink Release 0.66 on the management server, copy the downloaded
plink.exe file to an arbitrary folder. By default, HVM Navigator assumes that
the plink.exe file is copied in the folder containing HVM Navigator executable
(i.e., “VirNavi\bin”) as illustrated below.

When you use any other folder as the Plink installation folder, specify the file
path according to the procedure described in Compute Blade HVM Navigator
User’s Guide—Getting Started.

procedure below.
1. In the “Programs and Features” window, ensure that the installed software
is listed.

3. In the “Add Roles and Features Wizard” window, confirm that the checkbox
for .NET Framework 3.5 Features is filled or checked.

1. Activate Programs and Features applet from the control panel.

2. In the “Programs and Features” window opened, ensure that the installed
software is listed.

3. Close the “Programs and Features” window by clicking the close icon in the
title bar.

below.
1. Activate Programs and Features applet from the control panel.

2. In the “Programs and Features” window opened, ensure that the installed
software is listed.

3. Close the “Programs and Features” window by clicking the close icon in the
title bar.

4. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then select Server Manager
in the same manner.

5. In the left pane of the “Server Manager” window opened, click Features in
the same manner.

6. In the right pane, ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 features are
listed.

7. Close the “Server Manager” window by clicking the close icon in the title
bar.

4. In the “Windows Features” window opened, ensure that the installed
software is listed and then the check box is filled.

Confirming on any other Windows OS
To confirm the installed software on the PC or management server where any
other Windows OS is running, follow the procedure below.

(on Windows Vista)


1. Ensure that Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5,
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and Java are listed in the "Program and
Function" window of the Control Panel.
Refer to the example below.

(on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2)


2. Ensure that Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5,
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and Java are listed in the “Add or Remove
Programs” window of the Control Panel.
Refer to the example below.

3. Close the window by clicking the close icon in the title bar. Pay attention
NOT to click Remove button.
