1.A free pith-ball A of 8 g carries a positive charge of 5x10^8 C. What must be the nature and magnitude of charge that
should be given to a second pith-ball B fixed 5 cm below the former ball so that the upper ball is stationary?
2.Two point charges + 4e and + e are 'fixed' a distance 'a' apart. Where should a third point charge q be placed on the
line joining the two charges so that it may be in equilibrium ? In which case the equilibrium will be stable and in which
unstable ?
3.Calculate coulomb force between two a-particles separated by a distance of 3.2 x 10-15 m in air.
4.Consider three charges q1, q2, q3 each equal to q at the vertices of an equilateral triangle of side l . What is the force
on a charge Q (with the same sign as q) placed at the centroid of the triangle ?
5.Three point charges +q each are kept at the vertices of an equilateral triangle of side 'l'. Determine the magnitude and

any one of the charges.

The electric field at the middle point O between the charges is 6.4 x 10 ^ 4 N/C. Find the distance 'd' between the point
charges A and B.
8.Two point charges of +1µC and +4µC are kept 30 cm apart. How far from the +1µC charge on the line joining the two
charges, will the net electric field be zero?
9.Two point charges of + 16 µC and – 9 µC are m, which are placed 8 cm apart in air. Determine the position of the point
at which the resultant field is zero.
10.Two point charges q₁ = + 0.2 C and = +0.4 C field at are placed 0.1 m apart. Calculate the electric field
(a) the midpoint between the charges.
(b) a point on the line joining q₁ and q₂ such that it is 0.05 m away from q₂ and 0.15 m away from q1.
11.ABCD is a square of side 5 m. Charges of +50 C, -50 C and + 50 C are placed at A, C and D respectively. Find the
resultant electric field at B.
12.Two point charges q₁ and q2 of 10 ^ - 8 C and -10^ -8 C respectively are placed 0.1 m apart. Calculate the electric
fields at points A, B and C shown in Fig.
13.Two point charges +6q and -8q are placed at the vertices 'B' and 'C' of an equilateral triangle ABC of
side 'a' . Obtain the expression for (i) the magnitude and (ii) the direction of the resultant electric field at
the vertex A due to these two charges.
14.Two identical electric dipoles are placed along the diagonals of a square ABCD of side √2 m). Obtain
the magnitude and direction of the net electric field at the center O of the square.
15.Two identical dipoles are arranged in the x-y plane . Find the magnitude and the direction of the net

16.An electric dipole is placed at an angle of 60° with an electric field of magnitude 4×10^ 5 N/C. It experiences a torque
of 8√3 Nm. If the length of the dipole is 4 cm, determine the magnitude of either charge of the dipole.
17. The electric field components in Fig. 1.88 are E = 𝛂x ^ (1/2), Ey = Ez = 0 in which 𝛂= 800
N/Cm². Calculate (i) the flux through the cube and (ii) the charge within the cube. Assume that a
= 0.3 m
18.If E =6i +3 j +4k , calculate the electric flux through a surface of area 20 units in the Y-Z plane.
19.An electric field is uniform, and in the positive x direction for positive x and uniform with the same magnitude in the

(i) What is the net outward flux through each flat face?
(ii) What is the flux through the side of the cylinder ?
(iii) What is the net outward flux through the cylinder?
(iv) What is the net charge inside the cylinder ?
20.Two large, thin metal plates are parallel and close to each other. On their inner faces, the plates have surface charge
densities of opposite signs and of magnitude 17.7×10^-22 C/m². What is electric field intensity E
(a) in the outer region of the first plate, and. (b) between the plates ?
22.Given a uniform electric field E = 5x10^2 N/C. find the flux of this field through a square of 10 cm on a side whose
