Teacher, our topic yesterday was all about
common and proper nouns.
That’s right! Our topic yesterday was all about
dynamics

Now, I have prepared an activity for me to know

if you really understand our topic yesterday about
common and proper nouns. All you need to do is
to sort each word that is written in the box and
then write it into one of three categories which is
person, place or thing. Later on, we will check all Yes, Sir.
of your answers.
Do you understand class?
(The students will raise their hands)

Ok, kindly raise your hand if you want to answer.

Good job class! It’s now clear to me that you all

understand our topic yesterday. For that, give G O O D J O B, Good job Good job.
yourselves a Good Job Clap.
G O O D J O B, Good job Good job.
2. Motivation
Before we continue, I have prepared a video for
you to watch and listen to. While listening to the
video, you can jot down notes and then later on
after the video, I will call someone to share their
ideas about it.
Alright class, what do we use when we are
Teacher, we use are ears and eyes when we
watching videos?
are watching videos.

That’s right! It’s the same when we are

communicating to other people, we should listen
and focus to them when they are speaking as a
form of respect and to be able to understand
them.
Are you excited to watch the videos?
Yes, Teacher.
(The students will carefully watch and listen
to the video.)

Did you enjoy the video class?

Yes, Teacher.
What did you notice about the video?
Teacher, I noticed that the song is composed
of words like he and she when it is pertaining
to a boy and a girl.
Very good. The song is composed of he when it is
pertaining to a boy and she when it is a girl.

Ok, what else?

Teacher, I also noticed that the song doesn’t
have any names or nouns. Instead, it used the
words I, we, and they.
Good job pointing that out! I commend you for
that.
Now, I think that you have an idea of what will
be our lesson for today.

Can you tell me what it is?

Teacher, I think our lesson for today is all
about pronouns.
3. Pre-Reading
a. Unlocking of Difficulties
Correct! This afternoon, we are going to learn
about pronouns, specifically the subject pronouns.
But before that, let us take a look first at the short
story entitled “A Busy Day at the Farm.” This
will help us to better understand subject pronouns
and its importance.
Are you ready to read the story?
Everybody, please read. Yes, Teacher.
(The students will read the story)

“A Busy Day at the Farm”

Once upon a time, there was a farmer
named Sam. Sam had a little sister named Anna.
Every morning, Sam and Anna would go out to
the fields together.
It was a sunny day, and everyone was
ready to help. Sam fed the chickens, and Anna
watered the flowers. Then, Sam and Anna went to
check on the cows and sheep. Sam petted the
animals, and Anna gave them fresh water.

After reading the story, can you tell me what did

you notice and how does the story sounds?

Teacher, it sounded like a robot because the

names of Sam and Anna are always repeated
Nice Observation! The story sounded like a robot in every sentences of the story.
because the names of Anna and Sam are always
repeated in every sentences of the story and it
makes the story a bit long.
Now, I also prepared the same short story “A
Busy Day at the Park” but this time with the use
of subject pronouns. Without further ado,
everyone please read and let us tell the difference
between the two.
“A Busy Day at the Park”
Once upon a time, there was a farmer
named Sam. He had a little sister named Anna.
Every morning, they would go out to the fields
together.
It was a sunny day, and everyone was
ready to help. He fed the chickens and she
watered the flowers. Then, they went to check on
the cows and sheep. He petted the animals, and
she gave them fresh water.

Ok, now what did you notice after reading the

second story with pronouns?

Teacher, after reading the story, I noticed that

That’s right! It sounded smoother rather than the it sounded smoother unlike the first one.
first story.
But why?

Teacher, because it doesn’t repeat the names

of Sam and Anna instead it uses the pronouns
Very good! It sounded smoother unlike the first he, she, and they to replace them.
story because it doesn’t repeat the names of Sam
and Anna instead it uses the pronouns he, she and
they to replace them.

Alright class, now you know the importance of

using pronoun.

4. Discussion
Now, we will dive deeper into our lesson and
learn about the different subject pronouns and
when do we use them.
Subject pronouns are words we use to replace the (The students will listen to the discussion)
names of people or things when they are doing an
action. Using subject pronouns helps us avoid
repeating names over and over, making our
sentences clearer and smoother.
Let's look at the chart to understand better.

Let’s start with first person subject pronouns.

When I talk about myself, I use the word 'I.' For
example, instead of saying, 'Jade am going to the
store,' I say, 'I am going to the store.'
What did you notice?
Teacher, it sounded smoother and simpler.
That’s right. And ‘I’ is used when we’re talking
about ourselves.
Now, if I’m with a group of people and we are all
doing the same thing, I would use the word 'we'
instead of repeating all our names. So, instead of
saying, 'Krypton, Francis, and I are going to the
park,' I would say, 'We are going to the park.' The
word 'we' replaces all of our names in the
sentence.
So, ‘we’ is used when there’s more than one
person, including ourselves.
Again, when do we use the pronoun ‘we’?
Teacher, we use the pronoun ‘we’ when we’re
talking about more than one person, including
ourselves.
Very good.
Now let’s move on to the second person subject
pronoun, which is 'you.' This one is easy because
we use 'you' when talking directly to someone. So
if I want to talk to just one student, I’d say, 'You
are doing a great job!' And if I’m speaking to the
whole class, I would still say, 'You are all doing a
great job!' So, 'you' doesn’t change, whether I’m
speaking to one person or a group.
‘You’ is the same for both singular and plural
situations.
Now, let’s talk about the third person subject
pronouns. This is when we’re talking about
someone or something else.
If I’m talking about a boy, I would use 'he.' For
example, instead of saying, 'John is playing
soccer,' I would say, 'He is playing soccer.' The
word 'he' replaces John's name.
If it’s a girl, we use 'she.' So, instead of saying,
'Sarah is reading a book,' I say, 'She is reading a
book.' It’s the same idea, but 'he' is used for boys
or men, and 'she' is used for girls or women.
Teacher, what if we’re not talking about a
person but an object or an animal?
Good question! If we’re talking about an object
or an animal, we often use 'it.' For example,
instead of saying, 'The cat is sleeping,' we say, 'It
is sleeping.' Or if we’re talking about a thing, like
a book, instead of 'The book is on the table,' we
say, 'It is on the table.' 'It' is used for anything
that’s not a person.
Do you understand class?

And finally, if we’re talking about more than one

person or thing, we use the word 'they.' So,
instead of saying, 'John and Sarah are playing,'
we say, 'They are playing.' 'They' replaces two or
more names. And this applies to people, animals,
and things. So, instead of saying, 'The books are
on the table,' we can also say, 'They are on the
table.’
let’s do a quick review. We have 'I' and 'we' for
first person – that’s when I’m talking about
myself or myself with others. Then, we have 'you'
for second person, when I’m talking directly to
someone or a group. And finally, we have 'he,'
'she,' 'it,' and 'they' for third person, when I’m
talking about other people, animals, or things.
5. Generalization
Now, I have prepared some questions for me to
see if you really understand our lesson today.

Are you ready class?

Yes, Teacher.

1. What exactly are subject pronouns, and why

do we use them?
Teacher, subject pronouns are words we use
to replace names of people, animals, or things
in a sentence. We use them to avoid repeating
names over and over, making our sentences
shorter and clearer.
Exactly!
2. When do we use subject pronouns in a
sentence?
We use subject pronouns when we want to
talk about someone or something doing an
action. Instead of repeating the person's name,
we use a pronoun.
Very good.
Now, let’s start with first-person pronouns.
3. What do we use when we’re talking about
ourselves?
We use 'I' for singular, and 'we' for plural,
when we include others. So if I’m talking
about myself, I say 'I am going to the store,'
but if I’m with my friends, I say 'We are
going to the store.
Correct! 'I' is for when one person is talking about
themselves, and 'we' is when the speaker includes
themselves and others.
4. Can you think of a time when you would use
'we'?
If I’m with my family and we’re going to the
park, I would say, 'We are going to the park.'
Now, let's talk about second-person pronouns.
5. What pronoun do we use when we’re speaking
directly to someone?
We use 'you,' whether we're talking to one
person or more than one person.
That’s right! So, does 'you' change depending on
if we’re talking to one person or a group?

No, Teacher. 'You' stays the same for both

singular and plural. If I’m talking to one
person, I say, 'You are doing a great job.' If
I’m talking to the whole class, I still say, 'You
are all doing a great job.

Perfect!
5 What about when we're talking about other
people or things? What do we use then?
We use third-person pronouns. For a boy or
man, we use 'he.' For a girl or woman, we use
'she.' For things or animals, we use 'it.' And
for more than one person, animal, or thing, we
use 'they.'

Nice! So, instead of saying ‘Krypton is playing

soccer,’ we would say what? Teacher, I would say ‘He is playing soccer.’

Correct!
Next, instead of saying ‘Francheska is playing Teacher, I would say ‘She is playing soccer.’
soccer,’ we would say what?

How about in the sentence ‘The cat is sleeping?’

‘It was sleeping,’ Teacher.
Good job.
And lastly, how about when I’m talking about
two or more people, animals, or things? What do
we use?
Teacher, we use 'they.' So if I’m talking about
John and Sarah, I would say, 'They are
playing soccer.
Very good, Class. Now, I’m certain that you all
understand our lesson for today.
6. Application / Evaluation / Assessment
For your group activity, I will divide the class
into four groups and each group will receive an
envelope containing their assigned task and a
scoring rubric. Each group has only 5 minutes to
finish their assigned activities and then later on,
