Lot of problems in mathematics involve more than one operation. Some

may contain a series of operations and different grouping symbols such as
parenthesis ( ), brackets , and braces .

Rules in the order of operations.

 Do the numbers inside the parentheses first.

 Multiply and divide from left to right in the order that they appear.
 Add and subtract from left to right in the order that they appear.
Examples:

1. 12 ÷ 6 × 2 + 4 – 5
2. 6 ÷ 3 × 2 + 5 – 1
3. 3 ×[4 - 2 × (10 -8) + 12 ÷ 6 × 1]

How will you solve following the order of operations?

To solve the order of operations, follow the rules listed above.

Solutions:
