1.0 PURPOSE

This method statement describes the methodology of Floor and Wall Tiles installation of Blue
Book Filling Room,Mondelez @ Hidd.

2.0 SCOPE

This method statement covers the following procedures to be adapted for Floor and Wall
Tiles installation.

4.0 RESOURCES

4.1 Materials

4.2 EQUIPMENT’S AND TOOLS

4.2.1 The essential equipment to be used for this activity is;

a. Survey Instruments
(Auto level, Measuring Tape etc)
b. Masonry trowels and other hand tools
c. Triangular Spatula
d. Tile cutter
e. Water Tank
4.3 Manpower

4.3.1. Civil engineer shall be responsible for the supervision and implementation of
this method statement .Manpower under him will consist but not limited to the
following;
a. Civil Foreman
b. Mason
c. Tilers
d. Skilled Worker
e. Electrician
f. Scaffolder

5.0 WORK EXECUTION

5.1 WORK PROCEDURE

5.1.1 FLOORTILES (Argillite unglazed hexagonal floor tiles, coved base skirting)
Surface Preparation

 Prior commencing installation, examine the concrete floor and see that substrates are
sufficiently cleaned and level.
 Concrete floor shall be free from dust, loose materials, grease and oil.
 Soak the floor sufficiently before installation of tiles.

Installation of floor tiles

 Check and ensure there are no unintended / color / shade variation within the tiles for use in
each area.
 Prepare a bed for tiles with cement and sand dry mortar (1:4 ).
 Tiles shall be laid on the cement slurry evenly spread over this bed and lightly tapped with a
rubber hammer to ensure solid bedding and to prevent the formation of air pockets.
 Only enough slurry shall be mixed and spread at one time as can be covered with tiles
before slurry has attained its initial set.
 Tiles to be laid out as per setting out point shown in approved drawing.
 Tiles should be cut with suitable cutting tool and edges to be smooth.
 All tiles shall be laid with square joints.
 Joint width for tiles of all sizes : 2mm Utilise 2mm spacer while installation of floor tiles.
Broken tiles or tiles showing sign of defect should not use in installation.
 Curing will be done for 24 hrs by spreading water over the tiles.
 Ensure tiles should give a solid firm sound when hit after setting, in case hollow sound is
produced tiles and mortar layer shall be replaced.
 Grouting will be done after the initial setting time and curing time with white cement grout.
 Prior grouting the tile surface will be thoroughly cleaned for clearing the gap between the
tiles.

5.1.2 WALL TILES, SKIRTING (200MM x 300MM blue book filling room wall tiles,
Skirting,)
Surface Preparation
 All surfaces must be sound and thoroughly clean and free of other contamination. Where
Concrete block walls and concrete walls are to be finished with tile, Apply a levelling coat of
Plaster minimum 12 mm thick and cure with water for 7 days.
 At first, Start with the setting out point and the periphery tiles are set as per tiles Approved
drawing.
 Setting out should be checked and approved by (Client Engineer).

 Joint width for tiles of all sizes : 2mm Utilise 2mm spacer while installation of wall tiles.
Remove excess adhesive with damp cloth before materials has set.
 Wall tiling shall be laid up to as per approved drawings
 Areas where wall tiles have been laid shall be completely rope off for at least 24 hours.

Grouting of wall and floor tiles ( see technical data and application method below )
 All bedding material to harden sufficiently before grouting.
 Ensure that joints are free from dust and debris.
 Tile joints shall be grouted with ‘Tile Joint Filler -TJF’. Grout is mixed thoroughly with
approved colour and applied on the joints by means of spatula
 All excess grout is removed by and in filled grout is allowed to settle to have a good bonding.
Clean and tidy the place. Protect the area from traffic at least 12 hours.

6.0 HELTH AND SAFETY

Specific safety measures shall be implemented as per the Project Safety Plan.
a. The working area shall be barricaded with safety materials ( Safety Cones, soft
Barricades, warning tapes, safety sign boards, flickering lights, etc.) and fencing to
restrict unauthorized entry.
b. Execution of the above works shall conform to the Risk Assessment Analysis of this
method statement.
c. Full time Safety Officer shall be assigned to assess the site works and maintain records
of inspection conducted.
d. The following safety precautions will be exercised;
 Ensure that all workers related to this work shall have attended Safety Induction
and shall be provided with proper PPE.
 All Workers shall wear Coverall
 Implement “Permit to Work” system. No work shall proceed unless inspected by
client engineer.
 Conduct Daily Tool Box Meeting for mutual understanding of workers and record
attendance of attendees.
 Safety warning tapes and warning sign shall be provided as a barrier.
