Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions,
exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step
as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM.
This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to
ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the
lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check
your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that
you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teachers are also provided
to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best
help you on your home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of
this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercise and tests. Read
the instructions carefully before performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering thetasks
in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.
What I Need to Know
This module provides varied activities that will help you learn about
constructing and interpreting as well as solving problems involving Pie Graph.
At the end of this module, you are expected to:
Construct a pie graph based on a given set of data;
and
Interpret data presented in a pie graph;

What is It
A Pie Graph is a type of graph that displays data in a circular graph. Each slice
of the pie is relative to the size of that category in the group as a whole. The entire
“pie” represents 100 percent of a whole; while the pie “slices” represent portions of the
whole.
Pie graphs are good for displaying data for around 6 categories or fewer.
Source – It explains where you found the information that is in your graph.
Data- are characteristics or information, usually numerical, that are collected through
observation.
For you to learn how to draw a Pie Graph, read and study the example below.

Example:
In Masagana Elementary School, there are 750 students in Year1, 420 students in Year
2 and 630 students in Year 3. Draw a circle graph to represent the numbers of students
in these group.

4
How to Construct a Pie Graph Given the Percentage Of Each Sector?
Solution:
1. Find the angle for each section.
5
The figure below shows the complete Pie Graph of our sample problem.
To interpret a pie graph or pie chart, read the title of the graph or chart. The title tells
what information is being displayed. Read the labels. Then study the graph to
understand what it shows. Look for the differences in the size of the slices. Please
study the given example below.
