1. Preparation of working platform
The Working Platform shall be prepared for Truck mounted drilling machine to
access freely at the drilling spot, Storage of water tank, Grouting Plant and Welding
machine.

2. Drilling of holes
The Drilling in the loose soil and Boulders shall be done by installing a temporary
steel casing of (About 114mm dia. to 150mm) by using special bit following the
ODEX or equivalent system. With this methodology it is possible simultaneously to
drill the hole and install the casing with Pneumatic DTH drilling Rigs. The holes will
be drilled up to one meter below the rock. Length of drilling hole shall be considered
approximately 20 m.

3. Fabrication & Lowering of PVC pipes

For Grouting pipes used for grouting in stage shall made up of PVC with 48.3mm and
a wall thickness of 3-4mm. The Sleeves shall be made up of rubber and spaced at
0.5 m. intervals with 8mm Dia. Holes.
The pipe shall be 1.5 or 3.0 m Length to suit the various Configuration of depth with
threads at the end shall be sealed with cab and shall be connected with sockets and
lowered in the drilled bore holes.
These PVC pipes allow the injection of grout from individual Sleeves The Annulus
surrounding PVS pipe shall filled with Sleeve Grout.

4. Sleeve Grouting

The Sleeve grouting design was chosen such that it will form strong enough Sleeve
around the PVC pipe and preventing the grout migration along the PVC pipes up to
ground level but shall be weak enough to be fractured by the grout when opening
particular sleeve under pressure in the stage grouting. The mix shall be computed
during trial calibration at site.

[Super Engineering Works] Page 4

Past experience the following sleeve grout was most appropriate use.
Water 100 litrs
Cement 50 Kg.
Bentonite Mix 50 litr
Bentonite made up of 500 lit of water and 20Kg of Bentonite

NOTE:- ** TOR (TERM OF REFERENCE) & mix grout design shall be provide by Patel Engg. Ltd as per their
objective & expected strength.

5. Extraction of temporary casing

After filling the annulus with sleeve grout the casing shall be withdrawn. If the level
of sleeve grout dropped due to outflow in to the grout zone additional sleeve grout
shall be used to restore the level in the drill hole.

6. Tam Grouting
The purpose of grouting to form a grout curtain to control the seepage and
consolidate the terrace and filled materials below the coffer dam.
Grouting is processes of filling voids, cavities & pore in soil replace the water or air
of the previous medium with grout.

6.1) Grouting Sequence

The distance between the grout holes shall be 2-3mtr C/C intervals in a row of
staggered pattern across the coffer dam.
In each hole to be grouted grouting shall be commence from the bottom of the
hole an “ascending” sequence with each stage of 0.5mtr. After injection of grout
each stage the PVC pipes cleaned thoroughly from the bottom of the hole.

6.2) Cracking of the Sleeve grout

Once the Packer is placed at a stage the first step to opening sleeve and cracking
in the Sleeve grout at higher pressure up to 15 bars for a small moment is
required.
This pressure is higher than the recommended pressure for actual grouting. If
does not pose a problem since it acts only for a short period of time.

6.3) Tam Grouting
Cement Bentonite grout quantities used for this preliminary injection phase
should be limited. The quantity of grout to be placed via an individual sleeve
should be about 10% to 20% of the theoretical volume of ground to be treated
via this sleeve.
After the preliminary phase of cement Bentonite grout pressure injection is
achieved over minimum 10m of curtain, the main grouting phase using silica gel
and / or fine cement grout may take place in every sleeve of every hole at the
central row. The quantity of gel or fine cement grout to be set in place via an
individual sleeve should be about 40-50% of the theoretical volume of ground to
be treated via this sleeve.

6.4) Grout Mix Design

Various mix designs shall be used depending on the intake of the grout and as
per specification. Considering the strata condition prevailing at site it is
suggested to grout the holes commencing with lean mix of 1: 5 Ratio and
gradually increase the consistency depending up on the rate of grout intake and
build up of grout consistency and grout refusal. To have stable suspension grout
Bentonite shall be added to grout.

1 0.5 3 % of Recommended along with

NOTE:- ** TOR (TERM OF REFERENCE) & mix grout design shall be provide by Patel Engg. Ltd as per
their objective & expected strength.

The Bentonite mix shall be prepared in advance to allow swelling of the

Bentonite The cement water and Bentonite mixing proportions as mentioned
above where the mixed in a high speed colloidal mixture and transferred to an
agitator prior to injection into the ground.

6.5) Grouting Pressure

Considering the strata the proposed pressure of 10 Kg/cm² appears to be alright
but in sandy layers as the penetration of grout will be quite less high pressure
upto 15 kg/cm² can be tried as sandy layers are at lower level also.

7. Quality Control

The grouting shall be recorded for every stages as follows as

a. Reference of the stage (Hole no. and Depth).
b. Volume Injected.
c. Average Grouting Pressure.
d. Average grout flow rate
e. Date and time of starting and ending of grouting.
f. Nature of any incident occurred.
