NEWER DEVELOPMENTS
• Rota virus - 4 states – Andhra Pradesh , Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha
• IPV FD - 6 states -Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and
Puducherry
• PCV was launched by the Union Health Minister, Shri JP Nadda on May 13, 2017 at Mandi,
Himachal Pradesh .
• With this phased introduction, nearly 2.1 million children in Himachal Pradesh (all 12
districts), parts of Bihar (17 out of 38 districts) and Uttar Pradesh (6 out of 75 districts) will be
vaccinated with PCV in the first year .
• This will be followed by introduction in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan next year, and
eventually coverage will be expanded across the entire country in a phased manner, in the
coming years.
 VACCINE CARRIER
• Used to carry small quantities of vaccines (16-20 vials ) for outreach sessions
• 4 fully frozen icepacks are used for lining the sides
• Maintain +2 to +8 C for about 24 hours
• Vaccine Layout: Keep vaccines in a plastic bag

(not in direct touch with the Ice packs)
VACCINE VIAL MONITOR – Assess heat damage to the vaccine
Open Vial Policy is applicable on DPT, TT, Hepatitis B, Oral Polio
Vaccine (OPV), Haemophilus inﬂuenzae type B (Hib) containing
Pentavalent vaccine and injectable Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine
(IPV).
Open Vial Policy does not apply to

Measles, BCG, RVV and Japanese Encephalitis
(JE) vaccines.

Reduced Osmolarity ORS Packet
USES:
Used for treating mild to
moderate dehydration due to
cholera and other acute
diarrhoeal diseases
ADVANTAGES :
1. Reduced concentration of glucose and sodium chloride in the solution has limited the
adverse effect due to hypertonicity of the fluid
2. Reduced-osmolarity ORS solution significantly reduces stool output by 20%, vomiting by

30%, and the need for unscheduled intravenous infusion in non cholera diarrhoea by 33%
• If it is not available then home made fluids like rice water, dal or dal water with salt,
butter milk (lassi), lemon water and coconut water are to be given at household level
• A simple mixture consisting of 5gm of table salt and 20gms of sugar dissolved in 1litre of
drinking water is also effective
Vitamin A Solution
• Prophylactic - Under Universal Immunization Program (RCH/NRHM)
-At 9 months along with Measles vaccine - Dose-1 lakh IU
- Followed by 8 successive doses at 6 monthly intervals up to 5 years of age - Dose-2 lakh IU
• Treatment of VAD:
Administration of massive dose of Vit. A 200000 IU on 2 successive days
• In case of measles : All cases of measles should be treated with 2 successive doses of Vit A.
- Infants < 6 months : 50000 IU
- Children 6-11 months : 100000 IU
- Children ≥ 12 months : 200000 IU

once in two months from 2nd to 3rd year and then once in 3
