Activity 1: Media Use Log (10 mins.)
1. Get one sheet of paper
2. Think of the past week and record the use
and your interaction with the media and
information providers (e.g. Internet, social
media, tv, radio, newspaper, etc.) Indicate how
many hours you were spent engaged with each
one. Estimate the number of hours you spend
each week.
3. Prepare a report in the class for this activity

1. Create a log that reflects their current use
and interaction with media and information.
2. Define the key concepts (media,
information, technology literacy and media
and information literacies).
3. Compare and relate the media and
information literacy framework to their own
understandings and competencies.

STATIONS ANS TV CHANNELS have
also dissappeared.

LITERACY
The ability to indentify, understand, interpret,
create, communicate, and compute, using
printed and written materials associated with
varying contexts.
It involves a continium of learning, wherein
individuals are able to achieve their goals,
develops their knowledge and potential and
participate fully in community and wider society
MEDIA
The physical objects used to
communicate with, or the mass
communication through physical
objects such as radio, television,
computers, film. etc.
-refers to any physical object used to
communicate messages.
MEDIA LITERACY
The ability to access, analyze,
evaluate and create media in a
variety of forms.
The ability to access, analyze,
evaluate and create media in a variety
of forms.
Media Literacy: Five Core Concepts

1. All media messages are constructed.


2.Media messages are constructed using a
creative language with its own rules.
3. Different people experience the same media
message differently.
4.Media have embedded values and points of
view.
5.Most media messages are organized to gain

The ability to recognize when


information is needed, and to
locate, evaluate, and effectively
communicate information in its
various formats.

TECHNOLOGY LITERACY
The ability of an individual, either
working indepedently or with others, to
responsibly, appropriately and
effectively use technological tools.

Using theses tools an individual can access,


manage, integrate, evaluate, create and
communicate information.
MEDIA INFORMATION LITERACY

The essentials skills and competencies


that allow indivuals to engage with
media and other information providers
effectively as well as develop critical
thinking and life-long learning skills to
socialize and become active citizens.
