Brief History
In 1937, Calarian became one of the 98 barangays of the City of Zamboanga upon the
enactment of the Commonwealth Act. No. 39. Calarian is popularly known before as
Upper and Lower Calarian.
Long ago, all the west coast bound for Labuan passes the main road of Lower Calarian
shoreline. Until there are numerous tales of the mystery on origin of the place. One
story tells of a group of people that discovered the natural Bog Lake as sanctuary of
wild animals like white crocodile. The people living in this area have seen many wild
animals like birds and monkeys which were then called Upper Calarian. Now, it is
popularly known as Bagong Calarian.

The program intends to promote and improve the quality of life of older persons
through the establishment and provision of basic health services for older
persons, formulation of policies and guidelines pertaining to older persons,
provision of information and health education to the public, provision of basic
and essential training of manpower dedicated to older persons and, the conduct
of basic and applied researches.

Bike Safety: Be aware of your surrounding. Get headlight and small flashing rear
red light. Even for daytime riding, a bright white light that has a flashing mode can
make you more visible to motorists who might otherwise Right Cross you. Don’t
ride against traffic. Ride with traffic, in the same direction. Don’t stop in the blind
spot of vehicle.
