What is Fire
Fire is the visible effect of the process of
combustion – a special type of chemical
reaction. It occurs between oxygen in the air
I
and some sort of fuel. The products from the
chemical reaction are completely different
from the starting material.
Fire Triangle

The fuel must be heated to

its ignition temperature for
combustion to occur. The
reaction will keep going as
long as there is enough heat,
fuel and oxygen. This is
known as the fire triangle.

safety.
Fire Extinguisher

Fire extinguisher, portable or movable apparatus

used to put out a small fire by directing onto it a
substance that cools the burning material,
deprives the flame of oxygen, or interferes with
the chemical reactions occurring in the flame.
Types of Fire Extinguisher

Class A
1 Class A extinguishers will put out fires in ordinary
combustibles such as wood and paper.

Class B
2 Class B extinguishers are for use on flammable liquids like
grease, gasoline and oil.

Class C
3 Class C extinguishers are suitable for use only on electrically
energized fires.

Class D
4 Class D extinguishers are designed for use on flammable
metals.

• Immediately pull the nearest fire alarm pull station as
you exit the building.
• When evacuating the building, be sure to feel doors
for heat before opening them to be sure there is no
fire danger on the other side.
• If there is smoke in the air, stay low to the ground,
especially your head, to reduce inhalation exposure.
Keep on hand on the wall to prevent disorientation
and crawl to the nearest exit.
• Once away and clear from danger, call your report
contact and inform them of the fire.
• Go to your refuge area and await further instructions
from emergency personnel.
