Submitted By: Structural Analysis of Modified Bumper of Car With Honeycomb Structure Using Ansys
Bumpers play an important role in preventing the impact energy from being transferred to the
automobile and passengers. Saving the impact energy in the bumper to be released in the
environment reduces the damages of the automobile and passengers.
This bumper either absorbs the impact energy with its deformation or transfers it perpendicular
to the impact direction. To reach this aim, a honeycomb structure is designed to convert about
80% of the kinetic impact energy to the spring potential energy and release it to the environment
in the low impact velocity according to American standard.
In addition, since the residual kinetic energy will be damped with the infinitesimal elastic
deformation of the bumper elements, the passengers will not sense any impact. It should be
noted that in this paper, modeling, and result’s analysis are done in SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS
software respectively.
INTRODUCTION
Present days, Substitution of polymeric based composite material in car parts was
effectively actualized in the journey for fuel and weight reduction.
Among the parts in the car business substituted by polymeric based composite materials
are the bumper bar, bumper sash, spoiler, associating bar, pedal box framework, and
entryway inward board.

Bumper in keeping the effective energy
from being transferred to a
vehicle and travelers. Sparing the
effect energy in the bumper to be
discharged in the environment
decreases the harms of the
vehicles.
Stiff metal bumpers appeared on automobiles as early as 1904 that had a mainly ornamental
function. Numerous developments, improvements in materials and technologies, as well as
greater focus on functionality for protecting vehicle components and improving safety have
changed bumpers over the years.
Bumpers ideally minimize height mismatches between vehicles and protect pedestrians from
injury. Regulatory measures have been enacted to reduce vehicle repair costs and, more
recently, impact on pedestrians.

OBJECTIVES AND SCOPES
The SOLIDWORKS CAD software is a mechanical design automation application that lets designers
quickly sketch out ideas, experiment with features and dimensions, and produce models and detailed
drawings. This document discusses concepts and terminology used throughout the SOLIDWORKS
application. It familiarizes you with the commonly used functions of SOLIDWORKS.
This document is for new SOLIDWORKS users. In this document, you are introduced to concepts and
design processes in a high-level approach. The Step-by-Step Lesson on page 98 is hands-on training
that guides you through each step in a process and shows the results.
This document is organized to reflect the way that you use the SOLIDWORKS software. It is
structured around the basic SOLIDWORKS document types: parts, assemblies, and drawings. For
example, you create a part before you create an assembly
FUTURE SCOPE
Structural analysis is probably the most common application of the finite element
method as it implies bridges and buildings, naval, aeronautical, and mechanical
structures such as ship hulls, aircraft bodies, and machine housings, as well as
mechanical components such as pistons, machine parts, and tools. the structural
analysis done at different speeds like 5,35,60,80 km/hr and different materials
carbon fiber composite, glass mat thermoplastic and Aluminum B390
respectively

ADVANTAGES
The purpose of bumpers is to reduce or prevent physical damage to the front and rear of
vehicles in low-speed crashes.
The bumpers are designed to protect the hood, trunk, grill, fuel, exhaust and cooling
system.
