Being a Filipino

Citizen
What makes you a Filipino?
What are we, Filipinos, known
for?
RESPECT
- Since childhood, our parents often keep on telling us to
include “po” and “opo” when we are talking with older
people.
“No person is worth respecting because of
his or her own merit but because he or she
is God’s creation (human being).”
Relating with others based on respect is genuine and
lasting. One becomes considerate of the other person’s ideas,
preferences, and idiosyncrasies. He or she enables to
understand the other person more deeply. When people respect
one another, cooperation easily happens and conflicts seldom
arise.

● Your self-respect is rooted in the love and acceptance your
total self - what you are and what you are not.
● Having self-respect makes you stronger when failures and
disappointments come since you know who you are and you
have accepted your very person.
● Self-respect comes with self-acceptance

Self-Respect
TOLERANCE
- Being tolerant is accepting and appreciating diversity.

- Is one key toward the solution of conflict and peace

building. It promotes peaceful coexistence among people
of different cultures and beliefs.
Coexistence is one way for you to practice
tolerance wherever you are in school or in
the larger community.
Peaceful coexistence is living, working, and learning
together, with everyone committing to the practice of
tolerance and mutual respect, and agreeing to
resolve differences and conflicts in a peaceful
manner.
Differences/non violent conflicts may be resolved through DIALOGUE
where there is listening and learning, and ideas are shared and accepted.
A good dialogue allows everyone to speak openly as everybody listens
respectfully and attentively.
