Example # 1: 42n = 8
To solve the given equation, express both side of the equation in
exponential form using the same base. Then, solve for n using the
properties state above.
Solution:
42n = 8 Given
(5−3) 2x
– 2 • 54x = 53 Negative exponential rule
5−6
x – 2 • 54 x = 53 Power rule
5−6
x – 2 + 4 x = 53 Product rule
−2 𝑥+6=3 Subtracting 6 from both sides
−2 𝑥=−3
3 Dividing both sides by -2

values and equations make it easy to interpret, analyse, and
compare their properties.
