Physiological Aspects
of Physical Education
This module discusses the mechanical concepts
of the human body. It includes the different
types of body movements, muscle
contractions and how exercise affects the
performance of these.
Learning Objectives:
01 03
identify the different major give examples for each type of
muscles of the human muscular contractions.
body.

first requisite of
happiness.”

YOUR
BODY
Learning the major
muscles of the
muscular system will
help you understand
the importance of
exercises.
MUSCLE FATIGUE
If we exercise or use our
muscles strenuously for a long
time, muscle fatigue occurs.
is a type of muscle
contraction in which the
muscles shorten while
generating force,
overcoming resistance.
ECCENTRIC CONTRACTION
In contrast to isotonic
contractions, isometric
contractions generate
force without changing
the length of the muscle,
common in the muscles of
the hand and forearm
responsible for grip.
ISOKINETIC CONTRACTIONS
This is similar to isotonic contraction in
that the muscle changes length during
the contraction, where they differ is
that Isokinetic contractions produce
movements of a constant speed. The
muscles are exposed to a fixed
machine with variable degrees of
resistance.
