    What time do you get up on weekdays?
    I get up at 6:00 in the morning on weekdays.

    The expression “on weekdays” shows that the


    action is regularly done at 6:00 every morning
    on weekdays from Monday to Friday.

    Using Time
    Expressions in the
    Present Tense
    Time Expressions are words that show habitual action. Habitual actions
    denote actions which are done regularly like today, every day, every
    morning, every afternoon, in the evening, every Saturday or any
    expression that indicates that the action happens regularly. There are
    one-word time expressions or adverbs of frequency which are often used
    to indicate present tense such as the following:

    • always • usually
    • regularly • normally
    • often • sometimes
    • occasionally • rarely
    • seldom • never
    These time expressions can be used before the main verb:
    1. I always get up at 6:00 in the morning.
    2. We regularly go to church on Sundays.
    3. Zenie seldom drop by the family house.
    They can also be used at the end of the sentence:

    4. We read the newspaper occasionally.

    Or can be used after the be verb:

    5. Relly is never late to school.


    If actions are done regularly or habitually, the verbs
    used are in the simple present tense. The words
    today, every day, every morning, every afternoon,
    and in the evening are time expressions in the
    present tense. They tell that actions are done
    regularly or habitually.
    A. Directions: Read the sentences and copy the time expression used in each of the
    sentences.

    1. We visit my grandparents every weekend.


    2. I see people jogging at the park early in the
    morning.
    3. My father usually brings home fruits and vegetables
    from the farm.
    4. The employees work from home every other day.
    5. The utility personnel ensures cleanliness every now
    and then.
    B. Directions: Read the sentences. Identify the correct time
    expressions used I each sentence.

    6. Ben and Roy are classmates. They go to school


    (everyday, in the evening).
    7. They review their lessons (once a year, every evening)
    before going to sleep.
    8. Both perform very well in school. They study their lessons
    (every night, once a year).
    9. Roy cleans the house (every afternoon, twice a month)
    when he arrives home from school.
    10. Ben waters the plants (in the morning, every afternoon)
    before going to school.
