understanding are very

examples on how we can
strengthen teacing literacy
skills.

games with
children

How do we teach
literacy
instruction?
Frequent interaction
with the children is
important in teaching
literacy.
The more we take
our time dealing
with them the more
chances of teaching
them new learnings.
There are six early
literacy skills that
every children
must know and
how we can teach
literacy
Six Early
Literacy Skills
Language is the first things that was learn by
a child. From the very first time that a child
was born, the spoken language has been
recognize by the babies. Using the spoken
language a child can learn many things.
1. Expand Vocabulary
Children learn it as they hear
it from their parents of the
people around them. Talk to
them often and let them
describe tand say something
on the things around him/her.
2. Foster Love for Books
Reading stories makes
children ore interesting in
listening and communicating.
It allows them to imagine the
things in the story.
3. Show them plenty of
prints
Learning will eb effective
especially to young ones if
there are lots of colorful
prints and pictures. It boost
their interest.
4. Teach the ABC’s
Teaching them ABC is not just
simply telling the name of the
letter but most importantly
teaching them the sounds of
letters and how they look.
Learning the sounds of the
letters is one of the important
thing that a child must learn to
read and write well. Reading
will be easier if a child know
the sounds and figure of a
letter.
Letter sounding,
singing and talking
rhyming words will also
help children be aware
of the alphabet sounds.
Allowing the children to
speak the sounds of the
letters give them confidence
to create new word from
combining sounds of letters
and syllables.
5. Play with sounds
They can use and process spoken
language, which means they
instinctively know the sounds it
consists of, but that doesn’t mean they
know how to split the phonemes up
along the arbitrary lines our spelling
rules have assigned them.
To learn to read, you need
to be able to
map sounds to letters, so you
can sound out your first
words. Phonics can be
especially tricky for a
language like English in
which different letters can
stand for the same sound.
Singing songs, such as Old
MacDonald Had a Farm, is
great for working on sound
recognition, think (Ee-I-ee-I-
oo), as are children’s books
with exaggerated animal
sounds and other silly content
that may not make much sense
to the adult eye.
6. Present narratives
Storytime at your local library may consist of
someone reading to a group of toddlers. You
can see the children listening, some of them
quite attentively, and making sense of the story
as they look at the pictures and process the
language. If the reader stops to ask questions
and comment on the books, they can perform
a sort of comprehension check to be confident
the children are following along.
Recognizing a narrative and
being able to produce one by
talking about one’s day
and/or organizing steps into a
logical order, assists children
when it comes time for them
to learn to read and write.
Teaching early
literacy instruction is
very important
because this is where
ALL LEARNING
STARTS.
