JET ENGINE OVER HAUL COMPLEX (JEOC)

Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO

TYPES OF MAINTENANCE

Three types of scheduled maintenance for jet engines are carried out in JEOC :

 L1 Level

 L2 Level
The Maintaining Schedules are Classified as :

 Scheduled Maintenance
 Unscheduled Maintenance

Scheduled Maintenance :- The operation takes place after a certain

specified numbers of flying hours/cycles of the jet engine, it is licensed
as scheduled maintenance.
Unscheduled Maintenance :- If a jet engine arrives at JEOC due to an
unforeseen snag or defect, then the operation would be termed as
unscheduled maintenance.
FINAL ASSEMBLY OF JT8D
JT8D is an axial flow front, dual (engine) spool, fully ducted, turbofan engine having a 13
stage split compressor, 4th stage reaction impulse turbine.
MODULES OF JT8D
Engine Section :
The engine has a general sections :-
A. JT8D has fall length annular fan duct
B. Low Pressure Compressor (LPC)
 6 stages
 Rotational Speed = N1
C. High Pressure Compressor (HPC)
 7 Stages
 Rotational Speed = N2
D. Combustor F. Low Pressure Turbine (LPT)

 Nine fuel nozzle  3 stages

 Nine can annular C.C.
 Rotational speed = N1
E. High Pressure Turbine (HPT)
 Drives the LPC
 3 stages
G. Exhaust Section
 Rotational Speed = N2
 Receives LPT discharge air
 Drives the HPC.

 Receive secondary air from outer duct

V2500 ENGINE

The Engine

 The input cowl

 The left and right fan cowl doors.
 The left and right ‘C’ ducts which incorporate the ‘Cold stream’ hydraulically
thrust reverses.
 The combined Nozzle Assembly
 The front and rear engine mounts.
PROPULSION UNIT OUTLINE

 The Core Engine Flow

 The Bypass Flow
 CNA

CORE ENGINE FLOW :- The core engine flow passes through the final inlet guide
vanes to the three stage ‘booster’ then to the high pressure compressor, the combustion
section of the high pressure and low pressure turbines and finally exhausts into the CAN.

BY PASS FLOW :- The fan exhaust air (Cold stream) entering the by pass duct passes
through fan outlet guide vanes and flows along the bypass duct to exhaust into the CNA.

CNA :-The core engine ‘hot’ exhaust and the ‘cool’ bypass flow are ‘mixed’ in the
common Nozzle Assembly before passing through the single propelling nozzle to
atmosphere.
Engine Pressure Ratio (EPR)

Where P4.9  LP turbine exhaust passage.
