CAPITALIZATION

writing tasks. In this lesson, you will learn about the conventions of
capitalization.

CAPITALIZATION
Capitalization is writing the first letter in uppercase
while the rest of the letters of the word are in
lowercase. It helps in deciphering the meaning of
words. If proper nouns are not capitalized, for instance,
their meaning can change, and this can lead to
misunderstanding.
CAPITALIZATION RULES
There are several rules in capitalization. The following are the most common
capitalization rules applied in writing a text:
1. Proper nouns
Maggie, Quezon City, Quipper
2. Proper adjectives
Philippines, Canadian, Asian
3. Days of the week
Monday, Wednesday, Sunday
4. Months of the year
August, September, Sunday
5. Specific course titles
Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There ( title of a book )
How I Met Your Mother ( title of a television series )
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants ( title of a movie )
8. Writing Sentences
Capitalize the first word of every sentence whether they
are declarative, interrogative, imperative, or exclamatory
sentences.
