Randy Rosenbloom
North Hollywood 1969
The voice of the LA City Section. If you have ever watched a LA City Section
championship event on television or on the internet, then you heard the
distinctive golden voice of Randy. The former All-East Valley League shot
putter at North Hollywood High School turned in his grunts for play-by-play calls
after graduation in 1969. Randy has announced over 150 championship games
on television in a variety of sports for the Section spanning three decades. His
unique and distinguishable voice has been heard on Prime Ticket, Spectrum,
Time Warner Cable, KCOP, KLCS, KDOC, L.A. 36 and the NFHS
Network covering all of the exciting City Section action. In addition to his work
in the City Section, Randy has called three Olympic games for NBC television,
UCLA basketball on ESPN and the USA Network, the Wimbledon
tennis championships, along with having called more than 30 college football
bowl games on national radio including 12 straight New Yearβs Day Outback Bowls. Randy

both in print and online. Eric was inducted into the Southern California Jewish

Jim Tunney
LAUSD 1951-1975
Regarded as the βDean of NFL Referees,β Jimβs illustrious 31-year career in the
National Football League has earned him a nomination to the Pro Football Hall
of Fame. From 1960 to 1990, Jim received a record 29 post-season
assignments, including 10 Championship games and Super Bowls VI, XI,
and XII and was named as an alternate in Super Bowl XVIII. Tunney's
trademark signal upon a successful field goal, or extra point, featured raising
his arms with fists clenched, then opening both fists simultaneously to indicate
the attempt as "good." Off the field, Tunney had a long career as an LAUSD
educator and school administrator. He began as a teacher in 1951 at Lincoln
High School, later becoming vice principal from 1959 to 1964. He then served
as a principal of Fairfax (1964-1971), Franklin (1972-1973), and Hollywood

Coaches Hall of Fame.
COACHES
Tony Dobra
San Pedro 1974
For 35 years, Tony Dobra brought excellence and respect to the sport of softball
while coaching at Mary Star of the Sea and San Pedro. A San Pedro High
School alumnus of 1974, he would come back to his alma mater to take over the
softball program in 1987, and from there, Pirate softball would skyrocket to
stardom. During his 29 years at the helm, Tony led San Pedro to 13 LA City
Section titles and 21 league championships. The run from 2000-09 was Dobraβs
best as he guided San Pedro to a decade of dominance that would be tough to
duplicate. His team reached the City Section title game every year, winning nine
championships in 10 appearances. Dobra was named the 2009 Cal-Hi Sports
State Coach of the Year after his Pirates capped off the decade with his 13th
City title. One of just five coaches in state history with 700 wins or more (735 to
be exact), Dobra officially retired last year after leading the Pirates to the Open
Division championship game, his 18th
finals appearance. Tony is also a member of the Los Angeles
Sportswalk of Fame in San Pedro.

We wish to thank the Hall of Fame committee members and the CIF LA
City Section staff who assisted with program planning and selection of
inductees. We also want to recognize the tireless efforts of Rick Obrand,
for his lifelong interest in recognizing notable persons in sports within the
CIF Los Angeles City Section, and whose efforts have made this event
possible. Congratulations to the Class of 2019!
