Beyond the Advance Presentation for By the Book 9John Rodzvilla
In June 2020, L.L. McKinney, a Black author of young adult novels, began the #publishingpaidme hashtag to create a discussion on how the publishing industry treats Black authors: “what they’re paid. What the marketing is. How the books are treated. How one Black book not reaching its parameters casts a shadow on all Black books and all Black authors, and that’s not the same for our white counterparts.” (Grady 2020) McKinney’s call resulted in an online discussion across 65,000 tweets between authors of all races and the creation of a Google spreadsheet that collected information on over 2,000 titles.
While the conversation was originally meant to discuss the ethical value of book publishing, it became an economic assessment by authors of how publishers treated authors of color and women authors without a full analysis of the data collected. This paper would present the data collected from relevant tweets and the Google database to show not only the range of advances among participating authors split out by their race, gender, sexual orientation and the genre of their work, but also the publishers’ treatment of their titles in terms of deal announcements and pre-pub attention in industry publications. The paper is based on a multi-year project of cleaning and evaluating the collected data to assess what it reveals about the habits and strategies of American publishers in acquiring and promoting titles from a diverse group of authors across the literary, non-fiction, children’s, mystery, romance, and SFF genres.

the tunnel that connected them were built to fit
inside NASA’S KC-135 Aircraft.

36. 1 Taken from Sir Weyland’s page on blog.ted.com
“Sir Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy
since he announced his intent to build the first
convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the
decade.
Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine
with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican
itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter
prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After
athree year media blackout, Weyland has finally
emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever
that may be, we will most certainly want to follow.”

using somebody’s farm, which he learned was
feasible from his producing of a 2013 movie. The
corn was then sold and actually made a profit.
Which movie, which also briefly featured cornfields?
60. Birdman director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has been
shying away from this comparison, going so far as to
call Rope by Alfred Hitchcock "a terrible film." He'd
much rather movie-lovers see his film's technical
inspiration as Russian Ark, the Alexander Sokurov film
set in the Russian State Hermitage Museum and shot as
__ __ _ ______ ___ . Inarritu called that film, "so
beautiful" that he almost cried at the end.
Both the Rope and the Russian Ark share similarities
with Birdman’s cinematography. What particular aspect?
For that matter, what is the difference between Birdman
and the Russian Ark in terms of this aspect?

Y’s first autobiography sought to distance himself
from the character he plays, hence the title “I am not
X”, published way back in 1975.
Noting the negative fan reactions to the title and
admitting his role having a significant influence in
his life, he released a second autoiography titled “I
am X” twenty years later.
