In today’s competitive environment, managing supply chains (SCs) is becoming increasingly challenging. Demand uncertainty, globalization, shorter product and technology lifespans, and growth in the number of logistics partners result in more sophisticated global supply relationships, which in turn, increase SC vulnerability. Generally, nervousness reduces SC effectiveness because SC instability is primarily caused by events that are external to the business domain. This tension creates uncertainty, increases the cost of maintaining supply chains, and makes relationships with suppliers and customers unpredictable. This study analyzed global SC nervousness (GSCN) components in terms of drivers, consequences, indicators, and pillars, and proposed solutions. A questionnaire was used to study and evaluate the characteristics of the GSCN, and the DELPHI–FAHP was used to analyze the results and designate the factors that most impact nervousness mitigation in the supply chain. To this end, ...

Supply chains are increasingly vulnerable to disruptions due to the complex and interconnected nature of global business operations. Supply chain nervousness (SCN) leads to inefficiencies and disruptions in the flow of goods and services. Managing SCN is critical for sustaining the continuity of business operations in today’s dynamic and uncertain business environment. To address this issue, this study proposes a strategic framework that integrates key components of supply chain nervousness management and establishes a robust framework that prioritizes these factors based on their relative importance. By incorporating the fuzzy-ELECTRE methodology into the analysis, the proposed framework acknowledges the inherent uncertainties and imprecisions present in supply chain disruptions. It offers a systematic and comprehensive approach to prioritizing and managing SCN factors, considering both qualitative and quantitative assessments. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed framewor...

Wheat has significantly impacted food security in numerous countries. Like the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Jordan’s daily diet contains a sizable amount of wheat. Further, Jordan is dealing with several issues, including rapid population growth, water scarcity, widespread urbanization, and limited agricultural wheat production. Thus, it imports most of its wheat and wheat products. Moreover, the method of selecting suppliers in Jordan is unique, as private importers import for the benefit of the government, and thus, the selection of suppliers is carried out by importers. This study aims to examine the various supplier selection approaches to determine Jordan’s primary wheat suppliers and rank them according to specified criteria. The fuzzy-VIKOR approach was used to assess, select, and rank the best wheat suppliers in Jordan. The findings suggest that Romania is the best supplier of wheat for Jordan. It is recognized as the most affordable and trustworthy supplier s...

With the great challenges that the latest pandemic (COVID-19) has imposed on manufacturing companies, the need to overcome and cope with such situations is becoming crucial. Supply chain resilience is one of the main aspects that enables manufacturers to cope with change and uncertainty; therefore, it is essential to develop the capabilities necessary to do so. This study aimed to ensure supply chain resilience in light of the COVID-19 pandemic through prioritizing main supply chain capabilities. After surveying (30) experts in supply chain from leading manufacturing companies in Jordan, a Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) analysis was conducted to prioritize main supply chain capabilities that were derived from the related literature. The results of this study showed that proactive capabilities, followed by reactive capabilities, were the most dominant capabilities that could ensure supply chain resilience, while efficiency-based capabilities were the least significant. There...

As part of the global supply chain (SC), Middle East and North Africa (MENA) SC is subject to many disruptions and instability resulting in an unpredicted interference among decisions causing SC nervousness (SCN). Nervousness reduces the efficiency and negatively impact the overall SC performance. Nervousness greatly effect supply chain stability and resilience leading to an increase in costs and fluctuation of the relationships with suppliers as well as customers. This research explores the supply chain nervousness (SCN) in MENA region. An investigation of the existing literature and interviews with the experts used to identify factors related to nervousness in the SC. This study was prompted by a lack of research depth to identify and investigate the main causes, effects, and measures, of SCN. A survey is used to analyze and asses the SCN in the region. A comprehensive framework of SCN in MENA region is presented and analyzed. The results identify the major sources, causes, and im...

Lean manufacturing (LM), by providing significant advancement in systems performance and efficiency, has recently come to a wide use in industrial environments. LM, providing tools that can target types of waste and improve various aspects of manufacturing systems implementation, uses the application of such tools to improve operational and financial aspects of organizations. Critical decisions with multiple contradictory criteria are associated with lean implementation (LI), leading to a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. A great deal of work has been directed toward understanding the decision-making process involved in LI process, but with little focus on the role of MCDM involving a LI chain. More than two hundred articles were reviewed and categorized, and the decision-making process as related to LI is structured into three main levels. First, the leanness level should be determined to describe the need for lean tools. Second, based on the leanness level, lean tools can be selected for implementation. Finally, appropriate parameters for the selected tools should be determined. The result of this categorization is a platform providing a comprehensive understanding of full-chain decision-making in LI. In general, adequate quality of decisions should be realized through all levels to ensure efficient LI.

The Coronavirus pandemic affected activities worldwide, among which the supply chain (SC) disruptions is significant. The impact is expected to affect businesses indefinitely; thus, the SC is unlikely to resume its pre‐COVID‐19 status. This study examines the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on SCs regarding its disruptions, associated challenges, and trend. It conducts an analysis of SCs stages, phases, and manifestations regarding the consequences, opportunities, and developments induced by the pandemic. A framework for the SC with COVID‐19 is presented towards a future global value chain and continuous improvements. It explores and connects the relevant elements to address the relations of SC‐COVID19 (SCC19). This study is novel as it identifies, categorises, and frames the essential factors and their interrelationships in a comprehensive framework. The SCC19 framework can be of value for decision‐makers and researchers, and can be generalised to other industries. Furthermore, study limitations and future research directions are discussed.

COVID-19 is a severe acute respiratory syndrome that mainly affects the human respiratory system. Unhealthy nutritional habits and obesity are expected as consequences of protective measures including quarantine. Obesity, in its growing prevalence, is a worldwide health issue associated with worsening health conditions. This is a cross-sectional study to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on obesity among Jordanian adults and across epidemiological statuses. Participants were randomly selected, and the survey was distributed on social media networking sites. A total of 672 subjects were surveyed and participated in the study between March and June 2021 via Google Form questionnaire. The results indicated that 74.4% of participants reported that they did not do any physical activity, and 43.5% changed their lifestyle and eating habits for the worse. During the COVID-19 pandemic, almost half of the participants reported an increase in hunger, consuming 3–4 meals/day, and consu...

Many companies utilize a number of complex product distribution networks to transport various types of goods. Most of their distribution networks consist of transporting goods from their suppliers to their Distribution Centers (DCs). In the process of transporting goods from suppliers to DCs, cross docking facilities are utilized to consolidate loads in order to minimize costs. A simulation model of a generic cross-docking facility (CF) was developed to examine the operational risks associated with individual CFs within a company’s distribution network under a dynamic environment. The model was tested and validated on a large cross-docking facility. In addition, it was used to examine the effect of increasing demand through the crossdocking facility. The model is generic and can easily be

ABSTRACT Integration and coordination of the informational and logistical functions of the supply chain have the potential to increase a company's competitiveness. In this paper, an integrated supply chain framework is developed that considers three main dimensions of information: customer demand, transportation, and inventory data. These dynamic supply chain data are integrated in an algorithm capable of producing high-quality, minimal cost solutions for the integrated supply chain system. The integrated supply chain model's primary goal is to react effectively and quickly to supply chain disruptions and changes, thereby adding unique flexibility to current supply chain decision support systems. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested in a dynamic environment by embedding it in the decision-making framework of a supply chain simulation model. Model results demonstrate the algorithm's ability both to improve system performance and to reduce total supply chain costs.Journal of Simulation (2009) 3, 84-94. doi:10.1057/jos.2008.22

The number of green energy options in different fields is growing because of the need for reducing energy consumption and eliminating gas emission. One of these options is the use of eco-friendly cars produced by various manufacturers. Given the many available options and conflicting evaluation criteria, evaluation of such options becomes complex, and different multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches have been used to select the most suitable car in terms of eco-friendly car selection. Previous research has been somewhat limited with respect to consideration of interdependencies between evaluation criteria and multi-levels of preference. This paper proposes a new integrated MCDM approach with the capability for considering interdependent criteria for eco-friendly car evaluation and different levels of preference. An analytic network process (ANP) will be used to evaluate the levels of importance of interdependent criteria, and ELECTRE III will be modeled to include threshol...
