Fritillaria karakocanensis (Liliaceae) is described as a new species from Turkey. It is morphologically similar to F. michailovskyi, F. reuteri and F. rhodocanakis, but differs from F. michailovskyi mainly by its longer stem, canaliculate and narrower leaves, papillose style, and the caducous tepals, from F. reuteri by its many bulblets, canaliculate leaves, longer lower leaves, fewer flowers, and longer tepals, and from F. rhodocanakis by its longer and narrower lower leaves, longer tepals, nectaries and style, and the obovoid capsule. A detailed taxonomic description, diagnostic characters, original photographs, geographical distribution, habitat and ecology, conservation assessment, and taxonomic comments regarding the new species are given.

This study investigated the antioxidant and anticancer properties, phenolic compounds, and content profile of Hypericum salsolifolium plant extracts prepared with different solvents. The total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and antioxidant potential [(2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), ferric reducing antioxidant power, and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity assays] of Hypericum salsolifolium extracts obtained using solvents of different polarities (hexane, dichloromethane, methanol, and water) were measured using spectrophotometric methods. Allium murat-sonayii Balos, Sonay & C. Çeçen is described as a new species from Elazığ Province, Eastern Türkiye. Diagnostic characteristics, a comprehensive description, photographs and a distribution map are provided. Based on morphological features, it belongs in Allium subgen. Allium sect. Allium. It is similar to A. stearnianum, A. stearnianum subsp. vanense, A. aybukeae, A. gemiciana, A. yamadagensis and A. dictyoprasum, but differs from them by several morphological characters, such as bulblets color, stem length, leaf, umbel shape, perigon colour, outer and inner tepal, anther colour, filaments and ovary.

The study aimed at the metabolite profiling and evaluation of antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory properties of methanol extracts from flowers, leaves, and tubers of unexplored Eminium intortum (Banks & Sol.) Kuntze and E. spiculatum (Blume) Schott (Araceae). A total of 83 metabolites, including 19 phenolic acids, 46 flavonoids, 11 amino, and 7 fatty acids were identified by UHPLC-HRMS in the studied extracts for the first time. E. intortum flower and leaf extracts had the highest total phenolic and flavonoid contents (50.82 ± 0.71 mg GAE/g and 65.08 ± 0.38 RE/g, respectively). Significant radical scavenging activity (32.20 ± 1.26 and 54.34 ± 0.53 mg TE/g for DPPH and ABTS) and reducing power (88.27 ± 1.49 and 33.13 ± 0.68 mg TE/g for CUPRAC and FRAP) were observed in leaf extracts. E. intortum flowers showed the maximum anticholinesterase activity (2.72 ± 0.03 mg GALAE/g). Bu çalışmada, Şanlıurfa merkez ilçesi olan Karaköprü’de yaşayan yöre halkının, gıda olarak tükettiği yabani bitkiler belirlenmiş ve kullanım biçimleri tespit edilmiştir. Amacımız, halkın yabani bitkilerden yararlanma biçimlerini araştırmak ve ülkemiz etnobotaniğine katkı sağlamaktır. Bu bitkiler, özellikle ilkbahar aylarında kırsal kesimde yaşayan insanlar tarafından toplanarak semt pazarlarına getirilmektedir. Bu bitkilerin bir kısmı çiğ veya pişirilerek taze tüketildiği gibi, bir kısmı dondurularak, kurutularak, salamura edilerek veya konserveye işlenerek de tüketilebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, 50 kaynak kişi ile birebir görüşmeler yapılmış, okullardaki öğrencilerden de destek alınmış ve Etnobotanik bilgi formları düzenlenmiştir. Toplamda 28 farklı familyaya ait 57 yabani bitkinin gıda amaçlı olarak kullanıldığı tespit edilmiştir.

A case of poisoning, accidentally eating the tuber of the Eminium intortum (Banks & Sol.) Kuntze plant by a 16-year-old young girl, is presented. Our patient while working in the field, eating a pieces of the tuber of a green leafy plant, complaining of a burning mouth in the mouth, excessive watering and shortness of breath, later applied to our Pediatric Emergency Department. After the initial evaluations, the poison hotline was called. In line with the recommendations, the patient was given activated charcoal with a nasogastric tube, vascular access was opened for fluid treatment, and routine blood tests were planned. Our case, who was conscious and whose vital signs were stable, was admitted to the pediatric health and diseases service. The case was discharged with full recovery after 6 days of observation and treatment. The aim of this study is to investigate the milk coagulation properties of some plants such as Biarum aleppicum, Biarum bovei and Arum rupicola belonging to the Aracea family, and to produce yoghurt with a natural method. In our study, the root tubers of the plants used in the coagulation of milk were sliced and the leaves were chopped directly. After the second repetition of the fermentation process and the second process, it was observed that the color of the yoghurt obtained was whiter, its fluidity was stronger, and its taste was sweeter. With this study, yoghurt-like sweet milk clot was obtained by using tubers and leaves of Biarum aleppicum, Biarum bovei, Arum rupicola plants, which were not used before.

Oak molasses, called “Gezo,” have been produced by the local people of Southeastern Anatolia. In this study, the ethnobotanical characteristics, production stages, health effects, and chemical composition of Gezo were determined. Traditional Gezo molasses is produced from the acorn of Quercus brantii Lindl. The survey was carried out in seven provinces with large populations. Molasses samples were collected from local producers in the region alongside the local names, usage, sorting, and grading methods used by the local people. The total contents of phenolics and flavanoids were found to vary between the range of 1.60–2.56 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE) and 0.62–0.72 mg rutin (RE) per g of Gezo molasses, respectively. Gezo displayed scavenging activity against DPPH radicals ranging from 7.57 to 9.44 µM Trolox/g. The CUPRAC assay results showed that molasses also possessed reducing power activity with a value of 8.57–10.20 µM Trolox/g. Gezo is typically consumed by local people as...

A check-list of the genus Biarum Schott in the Flora of Turkey is presented, with 10 taxa, of which 2 are endemic to Turkey. A list of taxonomical changes that have occurred since the publication of the Flora of Turkey, Supplement II is given. In addition, Biarum syriacum (Spreng.) H.Riedl is recorded for the first time (C6 Gaziantep) from Turkey. In this paper an expanded morphological description of this species is provided. Moreover, an image of a type specimen, a photograph of a plant from the field, an illustration of a plant, and a distribution map are presented.

Saptanan taksonlarin 6'si endemiktir. Iran-Turan elementleri 93 takson (% 31.1) sayisi ile ilk sirada yer almaktadir. Akdeniz elementleri 36 (% 12), Avr.-Sib. elementleri 5 (% 1.7) ve Sahra-Sina elementleri 1 (% 0.3) taksona sahiptir. Ayrica 164 takson cok bolgeli veya bilinmeyenler grubuna girmektedir. Alanin florasinda Fabaceae (49), Asteraceae (38) ve Brassicaceae (18) takson ile en fazla takson iceren familyalardir. Astragalus L. (8), Trifolium L. (7) ve Vida L. Bazılarına halk tarafından sadece yöresel isim verilmiş olup, bu bitkilerin herhangi bir etnobotanik kullanımı bulunmadığı tespit edilmiştir
