Background: Shell evolution can impact the structure of the nuclei and lead to effects such as shape coexistence. The nuclei around $^{68}$Ni represent an excellent study case, however, spectroscopic information of the neutron-rich, $Z<28$ nuclei is limited. Purpose: The goal is to measure $γ$-ray transitions in $^{66}$Fe, $^{66}$Co and $^{66}$Ni populated in the $β^-$ decay of $^{66}$Mn, to determine absolute $β$-feedings and relative $γ$-decay probabilities and to compare the results with Monte Carlo Shell Model calculations in order to study the influence of the relevant single neutron and proton orbitals occupancies around $Z=28$ and $N=40$. Method: The low-energy structures of $^{65,66}$Fe, $^{66}$Co and $^{66}$Ni were studied in the $β^-$ decay of $^{66}$Mn produced at ISOLDE, CERN. The beam was purified by means of laser resonance ionization and mass separation. The $β$ and $γ$ events detected by three plastic scintillators and two MiniBall cluster germanium detectors, respectively, were correlated in time to build the low-energy excitation schemes and to determine the $β$-decay half-lives of the nuclei. Results: The relative small $β$-decay ground state feeding of $^{66}$Fe obtained in this work is at variant to the earlier studies. Spin and parity $1^+$ was assigned to the $^{66}$Co ground state based on the strong ground state feeding in the decay of $^{66}$Fe as well as in the decay of $^{66}$Co. Experimental log(ft) values, $γ$-ray deexcitation patterns and energies of excited states were compared to Monte Carlo Shell Model calculations. Based on this comparison, spin and parity assignments for the selected number of low-lying states in the $^{66}$Mn to $^{66}$Ni chain were proposed. Conclusions: The $β$-decay chain starting $^{66}$Mn towards $^{66}$Ni, crossing $N=40$, evolves from deformed nuclei to sphericity...

The excited states of the proton emitter $^{151}$Lu were reinvestigated in a recoil-decay tagging experiment at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä (JYFL). The level scheme built on the ground state of $^{151}$Lu was updated with five new $γ$-ray transitions. Large-scale shell model calculations were carried out to interpret the experimental level scheme. It is found that the excitation energies of states above the $27/2^-$ and $23/2^+$ isomeric levels can be sensitive to excitations from $g_{7/2}$ and $d_{5/2}$ to single-particle orbitals above $N=Z=64$.

The quenching of the experimental spectroscopic factor for proton emission from the short-lived $d_{3/2}$ isomeric state in $^{151m}$Lu was a long-standing problem. In the present work, proton emission from this isomer has been reinvestigated in an experiment at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. The proton-decay energy and half-life of this isomer were measured to be 1295(5) keV and 15.4(8) $μ$s, respectively, in agreement with another recent study. These new experimental data can resolve the discrepancy in the spectroscopic factor calculated using the spherical WKB approximation. Using the R-matrix approach it is found that the proton formation probability indicates no significant hindrance for the proton decay of $^{151m}$Lu.

In-gas-cell laser ionization spectroscopy studies on the neutron deficient 97-101Ag isotopes have been performed with the LISOL setup. Magnetic dipole moments and mean-square charge radii have been determined for the first time with the exception of 101Ag, which was found in good agreement with previous experimental values. The reported results allow tentatively assigning the spin of 97,99Ag to 9/2 and confirming the presence of an isomeric state in these two isotopes, whose collapsed hyperfine structure suggests a spin of 1/2 . The effect of the N=50 shell closure is not only manifested in the magnetic moments but also in the evolution of the mean-square charge radii of the isotopes investigated, in accordance with the spherical droplet model predictions.

Four generations of a radioactivities have been correlated with 173Aum leading to a measurement of the a decay of 161Tam. It has been found that the known a decay of 161Ta, which was previously associated with the decay of the ground state, is in fact the decay of an isomeric state. This work also reports on the first observation of prompt g rays feeding the ground state of 173Au. This prompt radiation was used to aid the study of the a-decay chain originating from the s1/2 state in 173Au. Three generations of a decays have been correlated with this state leading to the observation of a previously unreported activity which is assigned as the decay of 165Reg. This work also reports the excitation energy of an a-decaying isomer in 161Ta and the Q-value of the decay of 161Tag.

Low-energy excited states in 71,73Ni populated via the β decay of 71,73Co were investigated in an experiment performed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) at Michigan State University (MSU). Detailed analysis led to the construction of level schemes of 71,73Ni, which are interpreted using systematics and analyzed using shell model calculations. The 5/2- states attributed to the the f5/2 orbital and positive parity 5/2+ and 7/2+ states from the g9/2 orbital have been identified in both 71,73Ni. In 71Ni the location of a 1/2- β-decaying isomer is proposed and limits are suggested as to the location of the isomer in 73Ni. The location of positive parity cluster states are also identified in 71,73Ni. Beta-delayed neutron branching ratios obtained from this data are given for both 71,73Co.

The absolute branching ratios for these channels were determined to be 81(4)%, 7.1(4)%, and 0.08(3)%, respectively. The 43Cr is thus established as the second case in which the beta-3p decay occurs. Although the feeding to the proton-bound states in 43V is expected to be negligible, the large branching ratio of 12(4)% for decays without proton emission is found.

When going to lighter masses, a surprisingly large and early departure from sphericity is observed, which is only partly reproduced by Beyond Mean Field calculations.

We find that the spins of the ground state (J = 7=2) and first excited state (J = 5=2) in 101Sn are reversed with respect to the traditional level ordering postulated for 103Sn and the heavier tin isotopes. Through simple arguments and state-of-the-art shell model calculations we explain this unexpected switch in terms of a transition from the single-particle regime to the collective mode in which orbital-dependent pairing correlations, dominate.
