This volume examines contemporary Eastern European youth cultures from an interdisciplinary perspective, investigating how the radical changes resulting from the demise of state Socialisms and concurrent increased globalization processes have resulted in huge challenges for young people and a reimagining of youth itself.

The conference is organized by the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague, in particular by the research team working on grant research “The Sources and Forms of Politicization of Subcultures in Post-Socialism” supported by Czech Science Foundation.

What is the reality of the post-socialist subcultures? How it is related to social transformations and the transfer of subcultural inspirations from the West? What is the relationship between music subcultures and the politics? How do the particular subcultures identify themselves as political? What is their interaction with the society at large? What is the nature of internal relations within the music subcultures?  Is there Abstract proposals covering these and related topics are encouraged to be submitted for the international, interdisciplinary conference.

The aim of the conference is to open a discussion on the specific conditions of post-socialism in relation to music subcultures and to create an interdisciplinary network of scholars working in this field. Selected papers will be included in the book project related to the issue.
