Virtual Reality (VR) and educational games are emerging technologies mediating a rapid transformation in the educational world. However, few studies have systematically analyzed Educational Virtual Reality Games (EVRGs) and how they have been applied in educational settings. This study reviewed 31 articles published in high impact journals and educational conference proceedings to unravel thetechnological, pedagogical, and gaming characteristics of contemporaryEVRGs. The results show the predominance of Oculus Rift headsets and HTC Vive as the main technology used in EVRGs. Moreover, the analysis revealed that the pedagogical application of the majority of EVRGs was developed for all levels of education (e.g. tertiary, K-12, lifelong learning), with the specific target audience of each game based on the desired learning outcome. Furthermore, the application of EVRGs has primarily focused on out of class use, with healthcare education topics dominating the topics taught using EVRGs. ...

This paper investigates the impact of puzzle-based learning technique (PbLT) for teaching introductory programming in the context of Nigeria. The participants in the study were computer science students at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria. The study adopted the quantitative research method. The study shows that PbLT has a positive impact on the students' understanding of introductory programming. In addition, the students confirmed that MobileEdu-Puzzle learning application was supportive and easy to use. Nonetheless, the result revealed that information technology infrastructure especially internet connectivity is a major challenge that may hinder the use of mobile learning technologies such as MobileEdu-puzzle. The overall outcome shows that PbLT holds a lot of promise towards enhancing students learning experiences.

Social media has become an important platform where users share, comment, discuss, communicate, interact, and play games. Aside from using social media for personal, social, and business purposes, the use of social media has gained attention, particularly for collaborative learning in the educational sector. This paper examines the role of social media in computing education based on the use of WhatsApp social media group. Additionally, the study explores how social media usage by students influences their perceived learning outcomes. Given these aims, the study formulated four research hypotheses and tested using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling. With the participants of three hundred and thirteen (n=313) students, the study found a positive relationship between social media usage for computing education and perceived learning outcomes. In addition, the study found a linear relationship between communication ingroup and perceived learning outcomes. Finally, the st...

In this study, we examined articles focused on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) implemented in the sub-Saharan African (SSA) Higher Education context that describes the different models of MOOCs enacted as an initiative to provide access and opportunity to acquire quality higher education across different disciplines within the sub-region. In addition, the review aims to identify those factors that facilitate or inhibit the success and growth of MOOCs in the SSA context to understand how MOOCs has fared between the time 2012 to 2021. Based on this premise, 30 articles were included in the review in accordance with the authors’ set criteria. Results revealed that there are very few collaborations, linkages, and relations between MOOCs researchers in SSA, similarly there is a slow growth of MOOCs production, Narrative, Conceptual and Discourse analysis are the dominant analytical methods, while the perennial challenges of poor internet connectivity, lack of policy framework, poor b...

The entire globe is battling the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, which has caused a downward spiral in many nations' economies, particularly in the higher education contexts. A growing number of universities have either postponed or cancelled academic activities. A few universities have intensified measures to prevent face-to-face interactions, intending to protect staff members and students from this highly contagious disease. This study investigates the COVID-19 impact on the higher education sector in Nigeria. Interview sessions involving seven lecturers across five universities in three geographical locations of Nigeria were conducted. The interview data were gathered using digital applications, such as Zoom cloud meetings and Skype, transcribed into a textual format, and further analysed. Six themes with corresponding sub-themes emerged from the study. In the final analysis, results revealed that COVID-19 negatively impacted several universities. This study p...

Students’ satisfaction and perceived learning outcomes are critical determinants of the effectiveness of a learning system and provide the needed competitive edge at the end of the learning experience. While studies are bound that examined these factors within e-Learning systems in disparate contexts, there are few literatures that investigated the variability within the population based on the e-Learning experiences and the employment status of the students. Therefore, in this study, we developed an integrated model and utilized it to investigate the critical predictive factors (CPFs) that promote students' satisfaction and perceived learning outcome within an e-Learning environment in a developing context, specifically Nigeria. In addition, the study examined the moderating effects of e-Learning experience and employment status on students’ satisfaction and perceived learning within the e-Learning system. 267 responses were received from a Google form shared link together with...

The idea for this paper was propelled and came about as a result of the significance of adolescents who constitute the highest population in secondary schools. The developmental level of the learner as an adolescent and his/her role is instrumental to the general growth and development of the society. Delinquency and deviant behaviour among youth is not uncommon as it has extended into institutions of learning especially at the secondary school level. This paper examines the causes, patterns and effects of such behaviours and discover among other things that the causes are numerous and not in any way limited to secondary schools but distributed among other social units such as family, peers etc. Also such behaviour involves both boys and girls which on the whole affect teaching and learning negatively. © 2013 Sjournals. Medical education in Africa is in desperate need of reforms, evident in widespread diseases, and an inability to mobilise and train the required medical workforce to deal with these health issues. However, the exponential rise in the use of mobile technologies due to the spread of the Internet and increased telecommunication networks offer an opportunity for the transformation of medical education and practice through the deployment of mobile devices as a medium for learning and conveying health care services to the remote and resource-constrained locations of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This paper reviewed articles on the affordances of m-learning for distributed medical education in SSA published between 2010-2018. Results from 18 articles identified in the review revealed a slow-paced ascendancy of practice and research in the field; it further exposed competing priorities, infrastructural deficit, and chronic workforce shortages as the bane of m-learning implementation in the subr...
