Food waste valorization practices have gained considerable attention focusing on the conversion of the waste into valuable products. In this context, the present study provides an insight into a new Eudragit® RS 100 based nanosystem as a carrier of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) seeds oil known for its an antidiabetic activity. A priori a systematic study was carried out in order to understand the individual impact of all contributing factors considered by the nanoprecipitation method. Then, date seeds oil nanoparticles were prepared, characterized and analyzed for their in vitro inhibition activity against: alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase. The results showed that the developed nanoparticles had an average diameter around 207 nm, a ζ-potential of +59 mV and encapsulation efficiency equal to 97 ±1% with a loading capacity of 0.48mg.mg-1. The alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase IC50 were found to be 87.6 and 155.3 µg.mL-1, respectively. Therefore, this study may surely open new perspectives for the development of novel health-promoting plant oils loaded-nanocarriers for several purposes.

The hydrothermal karstic of Constantine is the effect of an intense fracturation in the lime stone formation since the Mesozoic. The great number of the thermal springs, belonging Hamma Bouziane (Constantine), at times, with a very high flow rate such as Ain Zouaoui (800 l/s in Hamma Bouziane), constitute the outlet of the open complex aquifer kar stic. The fracturation (regenerated in the field of the active tectonic distortion in Plio - Quaternary) of the made flushing carbonated Jurassic and cretaceous are in appearance the only way to supply the aquifer (infiltration of rainwater and loss of Rhume l and Bou Merzoug). However the results of the chemical analysis, carried out on some samples of water, have furnished signs (low correlation between Na and Cl species) which showed circulation of waters inside a neogen formation of sedimentation according the continental lagoon. This situation means that neogen deposits would make up with carbonate, an infiltration zone of the karstic...

The environment is considered as a composite term for the condition in which organisms live. Pollution of the environment is one of the most fatal ecological crisis to which we are subjected today. Earlier these amenities were pure, undisturbed and uncontaminated for living organisms. But situation is reverse today. The impurities present in water are threat to life. The impurities present in water and wastewater is decisive factor for selection of treatment scheme. Impurities are present in water in dissolved and suspended form. The suspended impurities present in water are non- biodegradable in nature. So it is necessary to remove suspension in water and wastewater. The coagulation-flocculation method is sustainable solution for different kind of surface water, ground water, synthetic water and industrial effluents. In conventional method, inorganic coagulants are used for coagulation-flocculation. But major drawbacks are high dosage of inorganic coagulants, poor results and large quantities of sludge generation. So, organic polyelectrolytes were introduced in conjunction with inorganic coagulants for the treatment of water and wastewater.

The present study deals with the determination of optimal values of operating parameters such as temperature and pressure leading to the best yield of a supercritical CO2 extraction of essential oil from local rosemary plants, using the response surface methodology (RSM). The maximum of essential oil recovery percentage relative to the initial mass of leaf powder was 3.52 wt%, and was obtained at 313 K and 22 MPa. A second-order polynomial was used to express the oil recovery and the calculated mass of recovered oil using the RSM was very close to the experimental value, confirming the reliability of this technique. The chemical composition of the Algerian rosemary oil under the obtained optimal conditions (313 K and 22 MPa), determined by GC-MS analysis, revealed the presence of camphor (major compound) (52.12%), 1,8-cineole (9.65%), camphene (7.55%), alpha-pinene (6.05%), borneol (3.52%), aroma dendrene (2.11%), verbenone (1.97%), alpha-caryophyllene (1.71%), and others. Abstract The last decade has witnessed an extensive use of biodegradable and biocompatible polymers for biomedical applications. Concerning drug delivery the use of such polymers is of high importance among other types of polymers. The encapsulation of active molecules within a polymeric nanostructure yields many benefits such as enhanced drug bioavailability, sustained drug release, heightened drug efficiency, and a better control of drug targeting that by its turn are able to reduce the toxicity and side effects of the encapsulated molecule. In addition, encapsulation can protect the drug from natural barriers after administration, which permits a better control of the disease. In this work the preparation of polymeric nanocontainers was discussed, from the preparation methods used to their applications. Moreover, several methods for tweaking the particles were highlighted, the targeting strategies of the drug, and the effect of particles on the biodistribution was examined.

The present review deals with water applications in sub and supercritical conditions with a focus on supercritical water oxidation process (SCWO) as an example of high temperature and pressure technologies. It starts by presenting the advantages of water properties near and beyond the critical point and the major applications exploiting them. Then, it presents a review on SCWO from the description of the process, the reaction mechanism and kinetics to reactor design and modeling. It also presents the main problems and difficulties that delay the SCWO industrial application, and summarizes the main efforts and research to overcome them for a safe, efficient and economic process.

Biodiesel is a promising alternative fuel to diesel; it is produced by the transesterification reaction of fatty acids present in plant oil using basic catalytic reaction. The use of frying oil as a feedstock of the transesterification reduces the raw material cost and eliminates an important waste. In addition to the renewable nature of the alternative fuel, the process of its production must be as environmentally friendly as possible. Therefore, the aim of this work is to estimate the green chemistry balance of a transesterification reaction of waste frying soybean oil collected from university restaurants, using methanol and KOH as a catalyst.Indeed, the green chemistry metrics measuring aspects of a chemical reaction, in relation to the principles of green chemistry are calculated. Carbon efficiency, atom economy, environmental factor, reaction mass efficiency, material recovery parameter, toxicity and stoechiometric factor are calculated, and the green chemistry balance of the reaction is estimated as 64.44%. Recycling the recovered excess methanol and the wash water improves this balance by 18.35%.

Abstract Two main hydrothermal processes are dealt with in this chapter: (1) hydrothermal liquefaction, that is, a combination of thermal depolymerization and a recombination process under moderate temperature ( 374°C and 220 bar), since it is a highly exothermal process that releases a huge amount of heat and generates clean effluents. Both processes are under study to manage their scaling up as alternatives to other conventional processes (pyrolysis, incineration, biological treatments, etc.) for the treatment of different materials: cellulose, agrifood wastes, surfactants, and others. Hydrothermal technologies require rather short residence times (no more than a few minutes in any case) and can be applied to the production of both sustainable energy and valuable chemicals. Based on the studies that can be found in the literature, we intend to present some of the key points of these promising technologies and also its development status worldwide.

Supercritical water oxidation may be used as waste treatment technique that consists of oxidizing organic and inorganic matter using water at supercritical conditions. It was developed as an alternative technique in order to limit the risks of secondary pollution. The purpose of this study is the development of simulation tools in stationary state in supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) tubular reactor which has been numerically investigated basing on using a two-dimensional modeling approach applying the k-ε turbulence model, and on the international association for the properties of water and steam formulation (IAPWS-IF97). A Multiphysics simulation using Comsol Multiphysics 5.2 software for the supercritical water oxidation of “cutting oil Biocut 35” as a pollutant is reported. First, the heat transfer coefficient was estimated and the obtained temperature and species concentration profiles were compared to experimental data where a quite good agreement was obtained as confirmed ...

An experimental extraction of Algerian date stones oil was carried out using supercritical carbon dioxide. Response surface methodology was used to investigate the effect of pressure (150–250 bar), temperature (313–333 K) and particles diameter (0.3–0.9 mm) on the extraction yield. The comparison of the predicted results with the experimental values confirmed the reliability of this technique. The optimum yield value was determined around 14.26% and was obtained at a pressure of 250 bar, a temperature of 333 K and particles diameter of 0.3 mm. the conventional solvent extraction using Soxhlet apparatus shows that the oil content of the date stones sample was about 16.22%. The fatty acids composition was determined using GC‐FID analysis, showing that the oleic acid was the major compound present in this oil. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Locally date stones are an abundant waste product of date processing industries which are rich in many valuables substances such as carbohydrates, oil, dietary fibers, vitamins, proteins, bioactive polyphenols and natural antioxidants, making them an attractive source for the extraction of bioactive compounds because of their low cost and high nutrient content. They can be used in many applications like the production of caffeine‐free coffee, food products formulation, cosmetics, and functional and medicinal supplements. They are a by‐product that can be easily collected and recycled in an economic and sustainable way. Also date stones oil is a great source of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acid acids which have several good human health benefits. The use of supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of date stones oil can be regarded as a great opportunity to develop the production of high quality date stones oil and exploit all the mentioned important properties.
