Digital entrepreneurship is constantly evolving with the exponential growth of social platforms. Instagram (IG) is one of those social platforms advancing digital entrepreneurship, however, little has been documented on the role of Instagram in entrepreneurship. This chapter explores Instagram’s role in promoting digital entrepreneurship, addressing its history, relevance and challenges in Africa. It contributes crucial information on how Instagram has been used in Africa to advance digital entrepreneurship and how it has attracted more nonconventional entrepreneurs as it lends itself to its versatile functionality. In Africa, Instagram has been used to promote agriculture, tourism, art, health and political economy among others. The popularity of IG for digital entrepreneurship is attributed to the introduction of smartphones as well as the low setup and operating costs yet strong ability to connect globally. Furthermore, we present a conceptual framework to exemplify Instagram’s importance in the production and marketing of spices in Zanzibar. Policy prescriptions are also recommended on the promotion of appropriate use of Instagram in Africa.

Trade between Africa and Brazil has seen tremendous growth over the years, amidst continued challenges. This increase in trade has been partly attributed to the fostering of political relations between the two regions. However, the concentration and structure of trade between the regions need to improve. Imports from Brazil have been mainly in resource-intensive manufactured goods and technological products whilst the bulk of exports into Brazil are primary resources and products. Trading pattern of this nature tends to put African nations at a disadvantage as primary goods are susceptible to shocks. Political and cultural partnerships have contributed to deepening the ties between Brazil and Africa, thereby increasing the exchange and transfer of knowledge. This relationship could be further strengthened if the two regions can focus on enhancing infrastructure development and trade facilitation. Future trade agreements should therefore endeavour to develop policies that will create...

ABSTRACT
Social media platforms have transformed entrepreneurial activities. These social platforms are used for communication and marketing, connecting current and prospective customers to service providers, and connecting and engaging marketers to end users. Instagram is one of the fastest growing and most popular social platforms for socialization, personal indulgence, and information and product sharing. Based on this premise, it is important to understand the role that Instagram plays in digital entrepreneurship. In order to have a better understanding of the socioeconomic implications of the use of social media, this article analyzed secondary and primary data, direct and participant observations, and inductive reasoning. It presents Instagram's visual power and high number of followers, which enhance sales and attract a new set of entrepreneurs who would otherwise be disadvantaged as a result of cultural, economic, and political barriers.

Access to safe, aff ordable and nutritious food is an obstacle facing many Indigenous people in the inner city of Winnipeg, which is known for having vast food deserts. While food security is an urgent social, economic, cultural and health issue for Indigenous people in urban areas, and particularly those living in inner city areas, there are some unique elements of food security related to cultural values. Access to cultural food in urban communities is a challenge for Indigenous people. Th is paper discusses the results of some preliminary research conducted which explored the experiences and meanings associated with Indigenous cultural food for Indigenous people living in urban communities and the larger goals of what is being called "Indigenous Food Sovereignty" (IFS) with regards to cultural food specifi cally. When Indigenous people have the skills to practice IFS, a whole range of positive benefi ts to their social and economic well-being can unfold. Th ree themes w...

This paper analyzed the entrepreneurial level of microentrepreneurs in Nigeria using the basis of whether those who belong to groups where there is interdependence like the Cooperative Thrift and Credit Societies have better personal agency belief than those who are not members. The results show that entrepreneurial alertness is predicated upon being a member of Cooperative Thrift and Credit society. The same result also prevails, after taking into consideration pre-existing conditions like age, education and gender.   Key words: Personal agency belief, perceived self efficacy, locus of control, cooperative thrift and credit society; entrepreneurship.

Culture, acquired taste and past experiences, shape immigrants’ food preferences and acculturation inclination. As people migrate from Africa, South Asia and China to Canada, Toronto’s food landscape has been transformed. This migration pattern has led to a situation where unfortunately some immigrants have become food insecure, because their preferred foods have not been available as they have become increasingly dependent on inexpensive, lower nutritional foods that are available through food banks and mainstream grocery stores. This situation is particularly common for relatively deprived, refugee path immigrants (RPI). There is therefore a need for policies that will strengthen the value chain of culturally appropriate, quality foods which enhance their food sovereignty. This paper presents the outcome of our fieldwork (2015–2016) examining the preferences and economic characteristics of Somalis in the GTA. Data collection involved direct observation, participant observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and structured questionnaires. Our results indicate that Somalis integrate best when they are involved, as active stakeholders, in the food value chain and are given the opportunity to explore their entrepreneurial abilities connected to their culturally preferred value chains.

shape people’s food preferences (Adekunle et.
al, 2010, 2011, and 2012) and their willingness
to acculturate in a new country. As people are
forced to migrate from Africa, South Asia and
Middle East to Canada, there is a need to ensure
that they are not worse off in their new
country. This is necessary because the prevailing
migration pattern causes some people to
live with food insecurity. Often the foods they
consume in their respective countries are not
available, making people dependent on inexpensive,
less nutritional foods that are available
through food banks or mainstream grocery
stores. This situation affects the different
cultural groups that have migrated to Winnipeg,
especially those living in the Inner City
and North End. Based on this premise, there
is a need for policies that will strengthen the
value chain of culturally appropriate foods in
    terms of sovereignty, accessibility, availability
    and quality.

This paper presents an analysis of 481 landowners’ self-administered questionnaires from recent surveys in five southern Ontario watersheds. Farmers opposed “excessive” regulation but wanted government financial support for implementing environmental practices voluntarily. Logistic regression models for adoption rate and gross sales helped identify the variables that predicted the Adoption Rate Index (ARI) and Gross Farm Sales (GFS). Farm size, the adoption rate of best management practices, age and education predicted gross farm sales for combined data sets. Minimum regulations, financial incentives, outreach and technical support for voluntary programs geared to different farm types and sizes are needed for effective environmental management. This paper examines the factors that affect the adoption of best management practices (BMPs) in Southern Ontario watersheds using both qualitative and quantitative techniques. A sample of 164 farmers was analyzed and triangulated with the results from in-depth interviews. The results suggest that farm and personal characteristics affect the adoption rate of BMPs and there should be financial incentives in order to create an enabling environment that will encourage the adoption of BMPs.

The multifaceted nature of agricultural innovation makes it evident that technological, industrial, human and economic
factors define and redefine agricultural innovation within new cultural and technological contexts. Juxtaposing the
African condition to the earlier understanding of the cross-cultural dimensions of agricultural innovation, this paper
proposes that technological insufficiencies in Africa shall necessitate the creation of an enabling environment which
utilises an indigenous approach to agricultural innovation. Agricultural innovation ought to use intellectual capital based
on human potential and indigenous approaches to enhance long term economic growth in the African context especially
in the area of trade liberalisation and agricultural exports both within the region and outside the continent of Africa.
