The purpose of this experimental study is to identify the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and efficacy of intralesional injection as an application method on acute cutaneous wounds in dogs. Healthy adult beagle dogs (n=3) were used in this study. Autologous PRP was separated from anticoagulant treated whole blood in 3 dogs. Cutaneous wounds were created and treated with intralesional injection of PRP in experimental group while treated with saline in control group, on day 0, 2 and 4. Gross examination during whole period and histologic examination on day 7, 14 and 21 were performed to evaluate healing process. In PRP treated wounds, mean diameter of wounds was smaller and wound closure rate was higher than control. In histological study, PRP treated wounds showed more granulation formation and angiogenesis on day 7, and faster epithelialization, more granulation formation and collagen deposition were observed on day14 than control wounds. On day 21, collagen deposition a...

An experimental study was performed to measure a ice concentration of ice slurry flowing in a pipe in a real time. In the present paper, we suggested a measuring method by a refractive index and compared it to other methods by a freezing point and a density. To measure the refractive index of the solution, ice particles in the ice slurry should be completely removed and a hydro-cyclone was introduced instead of a mesh. The measuring method through the refractive index coincided with the density method using the real-time solution density within error range, having the error range less than the other two methods. In the other hand, the measuring method through the density has a good resolution, but the result using the initial density of the solution was different more than 10% error from that using the real-time density. And it has an error range 1.5 times greater than the method through the refractive index.

Silver plays an important part in severe wound management, mainly by reducing microbial growth within dressed wounds and wound beds. However, it is unknown how silver-coated dressing materials affect diabetic wounds. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of silver-containing dressing materials for the treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected wounds in streptozotocininduced diabetic rats. Full-thickness skin defects were created on the backs of rats with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes (n = 108) and were infected with MRSA. The rats were assigned to 6 groups according to the wound dressing used: nanocrystalline silver (Acticoat, Smith & Nephew, Inc, London, UK), silver carboxymethylcellulose (Aquacel-Ag, ConvaTec, Skillman, NJ), silver sulfadiazine (Medifoam silver, Genewel Science Co Ltd, Seongnam, South Korea), nanocrystalline silver (Poly- Mem silver, Ferris Mfg Corp, Burr Ridge, IL), silver sulfadiazine (Ilvadon, Ildong Pharma...

In this study, the use of canine experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) as a disease model for necrotizing encephalitis (NE) was assessed. Twelve healthy dogs (1-4 years old; 4.5-13.1 kg; 3 females/9 males; 9 Beagles/1 Schnauzer/2 Mongrels) were used in this study as experimental models. Canine forebrain tissue (8 g), including white and grey matter, were homogenized with 4 mL of phosphate-buffered saline for 5 min in an ice bath. The suspension was emulsified with the same volume of Freund's Complete Adjuvant containing 1 mg/mL of killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra. Under sedation, each dog was injected subcutaneously with canine brain homogenate over 4 sites, with 2 in the inguinal and 2 in the axillary regions. A second injection (booster shot) was performed with the same procedure 7 days after the first injection in all dogs. Clinical assessments, magnetic resonance imaging, cerebrospinal fluid analyses, necropsies, and histopathological and immunohistochemical...

A 50-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital due to multiple lung nodules detected incidentally on a chest X-ray. A video-assisted thoracoscopic lung biopsy revealed low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LG-ESS). She had undergone a simple hysterectomy one year earlier owing to a diagnosis of adenomyosis. A review of her previous hysterectomy specimen showed not endometriosis but LG-ESS. According to the patient's levels of serum FSH and estradiol, she was in the pre-menopausal state with retained and normally functioning ovaries. She then underwent ovarian ablation by radiotherapy, after which she was administered 2.5 mg of letrozole once per day. Three months later, the size of the metastatic nodules in both lungs had decreased. The patient was followed up for 24 months while continuing on letrozole, and maintained a partial remission. We report herein on a case of metastatic LG-ESS treated with letrozole after ovarian ablation by radiotherapy.

An 8-year-old intact male Belgian Malinois, weighing 37.2 kg, was referred for evaluation due to right side facial paresis, ataxia and a 2-month history of decreased cognitive ability. Physical and neurological examinations revealed mild depression, left-sided head tilt, right-sided facial paresis and ataxia. A well-demarcated, broad-based cerebellar mass and hyperostosis were found on CT imaging of the brain. Based on these CT findings, a cerebellar meningioma was strongly suspected. Hydroxyurea and prednisolone were administered; after 4 weeks, there was reduction in mass size as compared to initial CT results. However, the mass size was found to have grown 6 weeks after hydroxyurea treatment. We then prescribed a combination of imatinib mesylate and hydroxyurea. Two weeks following combination treatment, the mass size had reduced significantly. The mass continuously decreased in size until the patient died during anesthesia. Cerebellar transitional meningioma was confirmed by histopathologic examination. To the author's knowledge, this is the first reported case of imatinib mesylate plus hydroxyurea therapy for the treatment of meningioma in veterinary medicine.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to merge clinical information from various neurological patients of the Gyeongsang National University Animal Medical Center during the study period (from Jan.2008 to Jan.2012). Total 172 cases of neurological disorders were diagnosed and treated in the study period. Evaluated criteria of this study were breed, age, sex, clinical signs, and diagnosis. Physical examination, neurological examination, complete blood count, serum chemistry profile, radiography, ultrasonography, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and electroencephalography (EEG) were performed on the basis of individual cases. Among all of 172 dogs, 78 dogs (45.3%) were diagnosed with meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology (MUE); 38 dogs (22.0%) were intervertebral disk disease (IVDD); 15 dogs (8.7%) were idiopathic epilepsy; 13 dogs (7.5%) were hydrocephalus; 5 dogs (2.9%) were brain tumor; and the remainder was diagnosed with miscellaneous diseases. The canine neurological disease model is very useful to understand human neurological disease because the dog is structurally and functionally similar to the human and have same natural neurological diseases as human based on this study. Thus, we hope that this study could help to develop the canine neurological disease model.

A 4-year-old female Maltese (case 1), a 9-year-old castrated male shih tzu (case 2) and 2-year-old female Pomeranian (case 3) presented with neurological signs, such as head tilt, ataxia, circling and paresis. The three cases were tentatively diagnosed as having meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology based on computed tomography scan and cerebrospinal fluid analysis. All patients were managed with cyclosporine plus prednisolone therapy. The survival times of the three patients were 170, 70 and 21 days, respectively. After the cases died, we performed necropsy and histopathological examination for definitive diagnosis. Based on the necropsy, histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations, cases 1, 2 and 3 were definitely diagnosed as having necrotizing meningoencephalitis, necrotizing leukoencephalitis and granulomatous meningoencephalitis, respectively. This case report demonstrated the clinical findings, brain CT characteristics and histopathological and immunohistochemical features of NME, NLE and GME in dogs and discussed the reason for the relatively short survival times under cyclosporine plus prednisolone therapy.

ABSTRACT Multi heat pumps have been widely used in buildings due to their higher energy efficiency. Recently, demands for multi-functional heat pumps, which can provide heating, cooling, and water heating in a building, have been increased. In this study, a cascade multi-functional heat pump, combining a multi heat pump using R410A for air heating with a water heating unit using R134a for hot water supply, was investigated experimentally. The performance of the cascade multi-functional heat pump was measured by varying the refrigerant charge amount, EEV opening, water flow rate, and water inlet temperature. Test results were compared with those of a single-stage multi-functional heat pump using R410A for air and water heating. The cascade multi-functional heat pump adopting the water heating unit showed more stable air and water heating operations and higher water outlet temperatures than the single-stage multi-functional heat pump.

ABSTRACT Graphenes of a couple of different thicknesses, both in a range of 10∼20 layers, were tested as saturable absorbers for passively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber lasers. It was observed that the thin graphene provided a Q-switched pulse output of higher peak power, shorter pulse width, and higher repetition rate than the thick graphene. The peak power of 1.24 mW and pulse energy 8.8 nJ at a repetition rate of 14.94 kHz were obtained from the Q-switched laser with the thin graphene layer.

ABSTRACT With the rapid development of wireless technologies, the need to support moving hosts of IPv6-based mobile networks in ubiquitous environment is growing. So the demand for delay sensitive applications, such as multimedia stream, VoIP, that requires increasingly seamless handover. Various well-known approaches to optimize the handover latency have been proposed in the literature: MlPv6,FMIPv6,HMIPv6 and F-HMIPv6. However, these approaches are inefficient in handover delay, packet loss, out-of order problem, dependency of exact predictive information, a sudden disruption of the link and so on. In this paper, we propose an enhanced fast handover scheme with temporal reuse of care of addresses (CoAs) and packet buffering point (PBP) in IPv6-based mobile networks. The proposal reduces the handover latency, handover initiation time through the temporal reuse of CoAs as tentative addresses already proved unique by other mobile node (MN) using DAD (duplicate address detection). It also solves the packet loss and out of order problem by PBP which is the above router between previous access router (pAR) and new access router (nAR).

An image rejection down-conversion mixer architecture is presented which does not require low-pass filters. The image rejection performance of conventional architectures, the Hartley and Weaver, are analyzed as a function of phase and gain mismatches and compared with the proposed architecture. The proposed architecture that adopts a double poly-phase filter at the front and back of mixer shows better performance

ABSTRACT Traffic measurement is required to protect network from abnormal traffic that is created by attacking or computer virus. Traffic measurement and flow information exporting method have being standardized and partially introduced. But traffic measurement devices and flow exporting software have still too low performance to collect all flows. Recently, traffic grows rapidly and various flow by emerging service to increase cost of traffic measurement. More efficient traffic measurement and flow exporting device is needed

ABSTRACT We develop a structural, market equilibrium model in which the competitive assignment of heterogeneous CEOs to firms and imperfect product market competition interact to determine the distributions of firm value and CEO compensation. We calibrate the model using the distributions of CEO pay and firm value in each of nine Fama-French industries, and indirectly infer the unobserved distributions of CEO talent and firm quality that together determine firm output. Using several counterfactual experiments with the calibrated models corresponding to each of the industries, we find that the distribution of CEO talent varies dramatically across industries. More importantly, contrary to the conclusions of earlier studies that abstract away from the effects of the product market (Gabaix and Landier (2008), Terviö (2008)), we show that CEO talent has a substantial impact on firm value. Our estimates of the effects of CEO talent on firm value for the industries in our sample are two orders of magnitude higher than those obtained by the aforementioned studies. Our estimates suggest that the compensation of CEOs is quantitatively in line with their contributions to firms. We also find that product market characteristics such as the entry cost and the elasticity of substitution are important determinants of the levels and distributions of CEO compensation. Our implications continue to hold in several supplementary robustness tests. Broadly, our study shows that it is important to incorporate the product market environment in which firms operate when assessing the contributions of CEOs to firms.
