    The main purpose of this study was to analyse the temperatures generated during the bone bed preparation, given the internal structure of the bone bed, the geometry of the hole, and the treatment parameters such as the type of cooling and the rotational speed of the drill. The investigated material was domestic pig ribs, in which holes were drilled three times using two drill bit systems used for Hiossen® and Paltop® dental implantation. The ThermaCAM® P640 thermal imaging camera was used for measurement of drilling temperatures. After the holes were drilled, each rib was examined using the 1172 SkyScan microtomograph, Bruker®, to compare the geometry of the machined holes.     There are many cysts and tumors which might occur in the mandibular and maxillary bones. Their origin can be either odontogenic or non-odontogenic. One of the most common odontogenic cysts is the odontogenic keratocyst (OKC). Its nomenclature and classification have changed many times over years, from a tumor to, finally, a cyst. Nowadays, its treatment has not greatly changed, however, it is related to a potential recurrence rate more than any other cyst of odontogenic origins. OKC size, localization, and possible cortical expansion towards adjacent soft tissues might influence the scope of treatment and possible reoccurrence in time. Each case is quite individual, and after removal of the pathology in some cases there can be a necessity for either bone grafting or any other reconstruction method to restore proper bone continuity.     Introduction. The presence of bone septum in the maxillary sinus is one of the most common anatomical findings. So-called Underwood septa (US) are an atypical bone formation in the maxillary sinuses. Mostly they are quite easily found in CBCT studies and have major importance in sinus lift procedures in dental surgery. Furthermore, the shape, location, and size of the bony septa are important in each maxillary sinus surgery. Material and methods. A retrospective study of 120CBCT scans from the authors’ own database was conducted. Results. Approximately 37.5% of each CBCT was associated with the occurrence of US, while just 25% had a full septum, and a total of only 14 patients had a half septa. Due to its easy access from the oral cavity approach, it is commonly used for oroantral and palatal fistula closure. The knowledge of its anatomy and surrounding tissues plays a role in its mobilization and suturing onto the desired defect in the palatal or maxillary region. The BFP is mostly associated with the primary approach used for a fistula or bone surgery. Alternatively, the procedure can be performed with a single approach incision, which does not compromise the appearance or the function of the operating or adjacent areas.     The present study aimed to characterize the macrostructure and microstructure of the mandibular teeth of the Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) and the methods it uses to obtain food. Examinations were performed using a stereoscopic microscope, autofluorescence method, histological method and computed microtomography. A detailed macro- and micro-structural description of V. komodoensis mandibular teeth were made. The mandibular teeth are laterally flattened along their entire length and the dental crown is hooked caudally. The part of the nasal margin of the tooth crown is irregular, while the caudal margin of the tooth is characteristically serrated, except for the tooth base area. There are longitudinal grooves on the lingual and vestibular surfaces up to the lower third of the tooth height.     The occurrence and manifestation of each ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is quite rare and uncommon. Mentioned odontogenic tumor classification had changed over the years; however, the treatment possibilities for this lesion remain the same. In most cases surgical enucleation is sufficient enough; however, bigger lesions might require bone curettage with sometimes performed bony ostectomy, which is a quite sufficient and effective method of treatment. In the presented case report, a panoramic radiological evaluation indicated an impacted molar tooth surrounded with mixed radiolucent/radiopaque areas. The 10-year-old Caucasian girl was scheduled for an incisional biopsy. The bone cavity in the mandible after tumor removal might be left for spontaneous healing or grafting techniques, depending on the shape and size of the defect. In the presented case report, the usage of PRF/iPRF in the mandibular bone cavity, and healing improved the overall final result.

    In order to fully evaluate and establish the degree of bone overgrowth, various radiological studies are essential in the careful planning of the amount of surgical excision. In the presented paper, the authors use self-designed anatomo-topographical reference points for planning the surgeries. Routine panoramic radiographs and low-dose computed tomography based on anatomical landmarks help in measuring the proportions of mandibular bone overgrowth with the following preoperative anatomical landmarks: (Go-Go), (Go(Right)-Gn), (Go(Left)-Gn), and (Me–Gn). Measurements taken at selected points and landmarks (gonion-gnathion/gnathion-menton) are easy to conduct.     Simple Summary The present study aimed to determine the possibility of limiting potential dioxin disorders of the structure of hard tissues in the offspring of intoxicated rat mothers by simultaneous administration of α-tocopherol (vitamin E) or acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). The levels of magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) contained in bone tissue as indicators of the process of mineralization of hard tissues were also determined. The chaps were harvested from the offspring of eight female Buffalo rats for testing. Selected morphological, chemical and physical parameters of the teeth of the offspring of female rats from the experimental groups were analyzed. The analysis showed the effect of vitamin E and ASA for the content of Mg, Ca and P. The routinely used methods (Vitt and Kiesewalter) do not allow withers height estimation without complete long bone and skull osteometry. The modified Wyrost and Kucharczyk formula is based on the internal dimensions of the cranial cavity. This method can be used even when the neurocranium is the only surviving portion of the skull. Earlier investigation demonstrated that it can be used as a substitute for the Kiesewalter method.     The study was carried out on 10 swine of 20-30 kg body weight. Five animals were assigned to each of 2 groups. An aneurysm of the abdominal aorta was created experimentally in animals from the first and second study group. After 4 weeks, animals from the second group were subject to aneurysm repair using an aortic prosthesis. During the experiment, we measured the myoelectric activity of the muscular layer of the abdominal aorta and aneurysmal lesion with the ultrasonographic technique. Measurements of the aorta and aneurysmal lesion and histopathological analyses were carried out post-mortem. We found a statistically significant decrease in the myoelectric activity of the aorta on the aorta-straight prosthesis interface and a significant decrease in the thickness of the muscular layer of the aorta on the aorta-prosthesis interface. The aim of the study was to evaluate the participation of α1-adrenergic receptor subtypes in the contractility of the aortic smooth muscle cells in rabbits. The in vitro experiments were performed in isolated tissue preparations from 30 adult female New Zealand rabbits. The abdominal aortic sections were placed in organ bath chambers and contracted with increasing doses of non-selective α1-adrenergic receptor agonist phenylephrine without pre-incubation or after incubation in α1-adrenergic receptor subtype-selective or non-selective antagonists.     The aim of the study was to evaluate electrical properties of the mammary gland of dairy cow during manual and mechanical milking and to adapt the electrographic method for analysis of udder physiology. Udder myoelectrical activity was measured on 10 healthy highly productive dairy cows of Slovak Pied cattle breed. The electrical activity of four quarters of the udder was recorded simultaneously using four bipolar electrodes. The udder was stimulated by delicate two-finger massage, manual milking and mechanical milking. During the experiment the duration of the reaction for stimulation and the amplitude of spike dischargers were listed. The udder stimulation through palpational massage of the teat end, manual and mechanical milking caused immediate reaction. The udder responded to stimulation with an increase in myoelectrical activity: increase in discharge frequency to 2.33 ± 0.6 per min and an increase in discharge amplitude with the average of 457 ± 147 µV.     Knowledge about horses from early medieval (10th–13th c.) Poland has been largely based on historical and archaeological data. Archaeozoological information has only been used to a limited extent. Therefore, this article aims to present the current state of knowledge on this subject, drawing on archaeozoological data from studies of horse bones. Apart from confirming earlier reflections regarding the sacred significance of the horse, additional information was obtained about specific individuals who were the subject of magical treatments. It turned out that sites with horse skeletons and skulls are few compared to the familiar presence of horse remains among kitchen waste. This contrasts with the neighbouring regions, where horses were buried more frequently among the Germans, Scandinavians and Prussians.     During the archaeozoological investigations in Liptovská Mara, 13 bones belonged to brown bear skeleton were identified. The materials were analysed macroscopically in order to determine the presence of the pathological bone changes. Moreover, X-ray imagination and microscopical analysis of the dental root cross-sections were done. The age of animal was estimated to 10-15 years. The pathological changes in periodontal area (chronic periodontitis) and in the metacarpal bones (hypertrophic bone formations) were described. According to accessible literature,archaeological and archaeozoological investigations results in the above-mentioned site, the bears from Liptovská Mara were killed, because of their potential attacks on domestic animals herds.

    This study aimed to evaluate the impact of single and triple administration of levamisole on the dynamics of hematological parameters during experimental pleuritis. The experiment was performed on female Buffalo rats. Rats were randomly assigned to two equal groups that received 1 and 3 doses of levamisole every 2, 24 and 48 h, respectively. Following the experiment, blood samples for the measurement of hematological parameters were collected. The study group receiving three doses of levamisole observed a significant reduction of red blood cell count at 48 h post administration and an increase in mean corpuscular volume compared to the control inflammation group. The administration of a single dose of levamisole results in a significant increase in hematocrit at 72 h, an increase in white blood cell count at 24 h and 72 h, and an increase in neutrophil count at 72 h compared to the control inflammation group.     A lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) is a rare finding. Patients diagnosed with LPC younger than 40 years of age are not that common. Mostly asymptomatic LPCs can be discovered on routine radiographs as an oval radiolucency between two mandibular premolar teeth roots and can vary in shape and size. Most cases are treated with enucleation, bone curettage, or a combination of both, greatly depending on the surgeon’s preference. Because most LPCs are quite small, lesions do not require any regenerative procedures. In the presented case, because of cortical expansion of the lesion and loss of vital bone bridge surrounding two adjacent maxillary teeth, a guided bone regenerative procedure (GBR) with xenograft bone substitute was used.     The study presents an analysis of a horse skeleton discovered in the timber and earth frame of the rampart surrounding the ducal stronghold in Gda nsk. The body of the animal was deposited sometime from the beginning of the 11th to the mid-12th century. The male horse was aged 8-9 years old and had an estimated withers height of 128 cm (12.6 hands). The dentition and lesions on the skull suggest that the horse was used for riding. Two types of skeletal injuries are visible-the first resulted from the use of the horse and is visible on the skull, teeth, vertebrae, and limb bones. Such bone lesions are described in modern literature on equine medicine; therefore, their aetiology and clinical manifestation are described. The second group of injuries are lesions located in topographically distant areas: the skull, thoracic vertebrae, ribs, and limb bones. Their common feature is a proliferative periosteal reaction. Their aetiology cannot be definitely stated on the basis of the available material. They may be considered an effect of mechanical load-bearing resulting from the excessive use of the horse but also may reflect a generalized infection.

    The study presents an analysis of a horse skeleton discovered in the timber and earth frame of the rampart surrounding the ducal stronghold in Gda nsk.     This paper considers the observation of pathological changes in animal skeletal remains from four archaeological sites in Sirmium and one rustic villa (Vranj) located near the city. Before the pathological analysis, skeletal elements, as well as insight of taxonomic and age of animals were determined. 13599 bones or bone fragments were examined. In 72 specimens various abnormal changes have been observed. Most of the pathological changes were present in skeletal remains of cattle and horses. Macroscopic and radiographic analysis of pathological changes in the animal bones established that the lesions had proliferative and chronic character. Proliferative changes in the bones of cattle and horses indicate that these animals were used as draught animals and/or carrying cargo.     and Roman mythology. In this article, authors come
    closer to the source and meaning of the often used
    symbols, i.e. the rod of Asclepius, as well as the wand
    of Hermes. While the origin and meaning of the rod
    and one serpent of Asclepius staff is relatively clear,
    the origin of wand of Hermes entwined by two
    serpents remained mysterious. To solve this mystery,
    one should move back to Sumerian times. For there
    was Ningishzida, the Mesopotamian deity of the
    underworld, whose symbol was a staff with two
    serpents intertwined around it. The authors describe
    the relations between Ningishzida, the Egyptian god
    Thoth and Hermes (in Roman mythology – Mercury).
    After the period of medieval oblivion, Hermes has
    returned triumphantly as Hermes Trismegistus to
    provide his patronage over the alchemy, pharmacy

    Caričin Grad is located in southern Serbia, on the eastern slopes of the Radan Mountain, 30 km southwest of Leskovac. The remains of Caričin Grad are associated with the important Early Byzantine city Justiniana Prima, founded ex nihilo in the AD 530s by the emperor Justinian I (527– 565), in order to perpetuate his birthplace. Situated in a rural area in the western part of the province of Dacia Mediterranea, the city presents a unique example of late urbanisation in the northern provinces of Illyricum. Since it lasted for a very short time – only 80 years – and the area has remained uninhabited until today, the site has yielded well-preserved monuments and remains of material culture. Animal bones showing pathological changes come from three locations in the city: the complex of the south-eastern corner tower of the Lower town, the intramural housing in the Lower town and the intramural housing in the Upper town. The main part of the material originated from occupation layers dated to the second half of the 6th century. This paper presents the analysis of animal remains with pathological changes from Caričin Grad, discussing their significance for economy and social status in Justinia Prima.

In most cases, patients suffer from various forms of malocclusion. From a total of 150 asymmetrical jaw radiographs evaluated, 46 were evaluated and included in this study. A retrospective study on the data of 46 selected patients treated, diagnosed, and consulted from various forms of mandibular and skeletal asymmetry based on routine diagnostic panoramic radiographs evaluated typical and atypical radiological and anatomical symptoms of condylar hyperplasia.     Background: Linen dressings were invented a few years ago but are still being worked on. Methods: The obtained fabrics from the traditional variety of flax (Nike), two transgenic types of flax (M50 and B14) and the combination of these two flax fibers (M50 + B14) were tested in direct contact in cell cultures. Cell viability tests were performed, and the proliferation potential of cells on Balb3T3 and NHEK cell lines was checked using the Sulforhodamine-B (SRB) test. Moreover, the effect of new linen fabrics on apoptosis of THP-1 cells, as well as on the cell cycle of NHEK, HMCEV and THP-1, cells after 24 h of incubation was assessed. Results: All tested linen fabrics did not raise the number of necrotic cells. The tested fabrics caused a statistically significant decrease in the total protein content in skin cancer (except for 0.5 cm of Nike-type fabrics).     Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of a thulium-doped fiber laser and a diode laser in zero ischemia kidney surgery, by carrying out a comparative study in a pig model. Material and methods: Research was carried out on 12 pigs weighing 30 kg each. A thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) and a diode laser (DL) operating at wavelengths of 1940 and 1470 nm, respectively, were used. The cut sites were assessed both macroscopically and microscopically. The zone of thermal damage visible in the histopathological preparations was divided into superficial and total areas. Results: During partial nephrectomy, moderate to minimal bleeding was observed, which did not require additional hemostatic measures. All animals survived the procedure. On day 0, the total thermal damage depth was 837.8 µm for the TDFL and 1175.0 µm for the DL. On day 7, the depths were 1556.2 and 2301.7 µm, respectively.     During pre-operation planning, an implantologist has to decide about the location of a dental implant based on the available bone, anatomical structures and future prosthetics. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of the configurations of the junction zone of the pterygoid process, maxillary tuberosity and pyramidal process among the population and to determine the usefulness of 3D model visualization in regard to precision of anatomical structure projections for clinical planning. A total of 72 cases were analyzed for seven measurements (lateral, medial, rostral, caudal, area, line-1 longitudinal, line-2 transverse) on both body sides—right (R) and left (L). In 57 cases, age and sex of the patient were given. In 15 cases this information was missing. Among the group of 57 cases with complete data, there were 30 females (F) and 27 males (M).
