To broaden comprehension about European university development of e-SL during the pandemic a qualitative exploratory study was needed. This research aimed to emphasize the practical and social dimensions of technologies for student collaboration with the community during e-SL projects. To this end the questions that guided this exploratory study were:
1) What social needs related to COVID-19 did the e-SL projects address? and, consequently, what solidarity goals have been stated?
2) How were the e-SL projects developed in terms of virtual design?
3) How and to what extent is technology involved in the e-SL projects?
4) How is the new interaction with the communities in an online environment and what is the extent of the projects’ impacts?
Major contribution of this study is to help faculty and researchers that are interested in applying and studying e-SL regarding what is the current situation in this field, thus providing more in-sights and suggesting future directions of action and research.

ABSTRACT In order to get information about children's knowledge on medicines, a questionnaire with semi-open and open questions was applied to 152 children, ages 10 to 13, in two medical centres in a Spanish town. Results indicate that children have limited knowledge about medicines, which is an indicator of the potential risk to which they are exposed. There is a profound lack of knowledge about the attribution of efficacy of the medicine, since it is linked to external characteristics such as flavour and place where it is acquired. Children's knowledge has coherence and internal logic, which will predictably facilitate the planning and implementing of the necessary educational programs about medicines, and which should be adapted to their level of development. Children's knowledge of medicines The study of the use of medicines has been mainly done from a biomedical and pharma-cological perspective. According to this perspective, medicines are substances that are useful for the treatment and prevention of diseases, and modification of healthy biological status such as control of the reproductive function and appetite suppression or stimulation. The biomedical studies on medicine use focus on varied topics like: development of new products, analysis of health risks and efficiency on specific populations, development of inter-national classifications and consumption quantification.

Over the last two decades, there has been a growing emphasis on the transformation of higher education within Europe. The promotion of active and democratic citizenship through formal higher education is a primary concern. Service-learning (SL) has proven to be a powerful didactic methodology for achieving these ideals. The objective of this paper is to highlight some reflections that permeate SL european experiences, published in the European Observatory of Service-Learning in Higher Education, between January 2020 and September 2021. The counting and percentages of the valued attitudes of SL experiences were collected to explore the guiding philosophy, historical roots, purposes, and underpinning features of SL, contextual factors affecting the practice of SL in the partner institutions and countries, and future challenges and opportunities. Conclusions focus on SL growth and mainstreaming; SL as a core strategic pillar for developing deeper community-higher education partnerships...

Higher education is a principal agent for addressing the sustainable development goals proposed by the 2030 Agenda, because of its key mission of knowledge generation, teaching and social innovation for sustainability. In order to achieve this, higher education needs to integrate transversally the values of sustainability in the way of developing the field of management, as well as research, university life and, of course, teaching. This paper focuses on teaching, and more specifically on the didactic strategies considered most relevant for training in sustainability competencies in college students, according to the guidelines commonly accepted by the international academic community. Through collaborative work among experts from six Spanish universities taking part in the EDINSOST project (education and social innovation for sustainability), funded by the Spanish R&D+i Program, in this paper the role of five active learning strategies (service learning, problem-based learning, pro...

This paper examines Service-Learning as a tool for improving the education of student teachers. The characteristics and dimensions of the service learning methodology in higher education make it an appropriate sphere for teaching ethics, favoring the social commitment of the student teachers and the improvement of the teaching profession, but always taking into consideration the varied elements that constitute and shape experience. By presenting some key concepts we introduce a synthesis of elements related to service-learning and invite the reader to take ethical duties as a moral and professional commitment for the improvement of social justice in our communities and university classrooms. The paper is written in the context of higher education in Spain, at a time of great complexity in the relationships between the government and education communities from which teacher education programs are not exempt.

This article discusses the theoretical models and trends underlying university teacher education programs and proposes to define systemic approaches at the supra-university level, in order to contribute to professionalizing the role of teachers and improve the quality of higher education. This paper aims to describe the models, trace trends and suggest improvements in teacher training after the implementation of the Bologna process. To do so, it reviews the literature and discusses new perspectives from a critical reflection.

Many authors and organizations argue that the University can and should play a key role in building a natural and social sustainable environment. For that, it is necessary to integrate methodologies that are consistent with the sustainability principles into the educational model. This paper analyzes, from a theoretical perspective, the features that make service-learning an effective tool for introducing sustainability into the curriculum, and the challenges of its implementation in higher education. Service -learning and sustainability curriculum are not wellknown concepts, so first it is necessary to define them. Then, the connection between the two is analyzed based on the principles adopted by the C onference of Rectors of Spanish Universities for introducing sustainability into the curriculum, and by reviewing documents and research on the subject. As a conclusion, it is argued that service -learning is a suitable methodology for educating about, for and from sustainability th...

COVID-19 has brought up new and urgent needs, some of which can be faced through Service-Learning projects, as solidarity is central. We believe that through Service-Learning we can contribute to confronting and overcoming this common threat and its repercussions. For that, we have to design Service-Learning projects that respond to such needs. At a time when many higher education institutions are requiring virtual teaching, we also need to adapt existing Service-Learning courses to this new situation, even if the service needs are not directly linked to COVID-19. The European Association of Service-Learning in Higher Education (EASLHE), in collaboration with Pacto de América Latina por la Educación con Calidad Humana (Palech), the European Observatory of Service-Learning in Higher Education and the National Distance Education University (UNED) have developed this Practical guide on e-Service-Learning in response to COVID-19 to support adapting Service-Learning courses to our new reality. We strongly believe that social distancing is no reason to stop Service-Learning. Just do it online!
