Risk management is a concept which is increasingly becoming exceptional in a number of organizations. Several companies regularly set up a risk assessment procedure for performance improvement and profit maximization. In the construction industry, projects are enormously complex in nature and often involves significant budgets, and therefore reducing risks associated with project development should be key for every project manager. In this paper, risks associated with external sources have been identified and investigated in a case study. The analysis of the risks has been presented using risk priority number (RPN) to determine the failure modes in projects. From the results, the top risks included availability of labors, lack of technical know-how , use of old methodologies, inefficient dissemination of information, changes in government regulations, unrealistic contract time frame, licensing, permit, documents approvals, change of government department heads, bribery and corruptio...

Projects have been considered as temporary based production systems which need to be designed, produced and delivered within a specified time. It has been asserted by a number of researchers that fast, complex and uncertain projects cannot be managed through the conventional ways and that fast track projects with long, complicated supply chains involving many players and subject to multiple, extensive process design changes have complex flow management that have failed miserably. The conceptual models of construction management and the tools it utilizes (work breakdown structure, critical path method, and earned value management) have been criticized to be deficient in handling the present unique challenges of projects. As a result, the industry is characterized by a number of wastes including: overproduction, lead time, transportation, inappropriate processing, inventories, unnecessary movements, rework and making do wastes. There is therefore the need for practical and robust mode...

In this paper, an Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS model which is based on a score function is proposed for detecting the root cause of failure in an Offshore Boat engine, using groups of expert’s opinions. The study which has provided an alternative approach for failure mode identification and analysis in machines, addresses the machine component interaction failures which is a limitation in existing methods. The results from the study show that although early detection of failures in engines is quite difficult to identify due to the dependency of their systems from each other. However, with the Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS model which is based on an improved score function such faults/failures are easily detected using expert’s based opinions.

The global vaccination program provides hope for ending the present worldwide pandemic. Due to the current pandemic, COVID-19 vaccines must be delivered and administered to communities once supplies are available. However, there are significant challenges in the sourcing, allocation, distribution, and uptake of vaccinations. A successful vaccination program would necessitate adequate risk management across the vaccination supply chain. This article has collected the predictable risks of the COVID-19 vaccines considered within the vaccine delivery system framework. The risks are presented based on relevant literature. Hence, this work’s framework is expected to contribute to better risk management of vaccination programs and similar future projects.

In this study, a procedure to overcome analytical hierarchical process (AHP) limitations was developed and tested, and a tool created via pairwise comparison chart and weighted sum method hybridization was introduced. In addition, a multicriteria decisionmaking software was selected to validate the constructed hybrid decision-making tool. The software was formulated based on an established decision-making technique. Data for the comparison analysis were obtained from an ongoing research, and output from the comparison analysis provided evidence for the accuracy of the constructed tool. The proposed hybridized method aligned with AHP reasoning but demonstrated a faster process; hence, it was called 'expedited AHP'.

This is a short letter on how the peer review process of many journals is being abused by some sham authors. While it would be difficult for the journals to identify and eliminate manuscripts that are not submitted with a sincere intention to publish, the universities and learning institutions should develop code of ethics to prevent their staff from abusing the journal review process. Imposing submission fee would also act as a deterrent against unscrupulous submissions.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia keep failing year to year due to economic fluctuation and challenges. This affects the industry and economy growth of Malaysia. This research was conducted to identify criteria of performance prediction model that can predict success or failure risk of SMEs and to develop the predictive model, based on logit regression method, for SMEs of Malaysia. Developing a model of logit regression is by using the four perspectives of the balanced scorecard approach. The four perspectives are independent variables, including the success and failure of SMEs as the dependent variable. The variables would help in developing the model through Statistical Package for the Social Science. data software to gain the binomial regression results. The modeled result is based on the probability of the SME success and bankruptcy risk, useful for policy makers.

Facility layout is an important component of a manufacturer's operations especially in terms of maximizing the effectiveness of the production process. The key of good facility layout is the integration of the needs of people, materials and machinery in such a way that it does create a single well-functioning system. An effective layout can help an organization achieve a strategy that supports differentiation, low cost or response while wrong layout planning will lead to lack of space in key areas, poor placement of key activities, excessive material handling and increased operating costs. In this case study, ARENA software has been used to simulate the production time requires in completing the assembly process. Several options from relayout activities have been tested in order to find the best outcomes that can optimize the output, since the existing layout creates lots of wastes. The result shows the productivity increase from 68.2% to 81.5% and production efficiency also ris...

The modern business environment is operating in a highly turbulent time. Demand for operational activities to achieve effectiveness and efficiency, the environment has increased the need for organizational accountability both in private and public sectors. Meanwhile, one noteworthy gap in the management of projects is considering projects as systems existing in isolation from its surrounding environment. From an examination of the deficiencies in such an approach and how to avoid them, an understanding of the concept of the environment is very imperative. Besides, while many variables are said to cause process and system delays in construction projects, most have been conceptualized to assess aspects of project delays. However, most of these variables for assessing project delays still need improvement. This paper presents the concept of project environment, and proposes a comprehensive framework for evaluating delay sources in the external environment of construction projects throu...

This research aimed at investigating the barriers that influence implementation of security standards and security management systems in industry. For this purpose, a list of barriers was established from analysing journal articles and books, using narrative literature review. The journal articles and books investigated other ISO standards due to the lack of literature on security standards, ISO28000. A list of 17 barriers was identified. Since there is no list of barriers of implementing security standards and security management systems to be found in the literature, the established list fills a gap in research. The findings of the study can be used in future research to investigate ways to lift the industries by reducing the barriers to, and highlighting the importance of, security standard certification.
