History teaching in the context of constructivist education aims to gain students historical thinking skills and to be active in the course process. Using historical evidences and questioning these evidences is effective in gaining skills to students. This enables students in history courses to interact with historical evidence like little historians. Students also acquire historical thinking skills expected of them. In this study, according to the evidence-based history teaching approach, the Secondary Education textbook of Turkish Republic History of Revolution and Kemalism [T.C. İnkılap Tarihi ve Atatürkçülük] has been examined. The aim of the research is to reveal the suitability to evidence-based history teaching of the Secondary Education textbook of Turkish Republic History of Revolution and Kemalism. The case study, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the research and the data were obtained by document analysis. The obtained data were interpreted with descriptive analysis and content analysis. According to the results of the study, it was determined that first-hand evidence that enables students to gain historical thinking skills is used less than second-hand evidence in the understanding of evidence-based learning. Also it was revealed that the relationship between the acquisitions and skills determined in the history teaching program was not reflected in the textbook.

One of the basic elements in the relationship between historical expression and reality, as the knowledge of the past, is geographical location. The relationship between reality and the past constitutes the main argument for strengthening the historical expression and/or accepting it as real, based on the experience of the geographical space by the subjects in today's reality. In addition, geographical space, as an area where the past is experienced, is one of the main factors of historical narratives in establishing a causal relationship between historical events and explaining historical events. The aim of this research is to reveal the usage characteristics of geographical space in MEB 1 history textbooks. The case study, which is among the qualitative research designs, was used in the research. MEB 9 th grade, 10 th grade and 11 th grade history textbooks were selected as samples. By doing document analysis, the data regarding the geographical location in the relevant textbooks were obtained and the data were analyzed by descriptive and content analysis methods. According to the results of the study, when the history textbooks are examined, it is seen that the geographical space is used in the categories of space, absolute space, relative space, space as image, memory space, sacred space, geopolitical space and historical space. It can be said that the authors of the history textbook use the geographical space to construct the causality relationship within the historical narrative and to support the political history narrative as historical evidence while transferring the objective included in the history curriculum.

The basic component which effects the history teaching programs majorly, is the reflection of the well accepted philosophical and teaching – learning approaches to the program. If the accepted approach is behaviorism, an approach based on positivist epistemology, the history teaching programs consist of, in general, aim, content, teaching – learning process and evaluation parts. On the other hand, if constructivism is accepted, capability, gains, teaching – learning process and evaluation becomes the parts. This is a crucial component for the application of the teaching program with the parts that show coherence with each other. Among these parts, the " evaluation part " is much more important as it shows the outcomes of the other three parts. It is expected that the well accepted education approach will define the assessment and evaluation period and allow the nature of the program to become a part of this period. The aim of this research is to open to discussion how the MEB history education programs, prepared in the frame work.

Citizenship, described as political state of belonging, is to provide some of personal rights and responsibilities related to political status. Yet this political status is the wholeness of person’s social linking and associating with political-public areas. This sense of citizenship has begun in the late of 18th century with great Liberal Revolution. This concept can be described with the constitution of national state as a political public consists of individual. In other words, citizenship is equivalent with nation. Two great conversions make criticism on national states and their sense of citizenship. These are being of globalization and multicultural societies. Because of these two considerations, classical sense of citizenship (accepting the equal both of nation and citizenship) is criticized and citizenship is begun to associate with identification. In this sense, by replying the question of “who I am” that has come from primitive person or in another words, from mythical culture to the our days and by resolving genesis problems, history makes the description of identity with ascribing history and citizenship to the past. The beneficials/goals that potency expect from teaching history also can be described as educating citizen in this sense.
Potency/Government study to develop a type of citizen who they want to be with organizing individuals’ educational life (especially by means of teaching history) In this paper, there will be critical arguments on government around interviews after assassination of Hrant Dink that is the relationship of citizenship and history teaching. Qualitative techniques were used in research. Data were collected by means of an interview that was made with 15 participants from different work groups. Data was analyzed with using expression and content analyse techniques in the research. In the result of research, it was introduced that the participants think that there is a close relationship between history teaching and citizenship.

The issue about the search for identity brought out by the Modern Period is discussed not only within Europe but also in the whole World. Instead of accepting the identities of the previous periods, young people construct their own identities and thereby reproduce the societies. This situation also causes the social reality of the new generation to become the dominant discourse instead of the previous ones’ social reality. With this change, the values, life styles, aesthetic sense and paradigms of the previous generation are criticized by the new generation and are reproduced in a different way. The book “Understanding the Constructions of Identities by Young New Europeans” was written by Alistar Ross, who is Emeritus Professor of Education at London Metropolitan University, UK, and Jean Monnet Professor of Citizenship Education in Europe and exactly promises to understand this change.

Citizenship, which is described as political belonging to a country, attaches individual a kind of legal status on which a number of private rights and responsibilities depend on. It is this legal status that creates a bridge between the individual and the society, and establishes relations with political and public sphere. In a classical/modern sense, citizenship is equated with nationality. However, two great transformations have been questioning and criticizing the citizenship concept: globalization and multiculturalism. The emergence of these two processes has changed the classical role attached to citizenship because citizenship according to these trends is equated with identity. From the first person on, history has been answering the question: “Who am I?” and has been associating history and citizenship. What the ruling powers or parties expect is to develop citizens in the pursuit of these suggested interests.
The aim of this study is to investigate the relation between history education and citizenship, and shed light on concepts such as the perception of history, the relation between the ruling party and history, the objectives of history in the framework of modern citizenship and constitutional citizenship. The study was conducted with 26 students, 11 teachers and 17 who are attending history classes. This is a qualitative study which relies on the idea that the concept of citizenship is long-revolving and has some presumptions, therefore should be studied extensively. Expression analysis was used in the study.
The study revealed that perceptions of history, perspectives on the ruling power and attitudes on the objectives of history education are the determinants of the concept of modern citizenship or constitutional citizenship and identification of individuals’ identities.

For individuals in Turkey identity “issues” are familiar. There are many forms of stigmatization and otherization constantly reproduced in Turkish society ranging from the discourse of “foreign powers” to Gypsies. Turkey has plenty of others. There sometimes exist those supporters of “foreign powers,” those reactionaries, those secularist Kemalists booster of military coups, those “heretic” Alevis from who people should stay away, or those communists and atheists. To the list separatist Kurds, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, and Jews should be added.
The author of this book, Akif Pamuk, scrutinizes the construction of individual and collective identities through a series of interesting cases such as the bombardment of a group of Kurdish people in Uludere in 2011, the February 28 military intervention, the Ergenekon trials, the discussions of “raising pious generations,” and violence against homosexuals. Analyzing these cases, Pamuk discusses how individuals from different political, cultural and religious backgrounds use history to construct their individual identities in regard to the others.
A significant book exploring the important impacts of the use of history on identity-construction.
