With the advances in internet technologies and the emergence of crowdsourcing, organizations are now increasingly looking outside their boundaries for solving problems. Yet, the success of crowdsourcing processes depends on the sustained participation of crowdsourcing individuals. Previous studies have mainly focused on understanding individuals’ initial motivation for participation with few focusing on the factors that affect individuals’ sustained participation in crowdsourcing contests. None of these studies examined how collaboration affects individuals’ participation behavior in crowdsourcing contests. This study attempts to understand how individuals’ collaboration (in the form of comments and votes) affects their sustained participation in online problem solving contests. This study uses data from the Kaggle website that holds online data science competitions in which individuals submit their proposed solutions with the best solutions being rewarded. Our results show that ind...

PurposeThis study aims to use the theory of third places to understand how different kinds of social interactions in small hospitality businesses, such as restaurants and cafes, can enhance senior customers’ experiences and alleviate their loneliness.Design/methodology/approachThe target population of this study were Hong Kong residents of age 60 or older. The sampling frame comprised respondents who visited a Cha Chaan Teng (i.e. a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant) more than once a year. The authors distributed 500 questionnaires and collected 411 valid responses in 2016. They used structural equation modeling for data analysis.FindingsThe results show that social interactions (service manner and need identification) with employees and other customers have a positive effect on senior customers’ experiences, while the service manner of employees reduces senior customers’ loneliness.Originality/valueThis study demonstrates the respective contributions of social interactions with employ...

Crowdsourcing contests have become increasingly important and prevalent with the ubiquity of the Internet. Designing efficient crowdsourcing contests is not possible without the deep understanding of the factors affecting individuals’ continuous participation and their performance. Prior studies have mainly focused on identifying the effect of task-specific, environment-specific, organisation-specific, and individual-specific factors on individuals’ performance in crowdsourcing contests. And to our knowledge, there are no or very few studies on evaluating the effect of individuals’ participation history on their performance. This paper aims to address this research gap using a data set from TopCoder. This study derives competitors’ participation history factors, such as participation frequency, participation recency, winning frequency, winning recency, tenure, and last performance to construct models depicting effects of these factors on competitors’ performance in online crowdsourcing contests. The research findings demonstrate that most of competitors’ participation history factors have significant effect on their performance. This paper also indicates that competitors’ participation frequency and winning frequency moderate the relationship between last performance and performance, and relationship between tenure and performance positively. On the other hand, individuals’ participation recency and winning recency moderate relationship between last performance and performance negatively, but have no significant effect on the relationship between tenure and performance.

PurposeThis paper aims to explore the links between revenue management and business‐to‐business (B2B) relationships and explains how revenue management can both support and damage B2B relationships.Design/methodology/approachA single case study method was employed to conduct qualitative research into a company and its key accounts. In‐depth data were collected from three divergent sources (company revenue managers, company account managers and nine of the company's key accounts) through semi‐structured interviews, observations and document studies.FindingsThe research findings reveal that from the company's perspective, managers acknowledge that revenue management has positively influenced the process of identifying and analysing key account activities and conducting contractual decision making with key accounts. However, from the key accounts' perspective, revenue management practices were found to have significant negative consequences which damage trust and undermine ...

This is the boy who want to show himself to everyone, this is the bot who never give up and spare no effort to access the success, this is the boy who moved so many people and give their positive energy to live, this is the boy who never say die to the failure and Yes, his name is Paul Logan! At start, Logan thought the university should as easy as his high school, but as the time goes by, he found that it is much more harder than his high school, and he failed in his college lift. After that, he found a job that worked at Sams Club and did not go to school anymore. This is a second chance for him to success, indeed, he in control of it, he control his destiny and life in his own hand. Success is not as difficult as you think it is not because things are difficult we dare not do, but because we dare not do things is difficult. I want show my own experience. Before I came of age, I was a cowardly child. I am afraid of fighting, in others after their humiliation also dare not say, just bow down silently wipe tears. I was afraid of my parents, so I chose science subjects that I was not interested in according to their wishes. I am afraid of traveling alone, getting lost and asking for directions. I am afraid of being sold by human traffickers just like my mother said. I never dare to travel alone. I was an absolute have no sense of direction until I was 18. I am even afraid of dogs, big and small black and yellow I am afraid, a dog bark can give me half a day of goose bumps. What is more ridiculous is that when I was seven or eight years old, I was even scared to tears by a rooster flying in front of me. Because afraid of choking water and afraid to learn to swim, because afraid of falling down and dare not ride a bike. In this strange world I seemed to fear far more than I feared. So cowardly year after year, plain not surprised, cowardly I do not feel boring, just feel comfortable. Then came the senior year of high school and somehow participated in a city-level merit student competition. With a watch and a pen in hand, I wrote the basic information in front of me very quickly. Then turn to the next page. The second page is a section called "main deeds". I scratched my head to think for half an hour, even a word also squeeze out. I went to the head teacher and asked him how I should write. A whole A4 sheet of paper, even if the writing is scattered may be hundreds of words. Head teacher said, write you and others different place, write your result, scholarship, the prize that gets, true not line write junior high school primary school to also go, orsay, composition contest, class cadre what of, ok. I nodded, returned to the classroom, buried my head and continued to write, listing one by one. Write down the number of awards, composition award, painting award, write their own achievements to prove their excellent results, write to participate in the nursing home activities to prove their rich love, write as no bird with the league branch to prove their solidarity students...... Can think of out of the written out, but the page is still full of malicious empty a large section, like my mediocre incompetence deliberately ridiculed. My thinking ran farther and farther, over the mountains, and finally put their own living seventeen years over a time. A memory worth showing off is not the same as others? I'm sorry I can't find any. Even my name is as flat as my life. I got the happy life I wanted, but it was like losing a whole life. When the blood, I chose to be a darling boy, I lost a young gallop. When the puppy love, I chose to refuse, and so sensible grew up, but have lost the qualification of puppy love. I chose to obey my
