Abstract: A method and system for multiplexing of multiple channels of video data through a single analog broadcasting channel is disclosed. The method enables a spatial and temporal multiplexing of videos of each of the multiple channels. The multiplexed content is created as a result of multiplexing that is encoded to generate digital transport stream that is transmitted through analog medium. The system enables a STB receiver to decode each of the videos from the stream. At least one video from the multiple videos is played on the ...

This paper describes a new ontology based framework for a hybrid fashion recommendation system. The recommenda-tion engine encodes subjective knowledge of fashion experts in MOWL [1] to reason with image features, to analyze user personality and to make appropriate recommendation for the garments based on occasion of wear. The abductive reasoning scheme employed in the recommendation engine makes it ro-bust against subjectivity in expert knowledge. The approach has been validated with fashion preferences of several indi-viduals with a large collection of Sarees, an ethnic dress for women in Indian subcontinent.

Geo-demographical segmentation of a city area is of interest in many social as well business contexts. In this paper, we present a new method for demographic segmentation of a city by analyzing satellite imagery and other forms of neighborhood data. We explore the feature-set that can be used for effective geo-demographic segmentation of satellite imagery. In particular, we study the effectiveness of a few color and texture features for the purpose. Our method essentially involves analysis of large volume of image data, for which we have devised a two-step process and approximate clustering methods. We have experimented with satellite images of two major cities to illustrate the results. We have integrated telecom data that signify human activity with satellite imagery to achieve enhanced segmentation of the demographic regions.

This paper proposes a recommendation engine for educational contents in the organizational context of a user. The novelty in this paper lies in creating a context model for a user incorporating the role and the tasks assigned to him, and its application to recommendation problem. The recommendations are made on the basis of the estimated gap that exists between an employee’s current knowledge level and the skill-set required in his job-context. A probabilistic reasoning framework is used for recommendations, to account for the inexact specifications of user competencies and requirements of the job context.

We present a mobile phone based shopping solution to aid the consumer in his decision making and thereby saving time by providing completely unbiased information on his mobile phone about the product he is focusing on. The solution employs well-known "query-by-example" paradigm of content-based image retrieval wherein the user search for the desired product with a photo of the product package snapped using his camera enabled mobile phone. To access the acceptability of this approach to potential users, we constructed a mock up of the music store and used 15 subjects to evaluate the system. This approach can be used for a wide range of packaged products characterized by distinct visual designs or bearing distinct product-marks, such as grocery items, music or video (CD/DVD), computer games, books and magazines. Mobile-based shopping. Query-by-example. Content-based image retrieval. User Study.

Résumé/Abstract Call centers for providing customer service has a tremendous impact in the conduct of business in today's competitive business environment. The advancement in Information Technology associated with the phenomenal growth of Internet has transformed call centers into automated computerized help desks. This paper reviews the evolution of call center technologies over the recent years. As a case-study, It presents the CISCO Enterprise Agent, which uses modern Information Technology to enable an organization ...

This paper presents a novel method for discovery and recognition of hairstyles in a collection of colored face images. We propose the use of Agglomerative clustering for automatic discovery of distinct hairstyles. Our method proposes automated approach for generation of hair, background and face-skin probability-masks for different hairstyle category without requiring manual annotation. The probability-masks based density estimates are subsequently applied for recognizing the hairstyle in a new face image. The proposed methodology has been verified with a synthetic dataset of approximately thousand images, randomly collected from the Internet.

Cultural heritage is encoded in a variety of forms. The task of preserving heritage involves preserving the tangible and intangible resources that broadly define that heritage. A significant aspect of intangible heritage resources are performing arts which include classical dance and music. Digital heritage resources include heritage artefacts in digitized form as well as the background knowledge that puts them

ABSTRACT This paper describes a method to identify events being vig-orously discussed on social media and to present them in the form of a web-based daily magazine. Tweet texts and hyperlinked information sources, such as images and news articles, are analyzed to discover the events. The events are selected for presentation using an "interestingness factor", which combines several facets of the discussions surrounding the events. The events are correlated based on their content similarity.

Abstract We present a computer vision based approach for classifying graphical document images by matching distinct visual patterns present in them. To accomplish this task the image is first decomposed into congruous segments, some of which contain distinct patterns followed by image matching to identify the presence of a specific pattern in the image. We have used clustering based image segmentation to extract distinctive patterns and PCA-SIFT image features for robust image matching. We have used R-Tree based feature ...

This paper presents a new approach to build distributed digital libraries with multimedia contents. The authors propose a new scheme for media feature based concept modelling to address the limitation of traditional ontology based multimedia retrieval systems. The perceptual models can be used for semantic query processing using standard MPEG-7 media content descriptions. The authors have defined a new ontology language M-OWL (multimedia web ontology language) to support this perceptual modelling. M-OWL is an ...

In this paper, we present a novel approach to visualize and navigate the document collection of a DL using ontology. We assume a DL corpus as a network of a large set of information nodes. We use domain ontology to depict the background knowledge organization and map the multimedia information nodes on that knowledge map, in order to make the implicit knowledge organization in a collection explicit. The ontology is automatically created by exploring the Wikipedia knowledge hierarchy, and is delimited to ...

Preservation of intangible cultural heritage, such as music and dance, requires encoding of background knowledge together with digitized records of the performances. We present an ontology-based approach for designing a cultural heritage repository for that purpose. Since dance and music are recorded in multimedia format, we use Multimedia Web Ontology Language (MOWL) to encode the domain knowledge. We propose an architectural framework that includes a method to construct the ontology with a labeled set of training data and use of the ontology to automatically annotate new instances of digital heritage artifacts. The annotations enable creation of a semantic navigation environment in a cultural heritage repository. We have demonstrated the efficacy of our approach by constructing an ontology for the cultural heritage domain of Indian classical dance, and have developed a browsing application for semantic access to the heritage collection of Indian dance videos.
