La critica letteraria è una materia in cui “parole e cose” sono strettamente intrecciate le une alle altre, e in cui tra i componenti materiali dei testi e le categorie che li classificano esiste un intricato rapporto di individuazione reciproca: non c’è termine, nel lessico della teoria letteraria, che non sia nato da un dato testuale, un caso particolare che ne ha influenzato natura e confini con le proprie caratteristiche specifiche, e allo stesso tempo non si dà dato testuale che possa essere identificato come tale in mancanza di una categoria che gli preesiste, di uno spazio teorico che lo fa esistere in quanto oggetto e ne garantisce la riconoscibilità. Partendo da questo doppio presupposto, questo libro si offre come strumento di partenza per lo studio della narrativa, occasione per riepilogare i concetti fondamentali della critica riportandoli – per quanto possibile – ai loro contesti di origine, così da coniugare nozione ed evoluzione, significato e storia.

I consider a text as a multilayer system bounded with mental mechanisms of its perception. Each level has its own object of analysis. I define three levels: sublevel (the level of sign and sign modifications),  supralevel (the level of the creation of the text senses) and extralevel (the level of the reader’s experience which allows hem to judge the text). We investigate the efficacy of topic model based approaches to two multi-aspect sentiment analysis tasks: multi-aspect sentence labeling and multi-aspect rating prediction. For sentence labeling, we propose a weakly-supervised approach that utilizes only minimal prior knowledge-in the form of seed words-to enforce a direct correspondence between topics and aspects. This paper presents a new enhanced text extraction algorithm from degraded document images on the basis of the probabilistic models. The observed document image is considered as a mixture of Gaussian densities which represents the foreground and background document image components. The EM algorithm is introduced in order to estimate and improve the parameters of the mixtures of densities recursively. The initial parameters of the EM algorithm are estimated by the k-means clustering method. After the parameter estimation, the document image is partitioned into text and background classes by the means of ML approach. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated on a variety of degraded documents comes from the collections of the National library of Tunisia.

Competition is a constitutive feature of capitalist societies. Social conflicts over the introduction, abolition and regulation of market organization are saturated with implicit moral arguments concerning the desirability of competition. Yet, unlike private property, exchange relations and social inequalities, economic competition has rarely been the explicit core of moral debates over capitalism. Drawing on a broad variety of social science literature, this article reconstructs, maps and systematizes ethical arguments about economic competition in capitalist societies. We discuss six contradictory rival views of economic competition and illustrate their influence by providing historical examples of the respective views in action in political-economic debates. This article serves as a mapping groundwork for reviving the systematic ethical debate on economic competition. In addition, our map of rival views lends itself to use as a structuring tool in empirical research on the moral economy and ideational embeddedness of capitalist societies, markets and firms.

The theatrical design process is rooted in a deep and careful examination of a "text", be it traditional script or a devised process.  This paper examines the importance of a dramaturgical analysis of that text, one which allows for an immersion into the material, and it's relationship to the designer's process which requires a designer to dwell within that text and be "baptized" by the process.

Миграционная политика стран Европы и восприятие обществом мигрантов тесно связаны между собой. СМИ оказывают большое влияние на общественное мнение, касаемо как самих мигрантов, так и политики, проводимой правительством в отношении последних. При том, что вопрос репрезентации мигрантов в традиционных СМИ изучен достаточно широко, то, каким образом мигранты представлены в современном медиапространстве, на данный момент мало исследовано. Данная работа посвящена изучению особенностей представления мигрантов в медиатекстах Великобритании в период максимального притока мигрантов.
Материалом для нашего исследования послужили данные новостного подкорпуса Британского Национального Корпуса (NOW). В работе используются методы текстового анализа с использованием нейросетевых технологий, контент-анализ и анализ лексических ассоциаций для определения эксплицитной и имплицитной информации. В результате проведённого исследования было выявлено, что криминализация мигрантов в СМИ привела к смешению терминов. Появляются два образа мигрантов (мигранты, несущие вред принимающей стороне, и мигранты, вызывающие чувство солидарности). Проблема незащищённости мигрантов на рынке труда также является важным топосом. Общество обеспокоено эксплуатацией и нарушением прав мигрантов. При этом «реальные» истории самих мигрантов практически отсутствуют.

In the paper different ways to derive networks from the textual data and an overview of (possible) applications of network analysis to the analysis of texts is presented. Several examples of analyses of different text networks are given as illustrations.

Project given by the "Text Analytics" course of the University of Pisa. The project was conducted in a team of 3 people, we deep dive into it with different algorithms/experiments to find the optimal solution to the problem along with the comparison of multiple models.
The dataset used for this project is obtained from the Kaggle competition “Quora Question Pairs” and it is openly available on the website Kaggle.com. In our approach we implemented many classical machine learning models like logistic regressions, random forest and so on. Subsequently we configured BERT transformers with different model type.
To run the code which we enclose in the submission, we used the Kaggle platform in order to get the most out of GPU Accelerator.

The main issue is the arrogance of the Capulet’s family, especially in the Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet, and Sampson characteristics. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, arrogance means an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people (Webster). “A major theme in Romeo and Juliet is the tension between social and family identity (represented by one’s name), and one’s inner identity.” (Phillips). The issue then becomes the basic shape of this theme, especially in the Capulet’s family; their arrogance is their inner identity which can represent the identity of their surname.

We are in the midst of a technological revolution whereby, for the first time, researchers can link daily word use to a broad array of real-world behaviors. This article reviews several computerized text analysis methods and describes how Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) was created and validated. LIWC is a transparent text analysis program that counts words in psychologically meaningful categories. Empirical results using LIWC demonstrate its ability to detect meaning in a wide variety of experimental settings, including to show attentional focus, emotionality, social relationships, thinking styles, and individual differences.
