It is The Independent Singapore newspaper on March 30, 2017 entitled “Fearless Finance Minister Ready for Next Fight”. In this news, the photo attachment as well as the content of the news, Sri Mulyani's figures seem to be the main focus even though the title does not indicate any information about her. This is what makes the writer became curious to examine the representation of Sri Mulyani figure in this foreign newspaper. So that, to know the Indonesian women representation in this online newspaper, the writer uses a Critical Discourse Analysis by Van Dijk to facilitate the research process. This CDA is divided into three level such as Text Level (Macrostructure, Superstructure, and Microstructure), Cognitive Level (the author and the institution), and Social Cognition (relate to social culture). But, the writer here only identify the newspaper text with the textual level and the social cognition level.

The object of this research is from Coca-cola’s printed advertisement in Indonesia. The analysis will explain about the comparison of the printed advertisement from 1960 until 2015. Actually it covers the crucial time after the independence of Indonesia in 1945, they are called Old Era, New Era, and Reformation Era.  Because of concerning about the printed advertisement analysis from 1960 until 2015, here the multimodal from the theory of Kress and Van Leeuwen is chosen. Kress (Kress & Van Leeuwen, 2006), argue that Halliday’s model with its three metafunctions is a starting point of their account of image because it works well as a source for thinking about all modes of representation.

In this research, the writer will be focus on analyzing the women representation through the cover magazine and its content. All of the discussion will be related to the feminism issue. To reveal this issue, the writer observes through the whole part of this magazine, from cover to content. In the cover, the authors analyzed only by giving her own interpretations that associated with emerging issue. While in the content section of the magazine, the author uses pattern four code from McRobbie about the Ideology of teenage femininity and connects it with the issue as well. The codes that is used itself are code of romance, code of personal/domestic life, code of fashion and beauty, code of music. Moreover, from this analysis, it will give the reader a new understanding about the women representation in the magazine recently. It also can lead the reader to be an active reader to think critically about how media using its language to attract people and also how women represented in the media.

In analyzing the portrayal of Indonesian woman in Washington Post, the writer used the Discourse Structure by Van Dijk. Discourse structure actually part of The Critical Discourse Analysis from Van Dijk. According to Van Dijk (1998), Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is a field that is concerned with studying and analyzing written and spoken texts to reveal the discursive sources of power, dominance, inequality, and bias.  It actually focuses on language and the social context. This theory also consists of three part such as; textual analysis, cognitive analysis, and social-cognition analysis. But here, this study only focuses on the textual analysis because the writer just wants to reveal about the portrayal of Indonesian woman in Washington Post. It’s not about the representation so that it’s no need to analyze about the social context. Textual analysis is about the discourse structure, here Van Dijk divided the analysis into three level; Macrostructure, Superstructure, and Microstructure. First, Macrostructure level, it deals with the topic of the text in general. Second, Superstructure level, it’s about the framework or schema of the text. Third, Microstructure level, it concerned with the meaning of the text.

This paper discusses the ethic's problem in the novel Trust me, I'm Lying by Mary Elizabeth Summer which is analyzed through the perspective of ethics. The benefits of this study are expected to be the basis and reference for other studies using ethical views, help solve the problems of ethics and make people realize to act rationally in doing an action. The aim of this paper is to understand the ethical issues contained in the novel and can give a moral assessment in accordance with the basic principles that can be generally accepted. The assessment standards may become a reference in the test and examine moral issues that arise. Not only that, the focus on analysis the novel is also to evoke the understanding that in making a decision not to be hasty and just taking a shortcut, but rather there should be consideration of the appropriate three basic criteria as a foundation for making a decision as Obligation, Moral Ideal, and Consequences. This analysis uses qualitative methods which is to do Library Research (collect data from other sources related to reading and studying the book, or journal to obtain related data). Then the data and the results become a descriptive qualitative analysis. Furthermore, the theoretical framework used to analyze the ethical issues contained in this novel are using belongs to Immanuel Kant Deontological theory that explains that the ethical or not an action is not related to the purpose, effect, or the consequences of such action. The good purposes do not justify the action taken is also good. The results show that, all forms of the main character in the novel (Julep) are wrong because it deals with criminal cases such as fraud, impersonation, and hijacking. Although the intent and purpose are good which is to help and save her father, but her actions cannot be considered true. From the analysis, it can be seen that the existing characters in the novel just judging an action by just ignored the outcome of the action. So that according to the theory of Kant, the actions which performed by these characters is unscrupulous.

This paper discusses the cultural studies of East Java in the form of folklore which is analyzed through the aesthetics perspective. The benefits of this paper are expected to increase the understanding that in a folklore also has aesthetic values that can be enjoyed by the readers. The objective of this paper is knowing about the implementation of aesthetic theory to the object of study of literary works in the form of folklore culture eastern Java. The method used in this analysis is descriptive qualitative with collecting secondary data in the form of books, journals, documents photos, etc. The focus of the analysis in this study is Folklore Jake Berek or Sawunggaling originating from Surabaya city. Jaka Berek is a young man who bravely against the Dutch Company. The legend about him is really famous among Surabaya people. In order to make analysis process becomes easier, there needs to explain the intrinsic elements of a folklore that can be attributed directly to the theory that will be used. Selection of a theoretical framework is using the theory of Tzvetan Todorov on Structural Theory. In this theory, there are three aspects of narrative that can be connected to the intrinsic elements of folklore, namely; the syntactic aspect that is focused on the plot, then the semantic aspect which is explained about the main character protagonist and antagonist, and then the verbal aspect that is focused on language style. The analysis showed that the three aspects of the narrative by Todorov have their respective roles in forming an artistic perspective in accordance with the intrinsic elements of folklore. Their mixture plot coming from two different grooves. It can make the story related to each other, then become a wonderful story to be enjoyed. Next, the story also coming from two different figures which can produce a unit that raises beautiful story. Then, a style that comes from choosing different words can make the story more interesting and makes the reader feels alive into the story. So it can not be denied that folklore Jaka Berek or Sawunggaling have aesthetic values in accordance with the principle of beauty in all things from Todorov. Aesthetic actually come from difference two kinds of things or more which becomes a unity that forms something of beauty.

The main issue is the arrogance of the Capulet’s family, especially in the Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet, and Sampson characteristics. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, arrogance means an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people (Webster). “A major theme in Romeo and Juliet is the tension between social and family identity (represented by one’s name), and one’s inner identity.” (Phillips). The issue then becomes the basic shape of this theme, especially in the Capulet’s family; their arrogance is their inner identity which can represent the identity of their surname.

The Aristotle’s quotation above means that everyone must be awakened to the truth, so they must taking an action on what they know to be true (Ripaldi). So, if we want to become a brave person, we must have the courage to reveal the truth by taking the brave action. This quotation also described of how the brave action is portrayed through the major character ‘Jacob Jankowski’ in the movies of Water for Elephants. This story adapted from a novel by Sara Gruen in 2006 with the same title. It also nominated as New York Times Bestseller Book. In 2011, Fox 2000 Pictures released this story become an American romantic drama film which is directed by Francis Lawrence whom well-known as the director of The Hunger Games’ films. Furthermore, a handsome actor named Robert Pattinson also starred this movie as a young Jacob. Both the book and the movie told the story which is quite similar about the circus life in the past and the struggle of a love story between Jacob and Marlena, but the director presents something different from the author about the portrayal of Jacob's character through his actions. Actually, Jacob’s action is more brave in the movie than in the book. It can be seen by evaluating through his decision as a Bull man, his behavior against August to protect Rosie as the elephant, and his effort to save Marlena.

Issue : The killing of the old man Research Question : How does the old man's evil eye cause the narrator's anxiety? This story is told in first-person central participant point of view because the narrator shares the story from his own personal perspective by using personal pronoun " I " as a central of the whole story. The narrator also represents the story from the omniscient point of view, it can be seen that he know all the things like; how the old man feels and what the old man thinking, he also stated that he heard all the things in the heaven, in the earth, and in the hell. From the point of view that used in the story, the author allows the reader to engage and participate like they are the narrator, so they can feel how " I " as a major character is portrayed in the story. The narrator as a major character has a dynamic character in the story. It starts with the exposition that he loved the old man whom kindhearted, but in the end, he killed the old man because of the evil eye; it shows that the character " I " changes over time. This fact makes the reader deceived in the beginning because the narrator looks like a protagonist, while at the end he is the murderer itself. The narrator's changes influenced by his mentally imbalanced or his paranoid which felt that the old man's eyes are as a terror for him, so he must kill the old man. This mentally imbalanced can be seen from the first sentence of the story, he confessed that he is very dreadfully nervous and he has a disease which can sharpened his sense. Furthermore, the other character which play an important role to support the story is the neighbor and the three policemen. The neighbor is a protagonist character which reveal the mysterious murder by calling the police station. While, the three policemen has flat character which seem to be very conscientious toward the suspect until the murder case revealed.

Most people nowadays have pets in their house. Having a pet is a hobby for animal-lovers because usually the pets become as a playmate, and friend to share. According to experts, raising animals can provide many benefits in terms of psychological and health. The presence of pets help us to avoid from frustration and loneliness. There are many animals that can be maintained, however cat and dog become the most popular pets until now. Cat and dog always give happiness and are a loyal friend of human. Some people prefer to take care of only cat or dog, however my friend named Ririn takes care of both of them, cat and dog in her house. She said that having cat and dog were fun because they were very cute and adorable. According to Ririn's explanation, there are several similarities and differences between cat and dog. The first similarities, cat and dog are can't be separated from their mothers before the age of 3 months. Puppies and kittens who newborn still in weak condition and need special attention especially from its mother. Their activities only sleeping and suckling at its mother. It shows that the role of mothers' cats and dogs extremely important to the development and growth of their children before the age of 3 months. Research shows after kittens and puppies beyond the age of 3 months, their digestive system are unable to digest milk. Therefore, it's time to puppies and kittens are separated from their mothers and given other foods. Second, cat and dog are must be treated and given vitamins. Having dogs and cats would not be easy, especially in terms of treatment. Dogs and cats must be kept its cleanliness in order to avoid the disease. Owners must be diligent to bathing the pets 1-2 times a week, combing its fur, brushing its teeth and cutting its nails when already too long. As the owner also must pay attention to several things like shelter and nutrition (food, drinks, and vitamin), so that the pets always healthy. Third, cat and dog are must checkup to the veterinarian. Owners of pets must be diligently checked their beloved pet to the vet in order to be given the vaccine. The vaccine can protect pets from various diseases caused by viruses and bacteria. Regular visits to the vet can also help in getting information about pet health care. Fourth, if cat and dog out of the house, they both know the way home. Cats and dogs are sensitive pets of smell. They can find its owner and can know the scent of the other territory. When cat and dog plays out of the house, they both will know the way home

Nowadays, dishonesty phenomenon has become a social reality which take place transparent and occurred in different areas of human life, one of them in education. A phenomenon that occurs in the world of education today is precisely tarnish the ideals of future generation. The decline of honesty value in education from the smallest thing which called cheating. According Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, "cheating means act dishonestly or unfairly in order to win an advantage or profit (Anonymous, 1990: 191). Cheating has become one of the most concern behaviors at school all over the world, because it cause of the failure to achieve the goal of true education. It is become the first dishonesty learning in educational process that will have impact on the mental formation of students. Students tend to cheat because there are a lot of encouragement that affect them. There are two factors that causes of cheating on students, such as internal and external pressures. Almost everybody in the world has cheated in some kind of way. Students tend to cheat because the pressure of internal factors. The desire to obtain good grades become a major internal trigger of cheating on students. The act of cheat is increasing because of the biggest fear of students today is failure and there is an emphasis on high value orientation. In Indonesian education, failure measured on value results that obtained. If the student can't fulfil the standard value, it is considered failed. It is become a great problem when the orientation only focused on values, not on the knowledge that obtained and how the future generations develop it. Ironically, we never realize that education priority nowadays prefer depend on grades rather than knowledge. In fact, the students currently highly motivated by grades, so they tend to pursue good grades, not to get more knowledge. It is cause students more lazy, lack of effort to study, and unsure of their ability. The younger generation of today is being hit by the erosion of ethics that requires only good grades to be accepted at schools of quality and can save the reputation of itself, so that to achieve that goal the student have many kinds of way to do, include cheating. Another causes of cheating on students is external pressure. Family, school, friends and the development of the times strongly influence the behavior patterns of students today. First, the family environment, parents usually put pressure on their children to excel and succeed. It becomes a burden for students as encouragement or hope to achievement, and desire to get rank much larger than aware of its potential. It is causing students easily discouraged, bored, stress and eventually select a shortcut to cheat. Second, when the teacher at school can not explain the

Greasy Lake (By T. Coraghessan Boyle) How setting influence the plot and the character? What the relationship? The story starts with the exposition which told that Greasy Lake happened in America after 50' which at that time the condition has suffered an economic crisis, Vietnam War, the advanced education for male, and the using of Chevy. This setting can be shown from the story that talked about Bruce Springsteen who actually the most famous figures in American popular music. When his era, America is a culturally obsessed with its cars. The automobile becomes a symbol that grew increasingly at that time. It also described the focuses on the characters that three nineteen-year-old men who had passed their college, dressed like bad people with a leather jacket, toothpicks in their mouth and sniffed glue and either what somebody claimed was cocaine, and also driving the narrator's family wagon. At night, they went to Greasy Lake where on the banks of festering murk, drink beer, smoke marijuana, listen to rock and roll, and howl at the moon. This condition also support to the character to be 'bad' characters. Rising Action comes in early June at 02:00 a.m. in the parking lot when the bars and the club were closing. The situation affects the characters to do the negative things such as fighting and raped the girl. When they found a metallic blue car parked that they supposed it was their friend who did sex with his girlfriend in, so they tried to annoy them by shocking and lightening the car. But they were wrong, that car belonged to the " greasy character " , Tony Lovett, and it was too late to realize that. Tony Lovett went out from the car and then, they are fighting each other. The narrator hit Tony with a tire iron that he put in his mother's car so that the greasy character felt down. They thought that Tony was dead. After that, they attempted to rape the girlfriend. The Climax of the story happen when the character and his friends run off into the woods and the lake. In the lake, also there is a dead body floating so it makes the weather become so gloomy, dark, and scary. This situation affects the character's point of view about being " bad " , he realizes that he should ended his new journey and back to home. Falling Action had been marked when the sunlight comes they come out from the woods, back to the parking lot and finds the key. It was represented that the setting time when the sunlight brings enlighten to the character to be mature and wise to decide something. Resolution also happened in the parking lot, when they want to leave that place, but suddenly there are two women who drunk emerged from the Mustang that approached them to looking for the guy Al (the dead man) who owns the motorcycle. The narrator pretends not to know about Al and he lies to the women that they haven't seen anybody. In that moment, the women try to tempt the narrator and his friend by showing her hand which full of pills and offers the party with her and her friends, but he rejected the offer immediately then drove the car back to home. This situation represents that the narrator's character has been developed better and ended his thought about being " bad ".
