The scope of this study was to review the literature on the methods used to assess the completeness of the data in health information systems. Searches were conducted in the Medline, SciELO and Lilacs databases using the key words "quality," "data quality," "quality of information" and "information systems." It included articles, dissertations and theses that assessed the fulfillment of variables. In the 19 studies reviewed, the epidemiological rationality systems were the most evaluated (90.5%). Studies on completeness are still scarce (one per year on average). Methods vary from isolated analysis to the evaluation of more than one dimension of quality. The term completeness is the word most used to characterize the fulfillment of variables. The Romero and Cunha score is the most frequent. The SIS databases and Datasus site were the sources and means of access to the most common data. Studies with data from the Southeast of Brazil were predom...

Recent studies describe the participation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in hypertension. To identify the redox imbalance in the blood of hypertensive. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione (GSH), vitamin C, transferrin, ceruloplasmin, malondialdehyde (MDA) and carbonyl group were quantified in the blood of 20 hypertensives and 21 controls. The individuals had a Body Mass Index of ≥ 18.5 and ≤ 30 kg/m(2), glycemia ≤ 100 mg/dL, serum cholesterol ≤ 200 mg/dL, and were nonsmokers, non-pregnant and non-lactating women, non-users of alopurinol and probucol, with hypertensives on antihypertensive medication. All individuals underwent a preparatory period of 4 weeks without alcohol, vitamin supplements, dexamethasone and paracetamol. Reduced levels of CAT (p 0.013), GSH (p 0.003) and MDA (p 0.014), and high levels of GPx (p 0.001) and ceruloplasmin (p 0.015) were obtained in the hypertensive group compared with controls. A positive c...

Systemic Arterial Hypertension (HAS) is a condition charac- terized by endothelial dysfunction, which main role consists on stopping the vase-relaxation caused by the decreased bioactivity of the nitric oxide (NO•) in the vascular wall, due, equally, to the oxidative stress, which represents the oxidative hypothesis of hypertension. Conceptually, the oxidative stress results in an unbalance between the antioxidant and pro-oxidant
