This interview discusses the portrayal of women in Indonesian media and advertising, and how social stereotypes of gender roles affect the way women see themselves and interact with society. Overview For this episode of Sub Rosa, Kate interviewed Firly Annisa, an activist and lecturer in Media and Communication at Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Firly is also involved with the NGO Rumah Sinema (Cinema House) where she promotes media literacy amongst young people. We spoke about issues around the portrayal of women in Indonesian media and advertising, and how social stereotypes of gender roles affect the way women see themselves and interact with society. This paper addresses issues the global concern of uncertainties of digital creative workers, emphasizing Indonesian case. This paper argues creative digital workers in digital media industry deal with uncertainty in "atypical," "contingent," "temporary," "informal," and, in particular, "precarious" settings. This research will provide arguments about new forms of labour exploitation in the era of “user-generated content” and “prosumption”. This paper's primary theoretical contribution is to clarify the precarious nature of labor for digital labor in communication and media organizations, with a focus on creative workers in Yogyakarta and Jakarta. Additionally, this study will demonstrate how staff members in various communication and media companies routinely work under deadline pressure, work remotely, have short-term contracts, and participate in hustle cult practices. This article explore the role of YouTube in developing local film culture. The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted various local short film festivals and screenings. Local filmmakers are trying to find alternative channels to show their short films via YouTube. Using the media industries studies perspective, this research offers two cases, Tilik and Loz Jogjakartoz, to study the role of YouTube for local film the promotion and distribution. Based on in-depth interviews, Ravacana Films and Kebon Ijo Studio implement specific strategies such as film upload timing, social media promotion and audience attention management so that their films trend on YouTube. This research reveals that YouTube can play an important role in connecting local filmmakers with audiences and the national film industry.

This study examines Joko Widodo's rhetoric on Instagram during the pandemic. This study is significant for several reasons; social media has become an indispensable channel for political leaders to communicate with their constituents, particularly during crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic. By analyzing the language, tone, and themes of President Widodo's Instagram posts from January to December 2021, researchers can gain insight into his communication strategy and the extent to which it may have influenced public opinion and behavior. In addition, by analyzing President Widodo's Instagram posts, we can better understand populism's role in political communication during the pandemic. Populist rhetoric frequently makes emotional appeals and aims to create a sense of "us versus them," which can effectively mobilize support but can also lead to polarization and division. President Jokowi consciously refrained from portraying himself as a hero or savior, contrary to what is commonly observed in the communication patterns of some leaders during crises. Instead, Jokowi emphasized the importance of unity, community cohesion, and adherence to public health regulations. By doing so, President Jokowi intended to cultivate a sense of shared responsibility and encourage individuals to participate in the fight against the pandemic.

This paper addresses issues the global concern of uncertainties of digital creative workers, emphasizing Indonesian case. This paper argues creative digital workers in digital media industry deal with uncertainty in "atypical," "contingent," "temporary," "informal," and, in particular, "precarious" settings. This research will provide arguments about new forms of labour exploitation in the era of "user-generated content" and "prosumption". This paper's primary theoretical contribution is to clarify the precarious nature of labor for digital labor in communication and media organizations, with a focus on creative workers in Yogyakarta and Jakarta. Additionally, this study will demonstrate how staff members in various communication and media companies routinely work under deadline pressure, work remotely, have short-term contracts, and participate in hustle cult practices. This study used qualitative and in-depth interview studies to look ten people at the lives of digital content officers in a social media specialist (as new media professionals) who produce digital content in social media, managing content for influencers, internet celebrities, and corporations. This research took place between January and June 2022, and it raised fundamental concerns regarding how these industries develop the rhetoric of flexibility, autonomy, and informality.

The Democratic System of Pancasila that has been chosen by Indonesian founders give several consequences. The state needs to be responsible for regulating equality policies for every citizen. Not only about the issue of equitable economic resources but also equal access to information. In the context of the country, democracy and markets equal access to information can be understood as information technology paradigm. This paradigm means that all systems that use by technology information are defined by networking sense, which is an empowering citizen to influence a wide variety of processes. Dalam penulisannya, artikel ini menggunakan kacamata aktivis gerakan kampanye Japelidi lawan COVID-19, khususnya para administrator yang bekerja di balik aktivitas daring media sosial Twitter dan Instagram Japelidi, yaitu menggunakan pendekatan pengalaman langsung dalam mendistribusikan pesan, menangggapi para sukarelawan dalam interaksi di ruang siber (cyber space), dan melakukan kerja-kerja kolaborasi. Abstrak Publik Islam yang pada rezim sebelumnya dikontrol dalam ruang keagamaan formal agar mudah dikendalikan oleh negara, pada era Reformasi mulai menyebar pada kepemimpinan organisasi masyarakat dan politik praktis. Hadirnya berbagai partai politik yang menggunakan Islam sebagai basis dan simbol politik menjadi petanda " kebangkitan " Islam dalam ruang demokrasi. Apabila dihubungkan dengan tumbuhnya media sosial dan jaringan internet di Indonesia, micro celebrities menjadi komponen penting menghadirkan identitas Islam dalam budaya populer. Dengan menarik pengikut di media sosial Instagram, para micro-celebrities Muslim, dapat berpotensi membentuk "Publik Islam" mereka sendiri. Dengan mengelola wacana kesalehan melalui performativitas tubuh yang di unggah secara terus menerus di media sosial, publik Islam dapat terbentuk dengan berbagai tujuan seperti menggaet popularitas yang berujung pada keuntungan ekonomi dan popularitas. Seiring menguatnya wacana ke-Islaman setelah peristiwa aksi Bela Islam 411 dan 212, menghasilkan gerakan Islam yang terlihat puritan disatu sisi dan sekaligus populer di sisi yang lainnya. Identitas Muslim secara visual semakin terlihat nyata termediasi dalam dunia maya yang seakan turut menjadi penentu kesalehan. Seperti penyebutan jilbab syar’i, cadar, surban, pakaian gamis ala Jazirah Arab sampai jenggot panjang turut mewarnai identitas yang “dipilih” umat Muslim di Indonesia. Tidak terkecuali di kalangan anak muda. Kampanye pilihan-pilihan gaya hidup ala Nabi seperti Gerakan Nikah Muda, semakin didengungkan sebagai gerakan Sunah yang anti maksiat, jalan indah ke surga, hingga perlindungan terhadap kaum perempuan dari fitnah dan zina. Media sosial turut menjadi media yang paling ramai mengampanyekan gerakan ini. Lahirlah tokoh-tokoh selebritas Instagram yang menampilkan simbol-simbol laki-laki maskulin juga dominan mewarnai diskursus maskulinitas baru. Diantaranya berani melamar calon istri sesegera mungkin, pintar menghapal dan membaca al-Qur’an namun eksis di dunia Instagram adalah contoh tawaran maskulinitas “Islam” tersebut. Tulisan ini berupaya untuk memahami wacana mengenai kaum muda dan maskulinitas “Islam” baru yang diwacanakan melalui akun- akun populer seperti @gerakannikahmuda @muzammilhb dan @alvin_411.
