Mencari padanan kata dari bahasa sumber ke bahasa target menjadi tantangan tersendiri bagi seorang penerjemah dalam melakukan proses penerjemahan. Preprint-The target of teaching and learning a foreign language, like English, is customary to give the learners knowledge in using the target language for communication in an appropriate way. Because of that, it is not enough to teach the learners merely grammar skills, but they have to be provided with the cross-cultural competence in using the target language. Linguists believe that mastering high-level skills in grammar does not mean the learners have the equal pragmatic competence. Thus, the instruction concerning pragmatics is compulsory in term of rising a cross-cultural awareness. This paper discusses the intercultural pragmatics and its importance in second language acquisition. Mitra kegiatan adalah Kelompok Berkah Hijau Mandiri. Metode pelaksanaannya melalui (1) sosialisasi, (2) pendampingan administratif, dan (3) pendampingan praktik pengisian SRN PPI. It is well-known that a teacher's primary responsibility is as an educator and facilitator for his pupils. However, in order to become more professional, teachers also need to improve their academic qualifications and skills to keep up with changes in science and technology. In particular, they need to publish scientific articles that share the knowledge they use in the classroom. Therefore, the purpose of this community service project is to help the teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Tualang with their publication endeavors, including the crafting of articles based on the best practice of their class observations and the implementation of the open journal system (OJS) for their submission. The activity is conducted conceptually and practically to make a significant contribution by making it easier for participating teachers to carry out the process of creating best practice articles and submitting them autonomously.

Identity markers such as race, gender, class and ethnicity have important roles to choose language used. This paper explores the correspondence between language, identity and social status as exposed in a classic film entitled “Guess who’s coming to dinner tonight” released in 1967. The utterance of the characters in the movie will be analyzed in order to illustrate the vital role of language as a part of promoting the speaker's identity and social status. The study also emphasizes language choice, such as specific vocabulary, and share attitude when discussing a sensitive topic. As a finding, there are significant points that language use inevitably promotes the speakers' social identity due to their academic backgrounds and beliefs.

The purpose of this study was to determine the values contained in the Riau Malay Teaching Guide in relation to climate change mitigation policies. This study uses a qualitative method with an analytical approach to popular culture documents recorded by Tenas Effendy, Tunjuk Ajar Melayu (TAM) which has been designated as an intangible cultural heritage (WBTB) of Indonesia, with other main data sources observation and interviews with relevant sources. The development of mobile phones cannot be separated from aspects of human needs, not only as basic / psychological needs as humans but also other needs that arise such as the need to get an award from the social environment, and the need for self-actualization. This article reports an investigation of university students’ use of online Wikipedia site in writing their assignment or research report. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire and interview. First of all, a survey questionnaire was distributed among the learners (n=70) identifying their computer and internet literacy, frequency, strategy, and future orientation of using Wikipedia for their writing assignments or essays. Then, interviews with some lecturers (N=8) revealed teachers’ lack of awareness and agreement of Wikipedia in academic writing, partially due to the absence of Departmental policy. As the results, despite being already informed of the encyclopedia’s academic unreliability, Indonesian EFL informants in this study were proven to be familiar with computer and capable of using internet and incorporating Wikipedia materials when writing their essays at Andalas University. Humans have developed science to understand the phenomena they face in their lives. As such, the development of science is inexorably linked with epistemology because it emphasizes the question of truth—the focus of epistemology. The development of science and knowledge has been influenced by specific interests, motives, needs, and historic/cultural backgrounds. To ensure that science is developed in a manner best suited for Indonesian society, such development must be rooted in extant Indonesian cultural values, such as those found in Javanese culture. This study attempts to formulate Javanese epistemology as a basis for scientific development in Indonesia. It finds, first, that knowledge is known as “kawruh” among the Javanese people; second, knowledge is not always limited to the cognitive dimension; and third, a specific criterion for truth is harmony, or “pener”. This present study probes and reveals the student's motives in their online interactive communication which can be considered as a cyberbullying act. The data is collected from 157 blog archives and interview sessions with 12 selected students. These students were selected purposively from Universitas Lancang Kuning, Indonesia, due to their high frequency of producing comments in their blogs which are cyberbullying in nature. From a total of 6,259 comments, this study focused on 255 that indicates online aggression. Data analysis reveals in detail three most common motives of cyberbullying among university students in their online interactive communication, i.e., just for fun (79%), to fight back (9%), and to express upsetting feelings (5%). Thus, this study's findings are different from past and present studies about cyberbullying, which sees cyberbullying fully as a threat as a common point.
