Perspective helps the observer to focus his gaze on a virtual space, but it may also happen that he himself becomes an object of observation for the characters in the painting.
The vault of the Autumn Room in Palazzo Brignole Rosso in Genoa was realised between 1687 and 1689 by Domenico Piola, Sebastiano Monchi and Giacomo Maria Muttone.
Two surveys were conducted by integrating various measurement techniques in order to acquire the necessary information to read and study the actual architecture as well as the painted architecture.
With the results it was possible to study the interaction between the painted space and the real one which not only looks wider but also seems transformed into a theatrical scene in which real and painted architecture, golden stucco and the decor mirrors enable the participant to assume the double role of observer and actor in the representation.
